Personally I'd stop playing the game entirely, to have 15 years of settings reset to default basically, would be brutal. Like he said, he wants it 1 to 1 to what he had before but that's basically impossible now, he has to re-learn how to play the game to a certain degree if he can't restore it.

Here is a tip for people who may struggle with keeping regular backups, create a Symbolic Link, by doing this you can move your WTF folder to any location or drive (My documents or My Games) and WoW will still see it as if it was in the original location. This prevents WoW from deleting the folder too.

It takes less than 30 seconds to make a backup of your entire UI, settings, WeakAuras, keybinds, and macros. The process can even be automated to run however often you want it. But doing any of this would take a small amount of effort, so that's probably why he never made a backup.

This isn't that uncommon with mods in some games like fallout and Skyrim, some mods I installed needed 9 support mods for it to work and some of those needed like 3 other mods for the support mod to work properly, not only that you need to load them in a specific order. I don't even want to think about re installing the 300+ mods on my fallout 4.

I've had a similar thing happen to me but with Elvui. Had every perfected to my liking using a modified version of a setup preach made in Shadowlands. I reset my pc and his setup was out of date and wouldn't let me transfer it over. Meaning I had to try to make something work from scratching together other setups and modifying them.

Asmon, I don't know if you read these, but if you have an old PC lying around somewhere, start it up and grab your WTF folder. That's the only way to certainly get the exact same settings you had for your old addons. Anything new you can then reconfigure.

This happened to me few years ago. I basically gave up on having custom bars, and just worked with what blizzard threw my way. It is what it is. If anything, it will help you cut down on some of the addon that you thought you “needed”. Good luck lol

I’ve been there before had to reinstall the game again after some issues after downloading the drivers, was a nightmare after I logged on to find all my addons setting were gone I actually almost quit the game got threw took 4-5 hours to redo 8 diff toons i was so pissed off. Ah the painful memories. One time WoW froze on me and I forced shut down my pc and it corrupted all of my addon data, of course in my ignorance I didn't have any backups. (To be fair, who the hell would expect a simple crash to brick an entire folder worth of data, how is there not automatic back ups from when you first launch the game until you successfully close the game...but alas)

Since i once crashed my Interface, which included over 30 TellMeWhen Buttons/Auras, which i programmed in a very complex way + my over 100 Buffs/Debuffs from Nameplate Auras (accumulated meticulously over years) + my Threatplates + 20 other addons - all in all AT LEAST one hundred(!) hours(!) of setting adjustment, i safe my WTF folder on Desktop ALWAYS!

That sucks. That's why it's always best to backup either one installation, or at least the Interface and WTF folders. The WTF folder is where all those configurations are stored.

You gotta have backups for you WTF folder. If an issue caused you to uninstall, the issue won't come back by putting in a saved copy of the WTF. If it does, it was an addon issue and you didn't have to uninstall. Back up your WTF folder any time before you repair or uninstall the game.

BTW guys. Copy your WTF folder. that's where your add-on settings are. every once in a while copy and paste your WTF folder to your desktop and you'll never have this problem again.

That's why I keep a back up copy of my addons folder on a flash drive. Anytime I need to reinstall the game I just plug the drive in and copy pasta it into the wow folder and bam, got all my settings that I've had since vanilla exactly how I want it. XD
