This is so nostalgic for me... My grandma sold Mary Kay. I remember staying the night at her house when I was like 8 and her teaching me how to do skin care and use masks and she’d give me those little sample cards with eyeshadow on them and those awful little sponge applicators. I’m big into makeup now and when she was really sick she watched me do my makeup one day while we were over. I heard her whisper to my mom “wow she’s really good at that” and it meant so much to me. deary diary, it's the first day of school 1984 and i've been up since 5:30 am because i'm determined to make sophomore year different, and that means showing stacey and jennifer that i'm not a total loser just because they've been wearing mascara since grade 6 and i haven't. plus, this year i REALLY want jason to notice me. last week i took all the money i saved working as a junior lifeguard at the pool - $3.35 an hour!! - and biked down to walgreens and stood in the cosmetics aisle until the girl restocking the pads asked me if i needed help. 45 minutes later i left with 12 flavors of lipsmackers, two cans of aqua net, lee's press on nails, noxzema cream, that shampoo for horses, six covergirl eyeshadows, coordinating blue mascara, two shades of mood-changing lipstick, and coverup three shades lighter than my skin for optimum concealing. her bangs were six inches tall and her eyeliner almost went all the way to her ears like siouxsie sioux so i could tell she really knew was she was talking about, except i guess i should have asked her HOW to apply all this stuff, because mom looked at me like i was a total spaz when she saw. of course she had to go and mom it all up, but, like, i GUESS it kinda looks better now. i'd totally die if she heard me say that though. gotta run. the pancakes are almost done and carson's probably on his way to pick me up already so we can hit 7-Eleven before class (mom if you're reading this I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!!!!!). i wonder if he'll notice the new look. i mean, not that i CARE if he does because we're just friends. anyway, stacey and jennifer better get ready to eat their hearts out. LATER!
