Awesome video again. I have a rival mt10 and an Arrma Big Rock. Really similar to the Granite but a longer chassis. For me the big rock is a the favorite. Both are awesome for sure. I did have the same red motor mount bend on the Big Rock. Both M2C and Hot Racing make upgraded ones that are stronger aluminum and have an extra thick aluminum piece added to totally prevent any possibility of bending.

Great video, entertaining as always, now with added explosions, even! I'm not just about to buy any of these, but if I were, this would be a good video to watch! Was interesting with that plastic weld thing, I didn't expect it to hold... Suspension arms are usually easy to replace (unless it's Kyosho and nowhere on stock), bbut seems like a good part to attempt a repair on...

So I already received the Rival V2! Gotta love AMAZON. MAn thats a pretty car out of the box. I already feel bad about knowing what its going to look like in a few weeks! LOL. First thing I did was replace the receiver and set it up on my NB4. It was pulling pretty hard to the right and I realized quickly that the servo horn needed to be moved one notch then used a bit of subtrim to get her rolling str8. Being a beginner, I found the steering to be a bit squirly so 100% rates/50% expo on steering made me comfortable for now. I did try both 2s and 3s in the car and 3s is deff alot more punchy. Couple of quesstions for you: Im assuming the 3s pack will give more authority in the air? What would be good C ratings for both the 2s and 3s packs assuming running the car hard? I have a ton of batteries here as is but looking to pick up a few new Packs. And lastly, being new to this do you see any advantages to a begginer using 2s or 3s while learning? Thank you for your advice.

I have the mt10 v2 and I absolutely love it! I also would like to get a granite in the near future. From what I've seen out of these two trucks you really can't go wrong with either one. On my mt10 I actually put in a blx 100 and now I'm running 2.8 proline badlands and had it out yesterday and pulled off a few double backflips. And just from what I've seen with the motor mount bending from what I've seen from you and others I came up with a solution I hope I just folded some thinner cardboard and jammed it beneath the motor to hopefully help with those big impacts. Thanks for the comparison!

Great video, Evan. Loads of useful info in there, for anyone considering either. I reckon Ive spent a bit more on our Mt10 than our Big Rock but much of that comes down to a replacement motor as I bought it 2nd hand. For anyone interested, the blx system from a breakers like Jennys or a hobbywing will deliver the shortfall in power between the two. We have a Max10SCT in our MT10 with a 3200kv hobbywing g2 motor...... and its the exact equal of our BR with its stock blx electronics. 15t Arrma pinion on the MT10 and 17t on the BR. Worth also considering the new Hobbywing BL120 esc as a terrific value upgrade over stock on the MT10. Weve bent the motor mounts in both cars and while there are heaps of aftermarket upgrades for the 3S arrmas from the likes of m2c, CRCU and Oktays, no one (yet) makes one for the Mt10. We had the same problem on the Mt10 that Evan identifies - due to the design of the Mt10s mount, its easy for the screw to come undone (loctite it!) and the mesh to slip and when that happens you can wreck the spur gear. Weve also broken the MT10s wheelie bar, rear driveshafts and front A-arms. Both Mt10 and Big Rock now have RPMs and we've had no problems since. I think the Mt10 suspension is significantly plusher and a common (but expensive) upgrade for the 3S Arrmas are the 6S shocks. Once fitted, the Arrmas handle brilliantly, albeit without the extra benefit of the centre diff. Talking of which, Arrma 3S diffs seem noticeably less durable than Team Associated ones, when fed a pure 3S diet. A (relatively) inexpensive upgrade to the Arrma diffs is to fit an aluminium yoke from RCAWD or Hot Racing and that extends their life significantly. All metal diffs are also available from Jennys and others as they come standard on the Arrma 4S v2 range and are a direct fit. Unless people want to replicate the back2back tests done in this video I actually wouldnt reccomend owners of one to buy the other but to get something similarly sized but more different. If youve got an MT10, Id reccomend a Big Rock, typhon or Senton instead of a Granite. At least you'll get a different driving experience. If you already have a Granite, get some worthwhile upgrades for it instead of an MT10. Just my opinion, of course but having an MT10 and a Big Rock I like them both very much. Very interesting to see you using an HV Lipo. These are discussed surprising rarely and I think its a common preconception that you have to have an ESC that is specifically HV compatible.

