Von Neumann probes, self-replicating spacecraft, or Alien lurkers and alien artifacts all represent the idea that somewhere in our solar system there could be evidence of an alien civilization and that they may have been silently watching us from space for millions of years or longer.
Jonh Michael Godier spoke to Dr. James Benford about his paper 'Looking for Lurkers: Co-orbiters as SETI Observables', as well as other solutions to the fermi paradox that involves finding alien artifacts in our own solar system.
Looking for Lurkers: Co-orbiters as SETI Observables by Dr. James Benford: arxiv.org/pdf/1903.09582.pdf

I would focus instead on devices hidden in trans-neptunian objects. Directed burst or masar transmissions from a module designed to incinerate itself. One drone seeder in the oort cloud come make automated periodic probes seem very natural and easy to dispose of or hide.

Myself and my brother saw a UFO hover above our house when we were about 14 years old. Don't know who was inside, could be aliens or humans from the future or could be a drone, maybe a glimpse into the future of a family vehicle. But it was a two layer saucer with lights going around it, like lights on a fairground ride. It hovered above for what seemed like about 10 minutes totally silent and no one else saw it during the day above are house in the city. Was the strangest thing one would see or believe but I think we saw something very advanced not from this planet.

@@venataciamoon2789 I got a photo of some type of craft in the sky, there was actually 3 in a triangle formation and they looked orange in the distance. The spacing was perfect between them, but it was not one craft. Took a picture and it wasn't orange at all, it had some orange but also green and yellow and red, all swirling kinda like a magic orb of sorts. Well about 2 years prior I was with friends and we seen what we called a beach ball because it was all rainbow shoot down from the sky like straight down, didn't turn or anything, down. This was about 250 metres from us behind a few properties, and mind you I live in the middle of a city, it was a large ball of what seemed to be swirling light of all the same colours from the picture. So we had seen whatever this thing was, shooting down at a million miles an hour, came out of absolutely nowhere and dropped it speed almost to a complete stop as it came down, it looked like fuckin magic and 2 years odd after this happened I photographed one, the footage of them in the sky is even on RU-vid but they didn't move much, hence why I could snap a shot (2012 new year's eve UFOs Melbourne) People say I'm crazy so I don't speak about it.

Getting PHD physicists to contemplate these profound concepts has to be the most interesting thing on YT. There are a lot of channels that get into the theoretical weeds but they're generally confined within the parameters of "proper" academic questions. It is so f'ing cool to hear these brilliant scientists talk about the Fermi paradox in a scientifically rigorous manner. I look forward to these videos every week.

emf 1200 Guys they are playing both sides against each other to create duality... trump doesn’t know what’s happening. He’s not the enemy you think, please listen. It has been public knowledge since 2015, that the Coronavirus was man made. The 2016 elections blinded everyone perfectly. This seems like a straightforward case of corruption but it is MUCH more than that. You see it is also now public knowledge that conciousness is a singularity. That means the universe only has 1 mind. That means that every single person, life form and even the planets themselves are “you”. We have all been the same person throughout our history. There is no death, we live infinitely as each other’s lives.... The “aliens”👽know this and “humanity”(majority) does not. What we call “humanoid” is actually a geometric structure that ALL life eventually becomes. The “problem” with us is EGO. Every person we don’t like is a version of ourselves that has given in to their ego. This has resulted in a covert human cult that wants to be satan(yes they take it very seriously). This egotistical cult has been able too infiltrate the highest forms of government (trump isn’t in the club). They want a space war. The process of learning this information is when a species evolves from the 3rd dimensional mind to the 4th and 5th... Jesus, buddah, and other religious icons were among the first to figure this out. We can beat this cult though. Since we are all the same person we can tune our conciousness to affect all our other selves. We need 80 million(1%) of the planet to wake up to in order to match the 1% at the top. Once this situation is resolved ALL war will end. Earth will become a type 1 civilisation and the aliens 👽 👍 will be free to be public. By then however they won’t be seen as alien, they will simply be “us”. Also there is no privacy. Your thoughts are actually a broadcast. They know every thought you have ever had and know everything happening on this planet in REAL time. USA, Russia and China are all best friends. ALL media is an illusion.

@JustinLHopkins
@JustinLHopkins 4 года назад
S C We do have data. Us. We know that intelligent life arose at least once because we’re here. We can make certain assumptions based on that alone. What are the chances that life arose just once in a universe where finding earth-like exoplanets has become relatively routine? Probably zero. When looking at the Hubble Deep Field image, the thought of being alone becomes incomprehensible.

