In this video I am going to show you how well our arrma typhon 3s held up over 1.5 years of constant abuse and use. I go into detail about all the modifications we made and every part we had to replace over the duration of ownership so you can have a good idea of what to expect.

These long term reviews are super useful. Way better than all the clowns who provide a “review” after 5 minutes of driving a vehicle. Thanks.

I have had my Big Rock 3s for over 4 years. The parts you replaced were expendables. I changed out most of those parts when I first got it to make it as strong and durable as possible. The Servo is a great upgrade. Arrma makes some very strong Rc cars I am very pleased with my Big Rock. I have not broken anything in 10 batteries.
@mjrprojects9476

Glad ur enjoying them. I typically like to wait for the stock parts to break before I replace them but I can understand replacing them all at once to reduce maintenance time and downtime. Btw I have run a lot of batteries through my Typhon, I would say prolly north of 100 cycles.

when it comes to replacement parts you get what you pay for. you can't buy crappy parts and expect them to last. when you get any rc before you even use it you need to go through it. make Shure everything is oiled, greased and put together properly. I've been in this hobby since 1992 and still love it.

Great video! Love these long term reviews. Most of the things you brought up were regular wear and tear which is very promising. I just got my 3S a few weeks ago and have sent it like crazy and even raced it (and did way better than I expected I would for an untuned RTR going against kit builds!). It’s such a fun car. Nice video btw, very helpful.

@@GeddyRC I’m glad you went for it, you will really enjoy it! The best advice I can give if you really use the car regularly is that once you get to the point where stuff is breaking on every run just pitch the car and buy a new one. That’s the beauty of it being such a cheap rtr. Trust me it will end up saving you money in the long run. I have spent the cost of the vehicle once over in replacement parts and the thing is still just sitting on the shelf right now because little issues pop up every time I take it out. But like I mentioned in the video, this is only an issue if you really drive the crap out of this car (which most people don’t). Have fun!!!

Hi mate. Metal spur gear is recommended and changing the motor mount too. Great video mate 👍😁
@mjrprojects9476

I’ve actually looked into both before. The metal spurs seem to hard to find and quite expensive ($40-$50 a pop). I also haven’t experienced any unusually fast spur or pinion wear (yet) that might indicate I have bent motor mount. But I am keeping an eye on it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yup, I’m sure I could’ve kept it in better condition than I did and it prolly would’ve lasted longer without needing as much replacing but it’s a realistic review. I purposely included those details as an attestment to just how good it did do considering my lack of maintenance and care while running. Because how many of these viewers do you think are actually going to take the proper RC precautions and care is all’s I’m saying. Good point though nonetheless.

Thats a pretty solid review.. Sand is so rough on RC... I just got back into RC after many years and picked up a used redcat volcano exp pro for cheap even with all the upgrades its not durable at all... I kind of miss my old Ultra GT LX it broke but we beat the snot out of them back then.. I may have to find some 40% and fire up the 100mph LD3 I have from years ago....

My servo went out in the 3rd week. I just swapped it with a traxxas servo with metal gears today for the meantime. The camber link bends, too. I replaced the gearbox because the plastic was the bearing to the spur gear was all warped and replaced the spur gear only. The gearbox was revised I had the old one.

Good video, I am on the fence with either this Typhon or the 1/10 vorteks 4wd 3s blx stadium truck. Do you have a comparison on both? or the Vorteks? BTW, your voice in comparison to the music was much quieter. I had to turn it up pretty high, then when the music came on, I had to quickly turn the volume down.

