Join us on our ongoing journey with an MR Triton GLS Deluxe. This video is good for an insight in to buying an MR Triton if you are in the market to get one, and also shows what you can do to them to set them up for the big lap around Australia like us.
We go in to detail to why we selected a dual cab, and better yet why we chose the triton. In this video we provide details of other utes we looked at, we provide a detailed look in to owning the triton so far with a perspective of the good, the bad, the ugly.
Tune in, grab something cold out of the fridge or get the jug on sit back and relax.

Nice review. I just sold a Colorado (only because Holden don't exist anymore) and decided to buy a Triton as I drove them for work a few years back and was impressed.(2X single cabs). Wife used to work for a local multi brand dealership so we went in to buy a base model Triton dual club. Drove out with a GSR 4x4 with lotsa extras for no extra $$$ (the extras, the baseline price was higher) as it was offered under runout deal pricing that couldn't be ignored relative to the base model price. Only put 200KM on it so far and just getting a feel for it. Steering hunts from centreline and the gearbox hunts a bit as well at times. Need to learn to drive it though as it has a smaller wheel base than competitors which has handling advantages - though also is the cause of the rear overhang debates. It's a truck. The Super Select is unparalleled and combined with diff centre locking makes this ( I believe) a unique vehicle . Anyway just saying I enjoyed your review and am still working out if I'm leaving this thing stock or not.

@@johnobrien6869 that’s awesome, glad you’re enjoying the triton. The steering takes a while to get used to as it’s quite rugged, bumpy through the steering, the new model addresses this with an electronic rack over hydraulic, you’ll just adapt though. I feel that the paddles in the MR are the best thing for it as you can elect what gear it needs to be in, once you learn where the sweet spots are rev and gearbox wise, you’ll enjoy it more. They do actually handle very well for what they are and are the lightest in the segment. If you do mod it make sure they are very conservative mods, we have probably gone a bit far and are still chasing issues with the rear end parabolic leaf set up, but hope to have them resolved in the next month. We will do an updated video eventually of how it’s all going.

Front parking sensors going off all the time is starndard. Received my Triton GLS durning covid in Victoria and couldn't get my ARB bullbar until a few months later. The parking sensors were troublesome from the start on the stock bar, i bet Mitsubishi know there is a problem but don't want to fix it. Apart from that, great ute and awesome off road.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 8 дней назад
@@lrzetec we finally cracked it with them, we removed the sensors out then re installed them and haven’t had an issue since, I think the fitters installed them on a bad angle causing them to malfunction. We only had about 1000kms on the car before the bar was installed so didn’t have it long enough for the sensors to play up on the oem bar.

Heya - awesome video! The wheel tyre combo is almost exactly what I'd been looking at for my GLS - had you fitted these before the lift and bullbar? If so any rubbing? Cheers :D

@yan_stewi_travels 2 месяца назад
Thanks so much, no scrubbing now we have lifted but when it was stock it was constantly rubbing against the front mud flaps haha, we have had them removed ever since. We also flex a bit on the rear and rub inside the inner Ali guard as we need extended bump stops at the rear.

The head units pre Covid were very good. During Covid they used cheaper and nasty chips and it made the head units troublesome. Cheers

Yeah absolutely, we had an paj sport previously and never had an issue with the headunit.

The intake hoses usually go. Only cold side after the intercooler. Best fixed with very tough Western Filters 4 ply rubber hoses (second best is silicon). Cheers

Great video on the Triton. I don't understand why this remains such an underrated vehicle despite being as reliable as a Hilux. Thanks for the detailed review, with love all the way from Namibia.

@jasonfields2793 agreed. In Australia though, even with high mileage (over 300,000 kilometres in some cases) Mitsubishi has replaced failed 2.5's with new motors. They have backed their product better than any other manufacturer I have seen.

TJM put a bar on my MR , they damaged front sensor's, and the car used to go into FCM and stop , (at the worst places like on comming traffic) TJM payed for new sensors whilst i had mitsubishi fot them. was fine after that... but i would get them checked as i nearly got T boned 3 times as car used to think a wall was in front due to damged sensors

Very lucky that you wasn’t hurt, a lot of this safety tech is more of a hinderance than anything. I pulled them out and have adjusted them instead of dealing with Ironman, haven’t had an issue for a month now.

Just the overhang of the rear axle to tow ball if youre towing a van causes swaying issues. Seen it too many times sitting behind them. Often too big of a van for dual cabs imo. I tow 2.8T van with a ford ranger. Anything more id want a bigger tow vehicle.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 3 месяца назад
Yeah interesting we are yet to tow, we have a caravan in the works so hopefully it’s not to bad, van will be around the 2t mark. 😮
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 3 месяца назад
Follow up question: have you done anything in your experience to limit the swaying, like a weight distribution hitch etc? 😊
@Mosesk1988
@Mosesk1988 3 месяца назад
@@yan_stewi_travels nah Weight dist hitches are a bandaid fix. Better off setting up the suspension for towing properly the first time and getting your towball mass and caravan blanced wieght wise correctly. When you get your van go tow at 100, if all good and has no sway. Id own a triton if i didnt tow imo.
@yan_stewi_travels
@yan_stewi_travels 3 месяца назад
@@Mosesk1988 yeah okay good advice, thanks. The rangers are definitely better for towing as just bigger and more engine power where you need it, we will make sure to have it all weighed, we will set it all up and reveal how it all tows in the caravan reveal in a couple months time 💪

I went with the Bi Turbo Ranger. The Bi has been flawless and is proving more reliable than the V6. Also the most powerful 4 cylinder 4x4 on the market.

@yan_stewi_travels 3 месяца назад
Yeah as we mentioned in the video the v6 was a jump in the unknown with reliability looks like it’s paying dividends atm with a few issues being reported, bi turbo 4 pot would be a good thing with the 10 speed, tbh we didn’t even consider them 🙄

The car is very capable and reliable for the price you paid . But dont over hang your canopy or over load stuff too far back from your rear wheels. Or else .

Yeah for sure we have everything inside the canopy over the rear wheels as much as possible, also we have made it all as lightweight as possible, check our canopy video if you have time best way to show what we mean 👌
