Kendrick Perkins, Michael Wilbon, Adrian Wojnarowski and Stephen A. Smith join me on NBA Countdown to discuss if we're seeing a shift in the "Power Players" of the NBA.
LeBron, KD, and Steph have allowed us to enjoy the delusion that players may not age, and that they would be as good as the younger players. But the younger players have the advantage of being able to see what LeBron, KD, and Steph did, how they did it, and to follow their lead on the successful actions. Giannis saw how much LeBron benefitted from bulking up, comparing how he looked at 16 vs 26, and Giannis did the same. Embiid saw the power of the 3pt shot, even for the seven footer like KD, so he worked harder on his mid-range and 3pt shot compared to his post game. Jokić watched LeBron the point-forward succeed, and decided he could do even better as a point-center. And now players like Ant and SGA are taking athleticism to the next level.
I mean sports media can do a better job at talking about the younger players instead of just keep talking about the same Lakers, LeBron, Curry topics over and over and over again.
That's their bread and butter, I mean, the programming manager gave them a script, and they came out and made a show. I know the Lakers aren't a championship team. Last year, I was shocked they went that far. How do I know this? Their record. And I'm a fan of LeBron and the whole team, but the record you have indicates how good a team you are not if you have talent. And it's annoying af to hear them talk about 7,8th placed and play-ins team, lack of experience caused the young teams to fck up last year: teams like OKC, Minnesota, Sacramento Now, 2 of them have made the leap. The Nuggets are the best team, but surprisingly the games with the Lakers are closer than expected, even though both teams scoring are down, it's a little lost of explosiveness from both teams, but as the box suggests, Denver's bench is cooking LA, but Jamal is that jack in the box that is the difference. But don't be surprised if Minnesota takes them out. If OKC makes the final, Boston will beat them. Boston ain't beating Denver or Minnesota.
@melvinbarnett1910 Denver lack of depth will be a key factor against the Wolves. That could be the difference maker but experience will be big too for Nuggets. Let's see who comes out on top. It'll be a good series.
@@presidentialkingdom2201he can’t defend but at least have pride to go at ANT and he hasn’t even done that he let ANT come into this series and snatched whatever pride he had as his case as the “best SG” that’s gone now ANT took it
There's a shift in power teams. Lebron, KD, and Steph are still playing at the All Star level. They're in their mid to late 30s now, so the younger stars are emerging.
It's teams! Why can't they get through their heads? What we are watching is a shift on how make a successful team. Denver and Minnesota were actually build by the same person, OKC as well. Teams that were build and not just getting 2-3 all stars. Suns came sixth! While the above mentioned teams were fighting all year long about the top spot
Big Perk looking across the table at Stephen losing his mind on Ant thinkg what the hell have I been telling u all along. Kendrick knew. and us Wolves fans knew Perv knew.
it's money. they want to sell that this guy is the next superstar post lebron and curry. sports media got nothing substantial to offer except lebron vs MJ who the goat. so they need the next guy to do this stupid barbershop argument
Well for one Donavan Mitchell was not a 2 way player like ANT. 2, no Utah team no matter what seed they were ever made it to the conference finals or even showed potential that they could make it. I agree that when Mitchell knocked out Westbrook in the first round his first playoff i thought he would kinda be it but it didn’t turn out that way. Also this wolves team is way better than that Utah team
Anthony Edwards has the personality, the aura. Very similar to MJ and Kobe. He's also a 2 way player both defense and offense unlike Mitchell. Luka also is becoming a 2 way player with great defense this year + his offense. SGA and Wemby too. Any of these 5 (Antman, SGA, Wemby, Edwards, Luka) could carry their team to a championship .
Can we get some love and attention to how the Orlando Magic have blown out the Cav’s for the second straight game after going down 0-2 in the series to now tie it 2-2? Of course nobody wants to talk about that, but these boys are growing in front of our eyes into monsters.
