Are Watchtower's New Changes Driving JWs to Drink?

Just June Here. Today I wanted to go a little deeper into drinking, addiction, and Jehovah's Witnesses. With the recent changes to organizational policy adding frustration and pressure to some in and some who have left the JWs, some have turned to unhealthy ways to cope. There are healthier means, though, to dealing with these pressures.
Unlike what is being offered by the Governing Body for addiction support and recovery, the World actually offers helpful and scientifically proven methods to treat and overcome addiction.
Do you need help with addiction right now? Here are some groups that can help regardless of what you believe or don't believe.
smartrecovery.org/ - SMART Recovery is the leading, evidence-informed approach to overcoming addictive behaviors and leading a balanced life. SMART is stigma-free and emphasizes self-empowerment.
www.aa.org/ - 12 step recovery program with an emphasis on a Higher Power.
na.org/ - 12 step recovery program with an emphasis on a Higher Power.
www.worldwidesecularmeetings.... - 12 step recovery program with an emphasis on a Higher Power, geared toward agnostics and atheists.
thesatanictemple.com/pages/so... - The Satanic Temple Sober Faction provides peer support recovery for addiction free from the pseudoscience and superstitious dogma entrenched in most mainstream programs.
Though I am not an addiction treatment professional, if you need someone to talk to, I can be reached via email at justjune1973@gmail.com
As always, be yourself, and be well.

I had the same thought about all of the children who were disfellowshipped in the past who would most likely not have been under this new policy. But don't forget all of the young people, like my son, who was baptized at 15 and disfellowshipped at 19 in the year 2000. It was peer pressure and the desire to fit into the only social group he had ever known that motivated him to get baptized. He lost all of his witness friends and most of his family, including his brother who still shuns him. I never shunned him, even though I was a PIMI until last year when I left the JW's. If the JW's were sincere in protecting the children they claim to love, they would at the very least, strongly advise against anyone under 18 getting baptized. But as we know, the only growth they get is from born in people and getting them baptized as children is a way of locking them into the org.

I definitely struggled with drinking over the summer during my initial deconstruction days. I cried all of the time, blacked out from drinking literally every evening, ate myself into oblivion, gained 50 lbs and couldn’t get out of bed. It’s a, pardon the expression, miracle I didn’t lose my job. My only saving grace was working from home and my employer not strictly enforcing coming into the office at the time. I can definitely see how these changes will cause many to turn to alcohol, and other addictive substances, for temporary comfort. As for me, not hearing a word from anyone of my so called friends or the “loving” elder body, while hearing about others being bombarded with conditional love, has been a trigger I am struggling with. In conclusion, I disrespectfully say, f*ck this cult and the 9 arseholes who control it.

Thank you June for this video. How I wish things like this had been available when back in the 50’s when my grandfather begged for help he was told to just read his Bible more and pray and not to join any groups Like AA maybe he wouldn’t have committed suicide. And maybe a very dear friend of mine wouldn’t have died from serious alcohol abuse and liver failure if she had gotten the help and support she needed. I hold the organization responsible for sooo much grief and loss of life. Thank you again for your courage and support for those in need ❤️❤️

The Watchtower treadmill is deadly. Me and my sister grew up in it. She began drinking at 16 and died from it at the age of 44. She literally drank until her organs shut down one at a time. She was the most miserable and unhappy person I ever knew because of being constantly beat down spiritually. I left the cult 10 years ago and I will never go back. Your channel came up in my feed today. Glad it did. Just reading theu a few notes, heartbroken, this clicked immediatly with the vast majority of my neighbors. I live in a rural " hamlet" of give or take 1880 people. The amount overall of older people ages 50 thru..only 75 that have liver issues, think it's ok to drink a bottle of wine with meals within ave of 3 days is wild. I asked about oh n! Cancer! Thinking ok this is a industrial area, many older people grew up in the cial & gas industry. Then I found out not sas this group barely works. They think mowing grass, washing windows & other seasonal work. Is ok. Laçk of self respect, self respect , relience is non exsistsnt. Yet the disease of those who work in heavy chemical jobs ..now I think possibly.. could be the drinking. Becàuse medically it is enough to call it a cluster. Scary & sad.

