Absolutely THE MOST brutal takedown I've ever seen in an anime. No instant death pressure points or fighting ghosts, no exacto swords or magic or anything. Just an old tank rifle, a couple of mines, a truck jack and hit-and-run tactics that would make Solid Snake proud. Oh, I almost forgot, and a handheld Pile Bunker.
I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen the audience get wasted by stray shots in an anime before. Most of the time the stands are just miraculously empty.
That is because this is before anime became a kids show. Even your young adult stuff is too scared to actually kill anyone up close like that. Back in the day, anime had balls.
@@davidtipps4927 friend I passed young adult status several years back. I’m just not very familiar with Armored Trooper VOTOMS and its spinoffs. It’s been on my watch list for a long time and I just never got around to it.
The craziest thing is how Mellowlink spent the entire time sprinting while lugging two huge mines, a hi-lift jack, a massive AT rifle, and a pile bunker. Plus ammo. The dude is insane.
@@patron8597 He didn't outrun bullets. The guy in the armor was playing with him. The people in the stands even point out how skilled both are and their tendencies in battle. That said, running for several minutes with minimal breaks with 50-70lbs of gear/weapon is tough. Furthermore, it can be inferred from the design/art choices the aiming in the mech is direct. Not assisted. So 360 no scope head shots while playing sick riffs in your cockpit aren't happening in this universe.
Hey, its not impossible especially when it's life or death. A lot of elite soldiers, the Chad's of their units, pull that kind of stuff off in training just to dunk on the new recruits.
This is an OVA released later about a different character than most VOTOMs content. The story in Mellowlink is a little weak but the animation is pretty good. The animation of the original VOTOMs anime is pretty good for its time, and rarely ever reuses footage
I like the story of Mellowlink, for what it's worth. I especially like how most episodes focus on the individual revenge missions. In my opinion Mellowlink is far and above the best part of Votoms but you may enjoy all of Chirico's story in the other series so try them if you want
Using an anti-armour rifle against mecha and needing to use strategy and equipment to overpower them is a premise with limitless potential. I wish this idea got more fleshed out, maybe a 0083 Rebellion style reimagining that uses more scenarios and builds off the foundation of the OVA. I'm happy to hear that the masters have been found, gonna have to rewatch it now that it's in better quality.
Observe there is an anime for that. Called massive heavy object. It's about two mech engineers who fight mechs with nothing but their brains and hands. And the girl one of them likes who happens to pilot with heavy object herself. Trust me the fights are SUPER TENSE and the dudes? they're no where NEAR as tough as this guy but full on fight mechs that were strong enough to survive missile strikes straight from high orbit.
@@tsunertoo9149Oh yeah I saw that one. It's pretty decent. Although the mechs in that show are more like giant moving fortresses than achual mechs like 40k titan sized.
@Demicleas I like how realistic the show approaches mechas, like, how could u use a humanoid giant machine on earth. I can see they thrive in space (realistically), but for ground war, don't we just end up with mobile-artillery platforms 😂
@@llLoWangll It's not just that, there's this visual quality to actual cel animation that just looks different than computer-colored frames, I think it's just the way light hit the colors. Plus there's this barely perceptible softness to it. Plus the actual art style but it's not just that. I don't know quite how to put it into words, older anime just has this different visual "vibe" that I miss.
I just hate how oversaturated most anime is nowadays. The colors are often ridiculously bright and they contrast with each other in a way that quickly makes my eyes feel really tired.
All this shooting and explosions were a diversion from the real attack. Mellowlink exploited Fox's weakness of gloating. All Mellow needed was to get close.
I just got a blu-ray box set of Armored Trooper VOTOMS 'cause of your uploads!! I'm a handful of episodes into the first series, it's awesome as hell!!
Just so everyone knows, this was one of the anime specifically called out by Mike Pondsmith (Cyberpunk 2020) for what sets the tone for a Cyberpunk game.
@@SergioSergio12345 Its sucks ass and only had one booklet when its advertised that it would have more book releases later on. the book uses the OG Anime as almost a adventure guide while really giving you nothing to explore the rest of the universe with. its the F90 Of RPGS
I love when someone takes direct advantage of a villain's sadism or something like that. Full reversal on the fear factor, too! Garvin goes from sadistic glee to feeling more fear than he ever had in his life. This isn't a clip, it's a poetic excerpt.
@@mrtyler603 Not "made by the same guy" exactly, but you're on the right track. Gundam was created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, VOTOMS was created, directed etc by Ryousuke Takahashi. However both series were produced by the same studio, Sunrise. As for sound design, you can hear a lot of sound effects repeated in Sunrise shows in the 80s and 90s. Ryousuke Takahashi is directing another anime this year, called The Fable based off a manga. Crazy that he's still making stuff when he's been at it since the 70s.
animation studio for this was TMS Entertainment Who ironically also did American cartoon "Peter Pan and the Pirates" If you look "Mellowlink" resembles..........
I like that the fire select on the mech machine gun is not linked to the UI in the cockpit, he has to use the mechanical hands of the mech to switch as if it were a real gun.
If just look the statistic on the paper, Armour Trooper vs humans, overall in terms of speed, fire power , durability and Stamina, there is nothing a mere human can match it. But in the end the dude win, what a match!
No AI was used to upscale. Apparently the masters for Mellowlink were found in 2021 and released on the Perfect Soldier Boxset Bluray (which i got this from). No info was given how they were acquired, I'm assuming the studio managed to find them in their archive. Shining Heresy masters are still being looked into by the studio.
Yes -- follows the story of one soldier who was betrayed as he hunts down his old commanders who were responsible. I haven't yet found a good place to watch the whole series, but I'm very interested.
I was wondering how you make a show out of a mech vs man fight but now I realize id pay money to see a cat and mouse game like this (granted they can build a 20mm resistant transparent dome around it )
The girl turns her head so as not to see the death of the pilot, but a few scenes before the guy already shoots many people in the audience and they were left watching.
