I think the emotion or habit of turning people into projects can be abstracted away a bit more into habitual behavior that you do when you lack direction. I tend to turn toward youtube, playing video games, and trying to hang out with friends as a distraction when I feel that I lack direction. Your suggestion of sitting in that uncomfortable uncertainty is really interesting to me because I saw a video of someone proposing to sit and stare at a wall for as long as possible until he cant take it anymore and during that time of purposeful boredom, he naturally gravitated towards thinking about projects or productive things he wants to do. In a way it is like daydreaming or fantasizing a bit about the work you need to get done and it seems similar to your suggestion of being aware of that lack of direction and distractions. Also I think you put into words very about how progress towards some slow moving personal goals can feels sometimes. I am a college student right now so I need to think about that job search and when I experience that uncertainty, I have a tendency to distract myself with things that I have a passion for and can easily measure progress like playing guitar and spending time on relationships with friends. These are things that you can easily make measurable progress with in a day or few hours. But... when I reflect, just like you say, I dont like that these tendencies cause me to be unable to stomach that uncertainty in the moment. It is almost like you both need to have complete faith in what you are doing but also being able to sit in uncertainty without distracting yourself. This comment is a bit long but I hope other people could reflect a bit more from what I shared :). Great listen btw

I agree with everything you've said! I also watched that video about staring at a wall and I think that can be a great practice in recognizing what your mind turns to to numb itself from the discomfort of uncertainty or boredom while also gaining clarity about the things that are actually important and impactful for you.

Wooah, you got that out my mind 😱 it's first time I watched you and you already convinced me to follow you. The opinion that you gave here sounded like really non-popoular opinion in the field of psychology and I love that❤ I'm myself a student of psychology and I already have some opinions about for ex. feelings that are like blind spots for my profesors when I try to talk with them about it. Looking forward for more your videos! ❤

I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING. This is great my dad told me this idea of “liking to fix people” when I was figuring out dating in HS. Today it finally clicked.

I'm glad you think so! I try to pull as much as I can from my own experience because that's all I can truly be sure of, so it might not always resonate with everyone or specific theories in psychology.

nuts to see the ways i intentionally avoided consciously appraising my life because i thought i was stuck with this conditioned mental operating system forever