Nice info! I'm trying to decide between the rival mt10 or the granite. At this point in time they are the about same price with the mt10 being now actually $10 more. @DerbyCityRC
@DerbyCityRC 4 месяца назад
@pizzomedia7261 yes it’s a tough decision and wow I didn’t realize the MT upped in price. I see Razors point, in terms of as far as amperage goes, the mt10 system can handle 3s, but they’re still on the lower side of it. I do think I like the granite a bit more. BUT!!! I’m actually working on a video for the Vorteks, and you might be surprised with that one lol Should have that out in 2-3 more days.

@@DerbyCityRC thanks for the opinion! I think I would get the granite if it wasn't for the slipper clutch that everyone seems to dislike in the 3s line. Still undecided, haha!

I’ve spent a lot of time bashing at skate parks throwing RC’s 40 and 50 feet in the air. FDR skate park in Philly is one of those spots. Even though the team associate/Helion seems to have a better reputation for bashing and durability than the Granite I can tell you once you’ve reinforce the shock towers of the Granite with an epoxy it will be tougher than the team associated Rival. Especially if it’s warm out! The rival chassis will break at the front bulkhead I’ve never broke the Granite Chassis. Where I would break the granite in the past was the shock tower. A buddy of mine reinforced them with an epoxy and it never happened again. You may break a A arm with a really bad landing but that’s rarely gonna happen when it’s above 70° out in the summer. If you do break a A arm you can replace them with RPM. The only issue with the Rival is that from bulkhead but it’s a cheap replacement and way easier than replacing the whole chassis. I’ve heard from everybody in the associate at a arms are not as tough as the original Helion A arms, but again A arms are cheap. And dude, you should watch the Rich Duperbash video from like 2019/20 when he goes into his Granite upgrades. I think he was one of the first people that widened the Granite. Also, I not only have the 3s BLX pro line shocks but I also have the hot racing shock bodies for the 3s line. There’s also the cheap metal ones everyone uses from Amazon. As well as Jenny RC if you wanna order some cheap 6s Typhon shocks. I think you should consider a shock upgrade since I know you’re keeping the granite in your fleet and it’s such an awesome rig. I have yet to see the new 4s BLX line but I know their shocks are really awesome and I wonder how they would do on the 3S line as well. The three shocks are awesome especially when they don’t leak but when you’re going really big it is nice to have a little bit more of an upgrade.
@DerbyCityRC
@DerbyCityRC 11 месяцев назад
That’s all good info man! I do plan on widening the granite so I’ll check that video out. I’ve broken that front bulkhead on the rival also. Easy and cheap fix luckily, but I’d say that and the A arms are its weakness, even though it does take a lot to break that chassis/bulkhead/skid plate. I already have a set of the RPM granite arms ready for install!
@davidmellish3295
@davidmellish3295 11 месяцев назад
Well that's unexpected to be honest. I've watched Kevin Talbot beat the hell out the Rival and he reckons it's one of the toughest rc's he's ever driven and as I'm sure you know, kev really takes bashing to another level and it took one hell of a beating and nothing broke. Yet you're saying the Granite is stronger so long as you upgrade the shocks
@DerbyCityRC
@DerbyCityRC 11 месяцев назад
The mt10 is definitely a durable truck! I’ve broken mine but not the first couple times I had it out. I do think it’s more durable than the granite but it’s also a little slower and lighter weight which helps! Both are awesome!