Looks like this is the one of the top runners a lot of people like in deciding what arrma 3s to get . Prob can’t go wrong with any of them . I thought the vorteks would be the best with the electronics and the controller but this one seems to get quite a lot of comments on the most liked out of all of them , or the big rock , or the granite . It is a hard choice for me personally . I don’t think a person can go wrong with this one.
@mjrprojects9476
@mjrprojects9476 3 месяца назад
I like the Typhon because of its classic buggy design as opposed to the sort of monster truck-ish look of the granite. Also the Typhon comes with the larger 8th scale wheels. It’s really just a matter to preference though. If you are looking to buy you might want to wait until Black Friday cause they sometimes knock em down to $199.99 which is a steal. But if u don’t want to wait they are still a pretty great deal at 300. I bought mine at 300 and I haven’t regretted it a bit!

I ran it mostly on the street when at home but whenever I take it somewhere I will run it off-road usually on sand and dirt. So it is probably somewhere around 50-50 concrete and off-road usage because I don’t run it as often at home.

Great video. I love my typhon. I had the same issues on an accelerated level (do to bashing hard) Most of the problems you had with looseness (about 85%) are fixed with better bearings, aluminum ball ends, and aluminum steering bellcrank. My differential also tore up after about a week so I did the same replacement, but if you put aluminum yokes on them, they fair much much better as the yoke has play which is what causes the stripping. I also recommend having multiple sets of tires, I have the sama amazon offroad which are great but I went with the 1/8 knock off Toyo Proxes for street tires. Suspension is actually great from stock, you just have to change the ball ends to aluminum (they come in the kit). The list of parts replaced is what most people replace almost immediately on most RTRs. One thing I would mention tho is you say you had all these problems recently, but don't elaborate. What problems? Bad parts? Bad instillation? Trial and error issues? Was there more that needed to be replaced? One thing is you mention you had all these problems with it lately, yet you don't elaborate. The list
@mjrprojects9476
@mjrprojects9476 Год назад
I love my Typhon as well, I think it’s a great value for money. As far as the looseness fix you mentioned some sort of kit with the ball ends and other replacement parts? Could you tell me the name of this kit or give me a link and I’ll look into it. Also I have a replacement aluminum bellcrank that I bought but haven’t put in yet so I might look into that. I know I could have bullet proofed it from the beginning but I don’t run it that hard and I like to get some use out of the rtr parts. After all if you buy a cheap car and immediately start pouring money into it then it’s no longer a cheap car and you could have just saved the hassle and brought a more expensive car. I don’t really understand what you mean by not elaborating enough, I just made an entire video detailing every problem I’ve had with the car and how I fixed it. If you’re talking about my summary at the end, I was just including general dates about when I encountered each batch of issues to create a kind of timeline for viewers to see at what age and amount of usage to expect what problems. I was exaggerating when I said each time I take it out there is a new problem as you can see from the video how recently the problems have been getting more and more frequent.
@rdiaz78065
@rdiaz78065 7 месяцев назад
I don't really understand his remark either. You explained it pretty well and I left the video unconfused and understood it pretty well. I like to bulletproof the car after the parts need replacing and not immediately after I buy it. Sounds like another 🤡

I kind of operate on a run it till it breaks and then fix it maintenance schedule. But nevertheless I am always available for advice if u want to comment. Goddam. Is it me or does it feel like a lot of ish went bad, no? Or are these things on par with what you would usually have to deal with anyways?
@mjrprojects9476
@mjrprojects9476 Год назад
There was definitely a lot that needed to be replaced for sure!🤣😂 But some things like the gears and diffs were just general maintenance that would expected running the car as long and as much as we have. On the other hand, the servo and suspension linkage and the wheel falling off were just bad design. A lot of this stuff is wear and tear over time tho after a lot of running it whereas most of the issues people usually encounter are from bashing and breaking stuff cause they don’t usually run the car as much as we have. So as far as durability and bash-ability the car is great and it stood up really well in the first 6 months where we ran it the most. So for you if u just wanna get the car out and run it every once in a while the car is very low maintenance and it’ll run great. I can say we’ve had cars that run at much lower speed and encounter less wear that we’ve spend more money on and had to replace more parts on (cough) (cough) (Tamiya CC-01)
