I'm seeing so many comments of people unclear on the riddle: the correct answer is "a hole". Jon edited it to look incorrect, as a joke. I'm completely certain of this because I watched the show when it originally aired. I was a tough-as-nails kid with slicked back hair and a leather jacket and I'd regularly play Crossfire and banish my opponents to a fiery alternate dimension.

I spent several years being stupid enough to think the episode really ended with them driving off the cliff, even though it plainly shows that they're about to hit a tree before JanTran plays that clip. I never understood why the kids still die even though they got the right answer. Then I realized a year or two ago on my yearly rewatch and felt like an idiot.

I'm YEARS late with this comment. But I am so happy that Jon mentioned the "Tale of The Dead Man's Float". That episode scarred me as a kid. I was terrified of any pools and if I was in one, I would always glance at the drains to see if any pink mist was coming up. That episode is better than most horror movies imho

The Are You Afraid of the Dark episode that scared me the most when I was a kid was one where this kid got trapped in a mall overnight. He really wanted the "latest and greatest" water gun, which mimicked Super Soakers that were popular at the time. During the course of being locked in, the mannequins started chasing him around.

Haven’t watched this show as much as goosebumps. But my favorite episode will still always be “The Tale of the Bookish Babysitter” and mostly for one thing in it. That freaking ghost in the hallway. Forget the knight in the kid’s room and the babysitter turning into a witch. That ghost in the hall was legit creepy without a doughy and I love the way they edited his voice to actually sound like a ghost.

POST SCRIPT! ( from Wikipedia and some of our childhood memories lol) : The pilot episode "The Tale of the Twisted Claw" aired on Nickelodeon on October 25, 1991 as a Halloween special. The following year, the series premiered on Nickelodeon's SNICK on August 15, 1992 and YTV on September 2, 1992, and aired until February 3, 1996. And it was then in 92 that the "first episode" was the cab one. Episode 4 ended up being the same "twisted claw" story used for the pilot. And history was madE! Show your kids!