It never ceases to amaze me how even the most intelligent scientists continually talk about possibilities in terms of technology we as humans have discovered as of today. For example we talk about how long it would take for aliens to get here in terms of many years and the limits this imposes. It’s like us now talking about how long it would take the Romans to get to the moon. Forget the catalogue of tech we have today, it’s irrelevant. We could be talking about a race of beings that have been developing technology for 100’s of thousands of years. Maybe even concepts in Physics that we are intellectually too limited to even understand.

Well the reason why they talk in terms of technology we have today, lol is because they are freaking scientists and not hacks, right? they aint fantasy writers, so there is no point in what they "think" might be a technology of the future, when NOBODY knows, so they would just be speculatihng. Thats the job of science fiction writers, NOT scientists, so stop being so AMAZED, its not that amazing, and just normal.
@neilruedlinger4851
@neilruedlinger4851 4 года назад
Scientists (and Engineers such as myself) do talk in terms of technology that we currently have because that's the only reliable technology that we know of, essentially it works very well. There is no point in speculating about technology that extra-terrestrials may have, who may be hundreds of thousands of years more advanced than us because we may not be able to even detect their presence in our Solar System; thus such advanced beings may be beyond our ability to make First Contact with. The best we can do, is try to extrapolate from our known technology and imagine what more advanced beings may be able to do. As soon as we do that, we enter the realm of Science Fiction. For examples of science fiction written by scientists, I would recommend books by Isaac Asimov (I Robot, Foundation series) and Carl Sagan (Contact). In some occasions, science fiction does inspire Scientists and Engineers to develop advanced technologies; for example the inventor of the cellular telephone credits Star Treks' personal communicator for inspiration (although the overall concept of the cellular telephone network was patented during the 1940's to the 1950's sometime, one may argue that the original Star Trek producer may have learned of the patent or the idea behind the patent, inspiring the communicator), there are Engineering research groups trying to build portable remote sensors inspired by Star Trek's tricorder idea, there are also Biomedical Engineering research groups inspired by Star Treks' medical tricorder trying to build portable medical diagnostic equipment, even Warp Drive has been discovered to be theoretically possible by Dr. Miguel Alcubierre, a Mexican theoretical physicist who used Einstein's General Relativity equations to find a solution for the 1D (one dimensional case). Dr Alcubierre's work has been taken further by other theoretical physicists, in an attempt to discover a theoretical/mathematical solution that eliminates the need for exotic matter (i.e. particles with negative mass), which plagues Dr Alcubierre's theoretical model. Once a practical theoretical model is developed, future Engineers may find new techniques to build a working interstellar warp drive. For a comparison, Quantum Mechanics' theory was more or less finalized approximately 66 years after James Clerk Maxwell published his classical theory of electromagnetism in 1861, by around 1926 to 1928, and the first transistor was developed approximately 20 years later in 1947, and the first microprocessor approximately 44 years later (since QM was developed) in 1971.

When I was 11 years old at our family home in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the early afternoon of 1950 something occurred that I will never forget. This insident happend after a Sunday dinner (dinner time was at noon in those days) myself, an older sister 16 at the time, and my uncle a 2nd world war veteran medic who had seen action all over Europe, stepped out unto our large front porch and stood at the top of the wide set of steps. It was a beautiful mid summer day. My uncle directed our gaze up at the cloudless cobalt blue sky and expressed amazement at the perfection of the expanse. At that incredible moment something happened that has forever seared into my memory. A flying disk slowly traversed the sky without the slightest sound so low I felt I could reach up and touch it. It was absolutely immense. I can still see the outline of gleaming coffer-like demarcations underneath the shining craft. My uncle audibly gasped and hoarsely uttered, "A circular aeroplane?" Then expressed his amazement with an expletive I had never heard an adult utter. He obviously had not heard the term flying saucers. But my sister had. "That's not an aeroplane, uncle Oliver, that's a flying saucer." she exclaimed. "I'm going in to call CJOB," she shouted and ran into the house. She, however, never got through to the popular radio station as we were to learn later that hundreds had tried to call that day. The obvious advanced technology that was employed to keep that impossibly huge craft seemingly effortlessly move over the city was literally out of this world and would be so even today. This occurred during the summer holidays of July 1950. Over the years I have always believed, without a shadow of doubt, that alien beings have been present on earth for possibly millennia. It is with frustration, born out of a certain interior awareness, a knowledge so intellectually interwoven in my being that we have been continually observed by this alien presents. I say frustration because it is what I have always felt hearing and reading speculations of possibilities of alien life elsewhere in the universe. I am now in my 80s and feel thankful that I have been one of the lucky ones to have known the truth.

