Not just one of the best OVAs ever made… THE BEST. Granted a lot of the flashback stuff should have been explored more but what we got is pretty damn good.
As a lifelong mecha fan at 24yrs old, I can’t thank my late dad enough for getting me into mecha when he bought me a bunch of mecha anime dvds when I was a kid. Shows like Votoms, Escaflowne, Full Metal Panic, and of course Gundam are massive impacts in my life simply because my dad wanted to buy some dvds and watch em with me. If that didn’t happen I never would’ve known about this masterpiece of a series and so many other mecha. Thank you Dad.
@@christopherschneider2968 yeah, the 'super polymer' they use is the only thing that makes them viable, though they're stylized after Vietnam-era hydraulic systems.
@@TheTrueAdeptpolymer ringer is likely to be dirt cheap for how efficient it is to be used on billions of ATs and other equipment, it’s also extremely flammable to the point a chain reaction of PR liquid storages exploding was able to alter a whole planet’s climate
Also there is the fact they carry lots of ammunition, this actually happens in modern tanks. You ever see modern tank wrecks there is nothing left after the fuel and ammo goes.
oh dude, its Hilarious how little Balarant, the main "enemy" force never appear in this series. Its like if Zeon never showed up in the original MSG and the White Base Crew had to fight off GMs and other feddie forces every other day.
VOTOMS really emphasizes how successful the Scopedog is as a mass produced machine. Every belligerent forces out there adopts it. Honestly if Anaheim Electronics realistically sells to all sides, conflicts in Mobile Suit Gundam would look like this.
I still dont know why they ended up attacking the Melkian forces.. where they stupid? its been years since I've watched it first and cycled through like three major friendships sharing this series with them and I've still never gotten a answer
@@EpicBlargman My only genuine guess is that they where a Investigation force too see where all the drop out trainees where going after they failed Canibalism training and Yoran "PDFfile" Pailsen just sent in his attack dog force so they wouldn't find out what he was doing on Odon
I'm not a huge mecha guy but this and the Zaku (hope I used the right name.) are some of my favorites. There's something so industrial about them, no frills, no pizzazz, just big chunky boys doing a job. The working man's mech, if you will. (Like I said I don't know mecha anime I might be speaking out my ass, sorry.)
The best part about the Scopedogs in Votoms is they were meant to be mass produced with cheap materials and highly explosive liquid for its muscle fibers. We call them "Grunt suits" in the mecha community. The writer of Votoms wanted the series to run on real robot and hard science logic for added realism. For example these mechs are not the size of skyscrapers but rather like the size of a pickup truck aligned vertically, and from time to time they also fight actual tanks and helicopters. The actual acryonm for VOTOMS is "Vertical One-man Tank for Offense & ManeuverS" its treated like a vehicle.
