For Longclaw, you describe it as a sword "between a 1 handed and 2 handed sword" This type of sword is known as a Bastard Sword. It is actually pretty ironic considering who ended up wielding it!

Hoink Hoink You don’t need to be the size of the Mountain to use a greatsword effectively. Plenty of medieval manuscripts show normal sized people using two-handed swords as tall as they were. There are also tons of surviving greatswords from the high Middle Ages up to the late Rennaissance that were up to 6 or even 7 feet tall. They were almost certainly used by normal-sized men. Even at that length, it wouldn’t weigh more than 4 or 5 lbs which is easily manageable for any decently strong man.

Archangel980 Not true at all. Greatswords up to six feet tall were used to great effect on the battlefield up to the 17th century by normal-sized men. Greatswords arent as heavy as you’d think, weighing 6 pounds at the very top end. Ice is nowhere near that size but the blade profile is fairly wide for a sword of that type so I’d say it weighs anywhere from 4 to 5 pounds. Easily wieldable by a trained man.

John Doe I’m saying with his size he could use it more effectively than someone like Jamie or Jon he might be able to use it one handed as well while Jamie and Jon would be less mobile with a sword of That size not the weight as they were surprisingly light in weight

In the show, Dark sister is most possibly with Benjen Stark. In the books, it is still with Brynden Rivers (blood raven), but it isn't mentioned.

It is unlikely that the Baratheons have a VS sword since the royal house of Baratheon was founded during Aegon's conquest of Westeros (by elevating a general of Aegon's army from house Baratheon to lordship of the stormlands when the storm king was defeated) , 100 years after The Freehold of Valyria, and presumably the secret of Valyrian Steel was lost.

Why would Ned have brought Ice to the capital? He doesn't fight with it. He only used it for executions. So why would he have had Ice at Kingslanding?

@@JohnDoe-zh6cp it’s actually a really good question they ask. Ice was very large and wouldn’t have been practical for Ned to fight with. The Mountain could probably use it.

@@AleisterMeowley In the books it’s about 6 feet long which is a normal length for a Zweihander and maybe slightly longer than the average Montante. These were types of two-handed swords wielded historically by people who were shorter than the average modern American. Swords are not very heavy, even the big two-handed ones. They clock in around 7 lbs maximum and Valyrian steel is lighter than regular steel. Doesn’t make sense for the Starks to shell out a fortune to Valyrian smiths for an ornamental Valyrian steel sword.

@@AleisterMeowley How would it not be practical? Historical people weren’t dumb. Why would historical smiths spend hundreds of man hours crafting two-handers and fencers spend many more thousands of hours writing manuals on their use if they weren’t any good? They weren’t standard issue because spears are many times cheaper to produce. It’s like saying the KAC SR-25 is an impractical rifle because it’s not standard issue and only given to special forces.

+Sergeant_ Chris No one knows for sure who killed Robar Royce II, Ser Artys Arryn is considered one of the possibilities. But I believe Jaime Corbray more likely, since after the battle he had recovered Lady Forlorn, which Robar was wielding.

Dawn makes sense to have been from a fallen star. Meteor iron is the only significant source of pure iron in the world. Normal iron ore is contaminated with impurities that make the metal weak. To remove them you need advanced smelting technology which I think the people of westoros don't have. I think that the Valyrians had that technology though which is why Valyrian steel is so much better.

Am I the only one who realizes that show ice is a longsword... and most “greatswords” on the show are also longswords. One handed is an arming sword. Slightly longer is a bastard sword. Longsword is a larger two handed sword around 40” long. Greatsword is 7 feet tall and has a grip that can fit 4 hands but is two handed of course. We need more research when it comes to sword typology.

The Hound's Chicken A 7ft long greatsword would be very uncommon. Greatswords can be anywhere from 5 to 6 or even 7 (in some cases) and they’re moreso defined by the fact that they’re *only* intended to be used with two hands. Most longswords can be wielded in one hand if absolutely necessary.

Man, "Lady Forlorn" makes my skin crawl. Most names are too bragadocious. "Lady Forlorn" oozes dread and depression and grief. Like the wielder would always have a storm cloud following them around. I like the dimensions also. Very linear, practical. I know literally nothing about House Corbray.

The lannisters have wanted a valyrian steel sword ever since brightroar was lost and the lannisters are rich and powerful they should have bought a bunch of valyrian steel daggers and have them reforged into a sword or 2 swords and tywin wanted one bad and he already murdered 2 whole families tywin should have killed 200 maesters and take their valyrian steel links from the maester chain's and have them reforged..... or he could go to the citadel and buy their stash of valyrian steel links

It shows Ned killing Arthur Dayne with Dawn and then takes it with him to Lyanna.

I mean, the show kinda got it wrong, in the show, Dawn is shown to be a longsword, but in actuality it's a greatsword like Ice. Fun Fact, Arthur Dayne also never wielded two swords, only one.