Absolutely. The myth of Atlantis isn't just a myth. The fact that every ancient religion speaks about a great flood that wiped out (most of) mankind can't be a coincidence. The fact that the oldest known civilizations speak of other "sages" who gave them knowledge can't be a coincidence either. Couple that with the anomalies regarding ancient megalithical constructions and the conclusions became quite apparent.

I'm old enough to remember the bit of a 'thing' that was made over the plaques that were shot off as part of the 'Pioneer' probes, and later the discs that were pert of the 'Voyager' probes. They piqued my imagination, and made me try to figure out how to make something more 'findable' since everybody seemed to agree that the odds of any of them being found were *at least* 100s of billions to one against it happening, and I didn't like those odds - *at all!* Since then, I've realized that what I was doing was attempting to make a highly observ- able form of a 'buoy'. I ended up with a sphere that had 20 'corner-reflectors' built into it, spaced over it's surface dodecahedronally. The entire surface (other than the interiors of the corner-reflectors) would be 'reflectivized' in the same manner as road-side signs are, except that the small glass beads (that are the 'key ingredient' in making the surface reflective from virtually any angle) would have a slightly broader spread of diameters than would be typical; the idea being to achieve the same refl- ective properties over a slightly larger portion of the E-M spectrum. The entire surface would be finished with an amorphous-diamond coating to preserve the surface in it's original condition as long as possible. The size of the sphere would be primarily deter- mined by the size of the reflective corners built into it; the larger the corners, the longer the wavelength for which they would be suitable. I eventually realized that if the corner- reflectors were multiple meters on a side you could end up with a sphere that was 10s of meters in diameter - large enough to have enough interior room for a sort of 'museum' with displays, for passive viewing and possibly even interactive viewing! Ever since then, I've been expecting to see some S-F author use something similar in a story, but ... *nothing!* I always figured I probably wasn't the *only* person out there who'd worked out something like this - but maybe I was.

Rogue Moon by Algis Budrys also stands out in my memory. Xenoarcheology's actually a common trope in science fiction - some on Earth (Stargate, At the Mountains of Madness), some on alien worlds (Allastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series and [edit] Jack McDevitt's books), but it's not uncommon to have artifacts discovered somewhere in the solar system (Grant Callin's Saturnalia, Kim Stanley Robinson Icehenge, the movie Total Recall, and the game Mass Effect, for example).
@cf453
@cf453 4 года назад
As many times as I've read and loved Rogue Moon, I've yet to figure out what it's truly about. Are the aliens who created it as perverse, cruel, ruthless, and arbitrary as the human characters appear to be? Is it just a plot device to show the protagonist there are more important things in life? I much prefer Scanners Live in Vain--The universe may be cruel and humans may be crappy, but there is hope.

Since it's undeniably known that the moon has played such an integral part in the evolution of intelligent life on Earth over the millenium, it seems that we need to be looking for Earth like planets or super-Earth planets that are actually axially stabilized in their orbits about their stars, by a large moon, such as Luna does for the Earth. It's also been said regarding the moon that it's physical structure and it's physical role in the Earth/Moon/Sun relationship is literally "a mega-series of flabbergastinly beneficial serendipitous coincidences" So If you really believe LUNA is a coincidence, you can't see the elephant in the room.

This was quite interesting, and Dr. Benford seems quite open minded for a mainstream scientist. Of course he was very cautious on certain topics, UFOs specifically, even after the government openly admitted to their existence (be they alien or otherwise) only a few days ago, but truth be told, he really exceed my expectations considering the usual attitude of the academic researcher. I found the idea of Pulsar' artificiality the most intriguing and something that would greatly benefit from a serious investigation.

Two of my mothers friends from high school SWEAR that they saw a UFO in North Allegheny, Pennsylvania in 1979. Neither of them are the type of people who would lie and neither ever brought it to news attention. Both describe the exact same thing. A "kinder egg" shaped solid metallic object that hovered over a hill across from them and then shot off to the west at an incredible rate of speed that the husband (an Air Force pilot) estimated at over mach 5. The encounter lasted only about 30 seconds and there was no noise. In fact both of them said it was oddly quiet. Their stories have not changed one bit in over 40 years.

I was outside and felt like someone was watching me, as I looked up I saw something for a split second before it left at a speed greater than my eyes could keep up with. It moved to the left for a few feet and then to right and away a lot faster than I've ever seen anything move. Anything I know if would have been dead from those maneuvers. I want to say it looked kind of like a humming bird maybe, that general shape anyway, but it was different and had no wings. And it was made out of a material that my eyes had trouble focusing on and I couldn't get depth perception on it so I couldn't really say how far away it was, it was so strange. I'll never forget it.
