Seth, for our anniversary today, my wife and I bought each other a race registration for a fall marathon. However, the best part was that she got me an extra gift of 4 different Bobo’s. There has been one big downside of the Novablasts one: Since the Novablasts I barely touch my daily trainers from before that. They're not bad, but the Novablasts raised the bar.

Agree, converted from Hoka's. I have 1200km's through two pairs of Nova 1's. Have ordered a pair of Magic Speed's....but will get some Nova 2's, too.

@@kenrickhk Sorry, I should have been more clear, I have had two pairs with roughly 600km's each. They are still fine to use but have certainly lost some of their bounciness at 500-600 - not surprisingly - and I find I blister up a little now whereas I didn't when they were new. The outsole has gone pretty smooth in places. In summary I would recommend some Nova 1's, especially if you can get them at a discounted price with the Nova 2 coming. I will say that both my Nova 1's smell absolutely horrific, but I think that may be more down to me than the shoe ;)

The more I listen to you and other reviewers, the more I want to experiment with different shoes over time. You and "Run with Heller" are my favorite reviews and the "Shoe-dio" term has taken on with me. I now have a folder for all thing running in my filing cabinet marked "Shoedio." This series certainly feels like a future try.

NOVABLAST! I’m at mile 499 on my OG’s. Definitely not a “new” feel, but honestly the midsole has held up very well and I could easily put another 100 on them. These are the best road shoes I’ve ever owned. Thanks Seth for recommending them last year!!!

Using ASICS novablast 1 right now. And loving the overall feel and little instability of the shoe. Use it for medium distance up tempo runs. Amazed at how responsive and versatile the shoe is. Definitely plan to get the novablast 2, later this year 😁

Loved the Novablast from 2020! I used them specifically as a long run shoe. The only thing I wanted was a little more under the forefoot and here it is! Very excited to give v2 a try. I didn't actually have stability issues; the 10mm drop was a bit more than I like though.

Love the original Novablast! I'm new to running and watching your video convinced me to buy Novablast. It was the best purchase that I ever made. Although in the beginning, it was a bit unstable and was a concern for me (as a person who is prone to ankle sprain). But after a good 10-20 miles, I don't feel it anymore. Love the ride, the bounce, breaking PR with it...I'm gonna buy it again. Watching this vlog makes me excited to get Novablast 2. Keep it up Seth, love your vlogs, motivates me to go for a run. I genuinely love the novablast 1. I want to believe it changed my running career entirely. I was wearing heavy shoes and suffering knee pain. Found your channel a little over a year ago, saw you talking about the shoe and how bouncy it was, and decided to try some. Over a year later I put in hecka miles and have broken personal records, all because this shoe got me back on track.

Seth, I love what you said about liking a little bit of instability in shoes. I guess I had never realized it, but I have no problems with instability for the same reason (makes you focus a little on your mechanics). I loved the first Novablast because it eventually made me feel much smoother in my footstrike.

Oh yeah ASICS Novablast has been a huge part of my running. It’s at about 500 miles and about ready to be replaced. My first marathon is in June and I also started a RU-vid channel to document the process. Butter the bread!

I’m now on my second pair of Novablasts and I still love them! I’m glad they fixed the heel counter since I’ve also had my Achilles rubbed raw a few times. I absolutely love the Novablasts though. Definitely my favorite running shoe I’ve ever owned

I had exactly the same problem with the originals! Bleeding heels ans ankles... I gave them away to a friend after 3 runs. Ride was amazing, so I’m looking forward to give the 2 a chance! Thanks for testing and clearing this up 😊

Hey Seth. Love the channel. I don't usually post on RU-vid but I love the Novablast as I am in my 2nd and 3rd pair currently. My 1st pair went 460 before I retired them and now that I am 10 lbs lighter should be able to hit 500 miles on them no problem. I haven't had an injury in almost year and I can attribute it to these shoes as you can pound the miles (like 100 mile weeks) and not your legs. I do everything from 5 mile recovery runs all the way to 20 milers at 6:30 pace and they feel great for all of these. Keep up the good work and I am excited for the Novablast 2!

QOD: I got a pair of Novablast at the beginning of this year (for $100!) and since then I have had a hard time grabbing anything else for my runs. Granted I’m not in a training program, but they are so versatile and feel so good it’s hard to pick something over them. I never would’ve known about them without watching your channel. Thanks man!

Good idea! Can anyone really beat Sauconys line-up though? Ride 14, Kinvara 12, triumph 19, endo speed 2, endo pro 2...butter! Asics has a shot though. But Nike, adidas, Brooks, Hoka and New Balance haven't showed up to the party with a complete or solid line-up yet.