@@DerbyCityRC yah the new esc(Quicrun 10BL120) really increased the performance and the motor actually feel like it runs a little cooler with the more efficient esc. Also there is a bonus to upgrading to this esc, it's skinnier than the stock which allows for a longer motor. I am thinking of throwing in a spare 540L motor 2400kv 4s compatible with a 5mm shaft and see how it rips. Also if any one get this esc you have to change the connection on the motor to 4mm pins stock are too small.

I am with you, I have both the same trucks and both are my favorite. Both trucks are a beast, recently replaced my diffs on the Granite to metal diffs. The MT-10 with that 3300kv Reedy Motor has WAY MORE POTENTIAL, first thing I did was swapped on the ESC to a BLX 100, battery straps and added a motor fan. The MT-10 is just as fast as the Granite now. The MT-10 ESC doesn't do the car's justice at all, definitely deserves a better ESC. The plastic welding works best with shredded Brillo pad (not with the soap on , lol ) . The steel pieces work but the Brillo fibers work so much better . Both can be done at the same time too . How cool would it be to see arms and pieces with infused steel fibers. Steel rods would be too stiff and bendy . Maybe spring steel ? Whomever comes out with something like this will be ground breaking and everyone will want it imo .

The simple fact, that you land your RC's on cement/pavement, and these two held up as long as they did, well, they BOTH get props. You're brutal with your testing, and since they both held up, they both get recommendations. That being said, I have put my Granite through, a lot of shit (but never landed on cement/road top), and have hardly broken anything, other than body mounts, or the body shell. The Granite is, for SURE, a giver and a taker. It will take, nearly, whatever you give it. I know, that the Rival takes an absolute beating, as well, but I've never driven one and I've seen that bastard tortured (Kevin Talbot) and tested. Both, excellent choices for bashing and, as always, this was a great video. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t know why or who would think the Rival is better for Skate parks. Sure Kevin Talbot may have said it’s the toughest and maybe someone else said it handles better because it DOES handle better, BUT at skate parks you need air control and the Granite has better air control with the stock system and more comfortable controller. The Redcat MT10E is also an AMAZING skate park RC, BUT if you wanna go big and use the stock systems the Granite is better for skate parks.

I see your body reinforcement method, which works well. I switched to using Clear Flex-Seal to reinforce my bodies. It takes about 3-4 light coats, but ends up a lot lighter. IF the body cracks, you probably won't notice because the Flex-Seal holds it together. It does make the body MUCH stiffer, I just like the ease of application. The Big Rock is supposedly the same thing as the granite except it has a longer wheelbase which could make it more stable. Most likely it’s pretty similar to the granite, but may not flip in the air quite like the granite does also due to that long wheelbase. For crazier driving I’d say the big rock and for better handling and being a little more tame, I’d say the mt10. I will have a Vorteks video coming out soon and if you can get that, that’s another good option. The better handling of the 3s Arrmas.

I must say that after all these jumps, all these breakages are totally acceptable. You can't say that are bad trucks. The MT10 is slower because of the electronics or maybe of the whole gearing. For me i like to have also a better driving experience, but again i like both of them. Personally i have the MT10 and i suggest it. Today i drove for the first time my brand new traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl 3s, and i have bend one suspension saft, also i lost the lower round plastic part that holds steady the spring of the suspension, and these damages are from the first day. The MT10 didn't have these damages from the first day after 2 months of the same driving. So this say that maybe the MT10 is better ? kind of ? For sure the MT10 is yes from me.

Both are amazingly durable, but that extra 15% performance out of the Arrma means a lot of extra build strength in terms of durability. It's not the new hotness, but it is likely the better built and bang for the buck truck. It doesn't have the center differential - which is a preference thing - and the MT10 may be easier to handle on asphalt, but it is largely inferior on grass, dirt, and typical loose traction offroad conditions. If handling is your thing, a lower vehicle with a longer wheel base would be more appropriate. A Kraton will eat both for lunch.
@DerbyCityRC
@DerbyCityRC 11 месяцев назад
Ya Kraton eats them both, except for air control. Atleast my 6s Kraton is too heavy and harder to flip around. 4s is probably a bit better for that. An outcast may be the best of both worlds and maybe I’ll have one one day!

