Love that Asics really improved the stable ness of the novablast 2. Looking forward to actually trying it now 😅. You guys need to try the Reebok float ride energy 3! It’s insane for 100 dollars it’s a shoe that really should be around 130-160 for me. It’s just a really good shoe that happens to be affordable
I have 2 pairs of the first Novablast. The regular and the Tokyo version. The instability on the first version is only noticeable for me on the first 30k and then it settles down. Great for my progression and long runs.
As an older, non-elite runner, I appreciate the cushion and smooth ride of the Novablast (and the Rincon). Can't wait for version 2 to hit the market. I think Asics has done it again.
I recommemd you check out some videos about the benefits of zero drop shoes. I think they're good for your feet, ankles, knees, etc., but you will probably have to build up foot strength for a few weeks or months before running in them.
The Puma Velocity Nitro should definitely be in the top 3 for daily trainers. 👌 A jack-of-all-trades shoe and the real surprise of 2021. Puma is back in the running game. 😜
This goes to show you how subjective running shoe reviews are- i didnt think it was unstable at all and I thought it felt pretty bouncey and fast underfoot. The detractant for me was the upper, which was cheap and developed boles quickly. I haven't bought asics in 20 yrs and I bought 2 pairs of these now
Coming up on 600 miles on Novablast 2. Retired Novablast 1 at 618 miles. NB 2 at 450 miles is more worn out than NB1 at 600. NB 2 upper tire at 300 miles where big toe hits. NB1 was a rocket, NB2 feels clunky and slow. Unless NB3 makes drastic changes (which rumors suggest there will be big changes) I will not but another pair. Currently shopping for a replacement.
@@tadejdanev5030 shoe retirement is triggered by feel under foot or physical wear, which ever comes first. I run 6 to 15 miles a day, mostly every day, which provides a rhythm and I can sense when shoes start to feel different. Sometimes parts of my feet start to suffer or the shoe’s response starts to feel flat. Other times, the outsole wears through to the midsole or the midsole starts to compress and wrinkle. As much as I love long lasting shoes, after 500 to 600 miles in a pair, it is fun to try something new, so sometimes if a shoe is still OK, I replace it for fun and use the old shoes for running errands and getting around town.
This is one of the best running shoes I’ve ever owned. I’ve been running for 12 years, so I’ve gone through a pair of two. As a New Balance/Nike kinda guy I decided to try something new. As a result I went w the trend and got myself some Hoka Clifton edge, which were brutal on my feet/knees. Completely destroyed my feet and ended up w sore knees every time. I traded them for these ASICS and I’m glad I did. I can see this as a daily runner and even as a solid half marsthon/marathon shoe.
Loved the OG Novablast. Never really noticed the 'instability'. I went from react foam to FF Blast and it was such a different experience. I also never had any issue with the tongue size, or it shifting around. If the ride has the similar bounce, this will be a winner.
This. Never understood the instability thing most reviewers talk about. I did notice the trampoline effect first time in the shoe and it was amazing, but did not feel unstable, just endless joy. Also am a forefoot runner so don't know if that factors into why i never felt unstable in the shoe.
@@keithc1264 I did get NB2. Currently at 551 miles on NB2. Took NB1 to 618. Looking for a new daily trainer to replace NB2s. Hoping NB3 news arrives soon with major improvements. NB1 ≠ NB2. 1 was fast. 2 is slow. NB1 gave me blisters. NB2 is way more comfortable, but the NB2s just feel clunky. Gotta be the added weight and lower drop. NB2 is less springy.
Great review - appreciate the pyrotechnics in the beginning. Love the Novablast 1 - the upper of the 2 sounds like a big improvement but hopefully they didn’t change the ride too much and it still has the same bounce with the stiffer forefoot that feels like a rocker.
Definitely way less bounce than NB1 in my experience. Maybe because the NB1 got me used to the FFBlast bounce and the NB2 just feels normal now? The numbers don’t lie though - my NB1 runs were way way faster, even in easy days. My NB2 runs are slower, despite setting new PRs all year long in my other shoes.
Glad it's an 8mm drop. The 10 is what kept me from buying. How does it compare to the 1080v11? I love the ride of the 1080.. but hate the upper, the heel and the fit. Asics always come proper with upper.
great review, it feels that the Nova Blast 2 did not make aggressive enough changes to the upper and the weight change might put people off. This new iteration looks more like a long-run, recovery shoe. Nevertheless, it's nice to see that Asics is going in a modern direction with the Novablast II and New Speed series. Having a rotation of Mach4, Endorphin Speed, New Balance 1080V11 it would take a lot of perfection in a shoe to make me look at other models. Consumers are spoilt for choice these days!
I didn't find the Novablast 1 unstable and it worked really well for long, faster runs as well as easy day. Maybe it's a question of your running mechanics, if you pronate a bit or something, you feel it.
I am worried, bought the Novablast 1 with the Tri Noosa colour scheme and i love it, it is amazing, it is soft enough, really bouncy, effortless running, capable of going fast, i have no stability problems with it, so, when a shoe works so well for me i get worried if the new version ruins what is perfect... i guess i will buy another pair of the original just in case...
Love V1, because I can buy 3 shoes vs. 2 Clifton's (based on sale) Hoka's only 20% off. Asics 50% off. And I like the energy return plus the bounce in the Asics vs sometimes the Clifton is like running in sand.
So I really loved the idea of the Novablast and I loved the way the foam felt but I couldn't get the upper to fit my foot. I bought a size 8 women's and it was way too big. I'm normally an 8 in running shoes and Asics usually run narrow for me. I twisted my ankle at least once each time I tried to run in them. So I stopped wearing them, and I was so sad! Hopefully the 2 is improved and I will definitely go down a half size.
I’m a fan of the first and imagine I will like these. The thing I don’t like is unfortunately a specific issue and it’s with the rubber in the middle forefoot. It’s right where my surgery incision was and it’s more pressure in that spot and it makes it tender. Like the shoe but a sad reason why I don’t always grab the shoe for runs
I bought the first version and I was really disappointed with the tongue. Seems minor, but because it would slide around on me, it gave me a blister on each foot underneath the top lace. I have been thinking that a gussetted tongue could prevent that.
Interesting update! I liked the ride of the first Novablast, but the collar gave me massive blisters on my heel and ankle. I ended up giving them to a friend after 50 km. Is the collar on the 2 a bit friendlier/softer, or similar? Thanks a lot!