Bought the Novablast based on your test and evaluation. I loved it. On my 4th pair now. I retired the others at 500 miles each. I am an old guy that is getting slower as I age but I actually think I run faster in these shoes. Will try the Novablast 2 for sure.

Hey Seth. Now I can’t wait to get the novablast 2 after seeing your Vlog. I have loved my original pair so much that I have now put almost 1400km in (which is way to much - I know). Used them for tempo and threshold runs in the beginning but now I only take them out for easy days. I have had issues with robbing on my Achilles’ tendon as well but it has been worth it. Got 2 pairs of original Novablast. At 323 and 512 miles atm so the higher mileage one is now just for easy/recovery days... I like them and have used them for all runs, from 5k timetrials to half marathon races, long runs, everything.

I'm not a super runner, i have not so much experience in running shoes. I came from some Nike and Mizuno. Then last year a bought a pair of Novablast after your review. A completely different experience, a funner and faster run, I felt like superman compared to the day before. They're not very stable but honestly I don't mind. I can't wait to buy the new version. Thank you for your work, your experience is important for the amateur runners but also for the beginners, and your passion can help a beginner to start a journey in a fantastic new word. Novablast shoes are awesome! I generally use these for long runs over 10 miles. I really like the energy return they provide. I only have 200 miles on them so far, and hoping to get the over 400.

Hey Seth, Just wanted to add onto the part of the comment of the day where they said that they feel more knowledgeable about shoes when in shoes stores. I have a funny story about that. The other day I went into the only running shoes store in my area with the Hoka Mach 4's. When I walked in asking for the Hoka Mach 4's the guy looked very confused because I am only 17 and he said he expected me to ask for something like some Jordan's or something. I though it was funny because if not for your review on the Hoka Mach 4's I would have never even considered them as a running shoe I should get. You definitely have improved my knowledge on running shoes.

I liked the Novablast overall. On flat roads it is the 2nd best shoe of 2020 in my opinion (right behind the Endorphin Speed). I even used them in a flat 5K race. On hillier roads, I had some major troubles with them as the large toe box caused my feet to move back and forth too much while going uphill and downhill, causing the worst blisters of my life after a 15 mile hilly long run. Ended up taking 4 days off running as a result as they hurt so much. They ended their life being an excellent tempo day shoe in the end. I absolutely loved the ride and bounce they brought to the table.

Spot on comment regarding the "unstable mid-sole" I just picked up a pair of NB 1080v11s and I feel the same way. They are forcing me to clean up my foot strike and stay off my heels.

I loved the original Novablasts so much that i bought a second pair. Like yourself, i had issues with bleeding heels and also rubbed the side of the top of my left foot for some reason. Didnt put me off them though. Cant wait to get my hands on the new ones at some point in the future 😊

QD: yes picked up a pair for cheap recently. Very comfortable ride that’s tough to keep to steady pace. Biggest gripe was the laces tend to dig into my foot by mile 4. Need to swap to a little more standard lace.

Bought it and loved t. No blister issues for me, and even being tall and thus quite heavy at 200 pounds, the shoe held up very well to frequent usage. Very weird to walk in it, great to run in it . I love the bouncy feeling and will consider the successor for sure...

QOD: I absolutely love the Novablast V1. It has been my go to daily trainer and I just bought my 3rd pair on clearance because I had absolutely no issues with the original version. It seems like with the first version people either really loved it or really didn't, usually because of the stability. There didn't seem to be many people that were in the middle.

Glad you can enjoy these bad boys without having to sacrifice your body for the running shoe cause. Love the Nova 1 and will for sure pick these up. These are my preferred long run, aerobic run, recovery run shoe. I've taken these on a threshold run, but it felt like cheating. These shoes are straight magic. These are perfect for days when I'm trying to keep my exertion low because they do so much work with dat bounce. Once the midsole settled down, they've actually become my favorite recovery shoe because I found it has enough protection to run slow, but the bounce and relatively low weight (compared to the cushion) keep the effort on recovery days nice and low without having to force myself to slog. Love these shoes and will never not talk about them.

QD: I now own three pairs of Novablasts, including a winterized version that got me through many cold, New England long runs. I absolutely love the shoe! It is my long run shoe of choice, and because I have tender forefeet, I may even use it in a fall marathon because shoes like the Endorphin Speed and Atreyu The Artist end up pounding my forefeet in the later miles.

Bought a pair on sale and honestly thought the stack height was a little too high, I definitely noticed instability when turning corners at speed. Long story short, once they broke in I absolutely loved them. Still have a pair to this day. Great shoe overall.

QD: I use the Novablast for tempo days and threshold runs, but I didn't get to 100K yet. The drop could be lower but I guess it helps for faster efforts. I did a 22K in 4'45min/km last week to tune up for the Wings For Life World Run this sunday. Loved it. GREETINGS FROM SALZBURG/AUSTRIA!!!