LeBron is the only one I can still see significantly contributing to a championship winning team. His production rate is on par with some of these top new young stars.
absolutely the league should definitely pay better attention bro the rising stars rather than constantly glorifying those who will be moving on. yes they made their mark, legends, HOF but look at what's happening now in the playoffs... respect
It is too early to arrive at your judgement. Edwards and others have to prove it in the next playoffs. Other teams will most reconfigure to deal with them.
NBA fucks up with how they promote teams. They focus on drama more than the actual game. Instead of bringing in the new Stars to the casual audience they only promote a couple and that’s it. NBA will never catch the NFL in ratings because they can’t adapt to the times. They’ll pander to the same big market teams instead of pushing the sport itself forward
LeBron has AD (top 20 player) Durant has booker (top 20/25 player ) and part time beal. Give Steph a top 20 player and see if he's sitting home for the playoffs.
LA had a flawed roster without a 3rd star but with PHX i'm surprised no one thought they would be down 0-3 to a young Minnesota team especially when PHX has 3 stars. but their depth is a problem but yes there is a shift in power in the NBA young stars taken over and that's good.
Yea the same for loud, obnoxious, highly irritating sports commentators ijs 😏 Out with the loud and old in with the new and new and thought provoking 😊
But seriously, this is annoying and it happens not only in basketball, even tennis. Respect to the OGs (KD, steph, Lebron) but this is a young man's game, same with tennis. You cant play forever. So when i see topics like this or Mr Stephen A makes comment on lebron been traded, or pass the touch, I ask you guys, let the young ones step up, both off court and on court. No reason to compare this guys and talk about this topic as if its a hot topic.
The lakers have enjoyed the highest positive ft differential tgis season. The warriors have suffered the highest negative ft differential this season. Lebron is on the way out. The refs are f*cking steph.
@@kevinkarsnia109 bro, do you realise you just said "as a Timberwolves fan we deserve our 22 year old young superstar, with no rings, that until two days ago had never won a playoff series, to be so propped up, that he is now to be the face of modern era basketball, and directly compared... to the greatest basketball player in the history of the sport"... This idiocy is expected from ESPN, fans should be better
@@kevinkarsnia109 That is absolutely 100% not true. It does NOT have to be a choice between "This guy is Michael Jordan 2.0 and the face of modern basketball"... Or.... "this guy sucks". What they could do is tell the actual truth. And the truth is Ant is an absolutely incredible basketball player. Even tho the Suns suck, it's no joke that he just swept KD and Booker. He is playing elite basketball and had an amazing season and series. The league and the fans are lucky to have him... Having said that, Jokic is better. Luka is better. Giannis is better. Shai MIGHT be better, Tatum is debatable but he may actually be better than Tatum.... And over all, saying this ringless 22year old that just made it out of the first round for the first time by sweeping a bad team
A changing of the guards. It’s a great look I got tired of seeing these guys honestly. But on the opposite side of the coin let’s see what these guys bring to the table down the line. The league always had great players how many will live up the limelight and become household names. That what we have to wait a see. Morant was that guy until he wasn’t. NBA 🏀 playoff are 🔥
Dear lebron fans…. there isn’t a player on the NBA’s Top 50 Greatest Players list who has lost 12 consecutive playoff games to the same team. Patrick Ewing’s 11 consecutive losses to the Chicago Bulls are one of the most notable such streaks, but no one in that group of top 50 players has reached 12 consecutive losses against a single opponent in the playoffs.
One thing ur failing to realize more than half of those “top 50 players” only played when the nba had 10-20 years of history lebron is playing with 40 years of nba history the game is better than ever in history by a million ur just a hater
Fam im not one of these delusional LeBron fans but you gotta be fair. Playoffs back in the day was “Best of 5 series” and now it’s “Best of 7 series”. They didn’t have the full switch until 2003. So I’m sure if it was best of 7 in the 90’s on Jordan alone a lot of these teams would have a very long losing streak 💯