@@DerbyCityRC Seems like the Notorious is almost the same chassis as the Outcast, not sure of the exact differences, probably some less durable components/bracing, different body, and a bit less cost. We have a 6s Notorious and it's a fairly flippy sucker in the air, handles ok-ish on asphalt if you dial down the steering angle, and wheelies everywhere - and I mean everywhere - it feels way overpowered for the chassis, which is pretty fun and requires some driver skill/concentration. Our 3s Bigrock can out drag race it easily on both dirt and asphalt just due to the Notorious's inability to get power into a forward motion. But it ranks high on smiles per mile and is the one everyone wants to drive. That's saying something considering the variety of cars we use, although it is the biggest. It just crushes rough terrain, jumps well, and is fast as anyone can reasonably handle in our fam. Durability has been mostly ok as well. But the smaller and/or less expensive cars are maybe just as entertaining, the breakage/cost anxiety is all but eliminated and it's fun to see how much punishment they can take. It really depends on the terrain available to you, big cars can usually be used in more places, but not always. It essentially comes down to these 3 factors: The right car for The right environment at Your right budget is the key to maximizing fun.

@LGHTSPD675 I agree with all that! Ya the cost of Arrma 6s maintenance is the only reason I don’t have a notorious or outcast. Still considering a 4s version though

@@DerbyCityRC I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Arrma 6s Notorious to anyone. Arrma has some crazy good deals on various websites for certain 6s models. Heck, the Outcast 6s is Fourhundred $ on towerhobbies right now. There is a value ratio in the hobby that is critically under-discussed. I think you have done and continue to do a great job of finding that optimum for new persons to the hobby and experienced enthusiast. I think that is why your channel is growing. There are a lot of new products and the whole segment is growing. That is great! However, with all the new products, it is hard to know what performs well and what doesn't. That's where you come in. You are relatable, entertaining, genuine, have a positive mindset, but also tell us the truth and give us the facts. I think you are well positioned. You are doing great! If the formula ever gets stagnant (which it is not in any way!) you could increase to the fun and entertainment in a fun friendly rivalry (maybe from your brother - maybe that is the plan already?) that offers counter points, family friendly/brotherly jabs, humour, and competition. Like a Top Gear for RC.

@@DerbyCityRC I made a mistake, it's the 1/5 scale 8s that is on sale for 400 $ on towerhobbies.

Rival MT10 for $339 or Granite BLX for $269. What one should I go with? I'm not going to do a ton of bashing. Thanks
@DerbyCityRC
@DerbyCityRC 11 месяцев назад
That’s a great price for the granite and hard to pass up. I think the mt10 has a slightly better durability and handling rating. Granite has better speed and power performance. Depends on where you’d be running it and what you want out of it.

@@DerbyCityRC I would be running it in the grass most of the time and maybe on a gravel driveway. So is the Granite still the better deal? Thanks

@@DerbyCityRC do you think the losi lasernut is any good compared to the other 2? I can get it for 250

The granite will power through grass better, but the mt still does fine. Both would be good one gravel probably. Hard to steer people away from a center diff!

Weve talked before about doing a center diff from the new 4s truvcks, and i finally got everuthing i need to complete my granite-to brcc with 4s center differential and a castle creations copperhead 10 2s-4s.sensored esc paired to a 3800 kv sensored brushless monstor. Without center diff and without lwb and wjde track kit, ny granite could hit just under 60mph on sketchy stock tires thst were hanging on for dear life lol. Anyways im thinking of maybe makkng a video showing how im converting my granited 4x4 into a beast 4s brcc with a center diff. Would anyone even watch it? Lmk guys an maybe ill record everything for you.

I have 5 Arrma cars only one with stock plastic gears is the granite. It's my step sons, he loves it. I have a Bigrock 3s converted to 4s v2 suspension and runs Hobbywing max 10 sct 120 amp esc. Going to do the 2.5 center diff