I got the v1 with the Tri Noosa colour scheme and it is amazing!!! I agree, it makes running feel effortless, i always go faster than supposed with them and the bounce is such that my cadence is quite slower with them at the same pace as with other models. I hope you will compare the v2 with the v1 on the 50 miles review. Cheers!

Seth, It’s interesting you like the Mach 4 so much since it’s so stable unlike the Novablast. Mach 4 has such a deep heel counter and wide platform.

QD: I’m on my 3rd pair of Novablasts after putting nearly 900 miles on my first two. Originally used as daily trainer (which it was great at) but now use for long runs and recovery. I’m currently using lower stack height shoes (i.e. SL20.2) for daily trainers as a matter of choice.

QD: I have the original Novablast. I use it for tempo and easy days. It’s not fast enough for threshold days. Reason being, once you’re up on your toes in the shoe, it no longer does what it’s good at- bouncing. The bounce happens in the back part of the midsole. Love mid-strike easy day bopping in the shoe. 2mm added to the toe stack sounds like a great upgrade to me!

I bought the original asics novablast in tokyo orange. I really like the shoe. They are really comfortable. The ride is very responsive. I love the color. I just wished they were lighter. I'm considering buying more pairs as they are very cheap. I'm actually a happy subscriber of the Ross shoes as I've the SL20 and the novablast in my rotation.

QD: I literally just got the original novablast :) lots of good thoughts....hard to run easy in them, the midsole is just incredible...negatives - the laces (not a problem, since you can easily replace them) and the tongue - if it is not positioned correctly, the hem of it is scratching my foot...but I wouldnt dare to try and do something about it (like cut it off)...otherwise, the upper is awesome About the stability...I was very worried about it at first, since I can trip even on smooth roads...but...its not that unstable, not much more than the peg 37, which I had before...I think its more about the strength of the runner, rather than the midsole itself :)

QD: was intrigued after your reviews, and so I bought a pair of the original novablast. Unfortunately, I had some stability issues (got niggles on the inside of both knees), and had to stop using them after 40miles... So, I look forward to hearing your review on the stability elements on the second iteration!

I buyed 3 pairs and i really love Novablast 1( even at the beginning i had blisters at the hill just like you) . The only problem is that after 200-300 km the pronation of the shoes become very important

Seth: runners warehouse has the stack height at 39mm 29mm for the oG novablast. Yours is considerably lower. Same for the magic speed. Courious why such a big difference? Thanks for producing such informational videos.

There's so much about the original novablast that I didn't like (sizing being 1/4 size too big), the lacing, going around corners... However this shoe still left me with a smile on my face, it really is fun to run in, unlike say the Mach 4 which is fine but not fun. Will look to pickup novablast 2..

I bought them at a bad time, feet were beaten and the sinking cushioning made my aches worse. The changes on the 2nd version sound more promising. I'll try them out again.

Hi Seth, only ever had one pair of ASICS, around 2015 and forgot what they were, but only time I have bled in a running shoe and was on both feet on the Achilles. I must admit you enthusiasm for everything running want me to buy the Novablast 2, but still a bit weary.

Awe man! I missed out on the shoes 😔 I don't fit in any of those sizes but my Friend is a 10.5 and has been running on a warn out pare of shoes! It would've been great to give them to him as a late birthday present

QOD: Got 500+ miles in my original Novablast last year and bought a second pair in Feb and got 120+ miles in those so far. My housemate wanted a new daily trainer and I recommended them and he’s in love. I love the shoe, bouncy and fun, easy to moderate pace, get your money’s worth, and aesthetically looks great too. (Be interesting to hear your thoughts on Novablasts vs Invincible, I’ve no intention of trying the latter but I think it’s the more expensive, worse looking, not as “tweenery” shoe compared to the Novas).

QD: I actually bought the Novablast after watching a shoe review on a RU-vid channel I came across - which looked fun.... The guy was giving a review of a bunch of shoes through what he called was a "Running Shoe Matrix" and the Novablast seemed to do pretty well! I decided to buy the shoes and start watching the channel... haven't missed a Vlog since and have enjoyed looking through some of the older ones too! .. :) [The shoes are great too!]

QD: i bought the Novablast 1 and there were a couple of things i didn't like. The instability as you mentioned, which derived from the high stack height, and the collar of the shoe which hurt a bit. Using thick socks helped a bit with the later issue. I'm seeing that the collar was addressed but the instability is still there and it shows in the parts of the video where you're filming yourself running. Decreasing the drop was the right decision by Asics. Maybe down the road i'll test them out. :D