I left WT in the early 90's. Therefore, my observation could be out-of-date. However, I associated with JW's for 7 years. The only fun we could have was drinking and eating. Movies, books, and music had some prohibitions. Drinking and eating did not. So my view is that is why many JW's become alcoholics either in or out of the org. And that is why many JW's are obese and out of shape. Now, a funny story: I am a social drinker, which means I will have a drink or two (and no more) when I am out to dinner or at a pub with friends. I don't drink at home by myself. For me, drinking alone at home is a sign of alcoholism. Right before we entered COVID shutdown in March of 2020, I was given a case of red wine. Finally, I got rid of all the bottles by the summer of 2023 by taking a bottle here and there to have dinner with friends. I do have alcohol in my closet, and I look at them every day. I don't have the desire to drink them by myself. I can conquer my weakness and control myself. Not drinking a lot when out with friends saves me money, too. If not for health reasons, there are financial reasons not to drink or not drink so much.
@JustDeannaJune

You are so very correct about the fact that eating and drinking are the few things JWs are ALLOWED to do and therefore often a huge problem among the witnesses! Alcohol abuse has been a big problem among JWs for many years. It was out of control in my congregation when I left 12 years ago. JWs are self-medicating in order to cope with living a life that is not their own. They are depressed, stressed, unhappy, and over-worked, as they strive to please an unpleasable high-control religion whose working mindset is "What have you done for me today?" Watchtower demands that JWs forgo their hopes and dreams in this life for the next life- a life many JWs are probably beginning to realize is a pipe dream. "Soon" (as in Armageddon) really means never, the carrot on a stick that keeps JWs on the treadmill of WT monotony and accomplish-nothing busy work.

I like the J dubs. They don’t water down the Bible to keep people coming so they can get more money. People say their leaders governing body has control… they have no control we all have free will. Sadly I find a common theme on these videos. They are from people who don’t want to live a certain lifestyle. I get it living by Bible principals can be difficult so it’s not for everyone. I am just amazed why people think they need to post a video explaining why the left. Do those same people post about how they don’t get picked in a pick up game or maybe they got fired from work and complain about that. It’s pretty easy if you are not happy just take your ball and go home. No need to spread hate, oh Maybe that’s why those people left.

So if you are a JW, as I suspect you are... if I got your c.o.b.e.'s name and number and called him and let him know what you're watching on RU-vid, how do you think that would go for you? Do you think being brought to a back room being questioned for using your 'free will' to look at apostate videos might happen? Because... you know, the governing body has 'no control' over that 'free will' of yours. You said ppl don't want to live a certain 'lifestyle'... yet, that lifestyle includes to 🎶 listen, obey and be blessed. Yet here you are on RU-vid checking out how those that leave live 🤔 not obeying the (non)controlling governing body. I'll still be here, if you decide you ever need to talk and not just write snarky remarks to make your nagging doubts and questions feel less overwhelming. 💗

We all struggle with ways to escape the reality of the world we live in. The only people I see that are able to break free are the people who have fully surrendered to Yashuah Jesus Christ. I am personally a work in progress and I hate myself when I fail, but I know Jesus is using my weaknesses and has a purpose. Because I know I can’t do it without him. Please be careful with yoga. There is a deception that comes with yoga and meditation without Jesus. Yes it’s ok to take care of your body and health, but don’t allow yourself to get infatuated too much with yourself. We are nothing without Yashuah!!

I feel we all have to find what works for us individually. Yoga and meditation work for me very well, and I practice both 5 days a week. I've read the Bible cover to cover 4 times after leaving the organization and it did not bring me any comfort or peace. But that doesn't mean it can't for others. That's also why I didn't promote that ppl should do what I do, but instead find what works for them and their life choices. That is exactly why I say to "Be yourself and be well" at the end of each video. The JW organization dictated who and what we HAD to believe. No one should tell anyone else who to believe in or how to live life, that's the beauty of being free from the JWs... We are free to be completely ourselves now. Thank you for your concern though, I truly appreciate your kindness. ☺️

@JustDeannaJune when you read the OT, did you find Jehovah/Yahweh to be an extremely vile angry God with major temper tantrums. He is the same God who the Hebrews/Israelites worshipped, yet Jesus rebuked them saying, they were from their father the devil, who was a liar and a murderer from the beginning. John 8:44. Yes Jehovah/Yahweh is the devil.

No, we as a family are faded. And because of my husband's father being a convicted pedophile and ppl actively looking for justice with cases regarding him, I highly doubt they will come after us to DF us anytime soon.