First version did not work for me due to my weak ankle. Put a lot of stress without realizing. The shoes were very comfortable and I didn't mind the bounce. I really wished it was more stable so that I could wear them. So hoping to try out the second version based on your review and the changes made to the new version. Sure like to know the top 3 or 5 daily trainers so far in 2021. Curious if any shoes that were "hits" with you guys last year will make the list again this year. Thanks for putting out these videos. Very helpful (especially when you list "comps" at the end of your reviews).
That upper looks a million times better than version 1. The shoes I’ve tried from Asics haven’t had great uppers. I’m actually kinda surprised you say they are great with uppers, because I think they are close to the worst 😂😀 well, that’s subjective I guess. This might be a really good shoe!
I was just looking for another pair of shoes to add into my rotation that had a lower drop than my Novablast at 10mm but now I might just wait for the novablast 2. Nice!! Thoughts on this versus the Glideride 2/Evoride 2/Noosa 13 for daily trainers and long/easy runs?

Hey guys! I am currently looking for a replacement to my retired Pegasus 38 daily trainer, which I ran in last year for 500K’s. Since it’s winter right now, I am doing my daily runs in the Nike Invincibles. But come spring I will need a new daily running shoe. Choosing between the Boston 10, Novablast 2 and the new Puma Velocity Nitro 2. Which one would be your pick for a reliable daily trainer?
I loved the first Novablast. It only had three drawbacks. Shitty thin laces, unstability issue and stupid high drop. I changed the laces and used it for faster runs. That solved the two first problems. The high drop just ruins the shoe..., besides that.
Interesting that changing laces fixed the instability problem for you. What sort of laces did you change to and how do you think it fixed the instability?
@@AncoraImparoPiper Some Brooks laces I had saved. Fat and a bit elastic. It didnt give painfull pressurepoint on the upper side of my foot, as the standard Asics laces, and therefore I could give a more secure fit around the midfoot. I didnt remove the instability in the shoe. It's inherent ! But the better lacing gave better control.
How does the ride compare to the gel nimbus 24? Does it feel significantly lighter with more energy return at toe off? Wondering if I should just wait for the Novablast 3. I like my current daily trainer but keep hearing great things about the novablast series.

It doesn't, notice they side stepped it. They already said it was the shoe to beat for daily trainers. I have 3 pairs of NB rebel v2. I'm currently injured but still running b/c the shoes just make you want to go.
I have both the Novablast 1 and Rebel 1. Novblast feels very different to the Rebel. I far prefer the Rebel because it feels so much lighter and faster than the Novablast. I always reach for the Rebel. I heard Rebel v2 is just as good as the v1.
