The Assassins were the first ones to resort to violence (Chevalier at the beginning, and Achilles when he caught Shay stealing the manuscript) And they even shot him in the back when he was about to kill himself which to me just seems like they tried to make sure that he was 100% dead and out of their way.

Apparently someone on RU-vid said the Assassins knew Shay would come steal the box. - Although the first one is unseen on the video, a figure can be seen looking out in the glowing window on the manor. It retreats when the player goes close. Presumably Achilles. - 0:18 It is faint, but you can hear the signature Assassin's whistle in the background. It's probably used as a signal for the assassins to prepare their ambush once Achilies gave them a signal. - 0:42 You can hear a door faintly creak and close. Its probably said Achilies, as in the cutscene, Achilles enters the room and catches Shay in the act. Otherwise, it's very cool details about the assassins. Achilles' philosophy was actually more in line with the Templars than Shay's. Shay: "We don't have the right to decide that future!" Achilles: "The right? We have the responsibility!" Every other chapter of the assassins placed freedom above all else, while the Templars sought to control the masses by making decisions on their behalf. Ubisoft may claim that Shay is a Templar, but in reality, he's not; Achilles was the Templar, and Shay was the last true Assassin in the chapter.

The game was created by a multicultural team of various religious beliefs, and the sole intent of Assassin's Creed was to be culturally diverse as possible. He did what he thought was right. I had wish things were different but we don't get to choose what happens to us, all we can do is what we do about it. Being devastated about your family and your group is no excuse to put thousands at risk. Once Shay told him about the earthquake, he immediately dismissed any possibility that he was in the wrong and blamed Shay for it, saying that it was 'delicate'. Achilles wasn't meant to be a leader. He led the Colonial Brotherhood down a path of corruption that did everything they claimed the Templars were doing. He brought everything on himself and while I do feel sorry for him about his family, he gets no other sympathy from me. If he wasn't so arrogant, everyone Shay had to kill would probably still be alive at the end of the game.

Now the Assassins learned in practice what "never compromise the brotherhood" stood for. Achillies was an undeserving mentor, thought and acted as a Templar and thus weakened the Assassins from the inside. Shay was a consequence of his arrogance. And when he finally regains his senses, got wiser, and re-studied and rediscoveried the Creed, Connor would rise. Connor is Achilles's Redemption and the embodiment of the honor once thought to have been lost. While Shay became heartless, sunk within the Templar's hipocrisy blindly following it as they wanted humanity to do so.

They tried so hard to make the Assassins look like villains in this game, badly too. Poisoning the city? Taking hostages? Narrative of such a point of view is pretty subjective from a group that had a ageless reputation of barbarism as the Templars did... The whole games vents was focalized on impulsiveness and naivety of shay, and a vast web of grievous misunderstandings that spiraled out of control. I would have liked to seen him get clipped by Arno as an old man.
@sandr6769
@sandr6769 5 лет назад
Shay was seen as promising, yet inexperienced and unworthy of trust by the Assassins, you can clearly see that. Yet he was sent alone on vital mission to retrieve the artefact, which I presume could be a test to earn trust and jump higher in the ranks. Instead, he gets back from a crumbling city without the artifact, all shouting and yelling at his mentor. So, in Achilles eyes it must have been like "This kid screwed something up, he had to. He is reckless and arrogant, right? And this bullshit about killing innocent, he must be making up excuses". It was easy to put blame on Shay, as he was the only one who went for the artifact and wasn't really trusted by Assassins, god knows why. And what Hope and Liam could do? If the mentor claims something, it must be how it is. Shay was in a lost position imo since escaping Lisbon. AC Rogue shows the other side of the coin and it provides necessary narration wthin the Lore. That Assassins do have flaws and in a certain set of circumstances can be as villanous as the Templars.

Wow, i happened to read your comment ages after the publishing of this video, but god finally someone who sees things as I do. I do think that Shay was ok to react like that, after all he is traumatized by the events in Lisbon. But hell yeah, writers have done a heavy and clumbsy job to demonize the Assassins. It is interesting though. In my opinion they should have had much more time to write a much longer story.

In the colonial/revolution/democracy period from 1500 to 1800, the Assassins and Templars really showed just how jaded and misguided they were in trying to build a new world. The Templar’s under Haytham became more cruel, arrogant, and brutal but still trying to be sincere. Achilles’ Assassins had become prideful, dangerous, and too irrational, but still wanted to protect and serve. Even Arno in Paris saw what Bellec and Germain saw: both orders were becoming complacent and blind to the world tearing itself apart. Even Aveline and Connor saw their home become a battlefield for chaos. They did their best to secure some semblance of peace even if they barely attained it for themselves. That’s what made Abstergo and the present Assassins what they are. They’re the descendants of those who lost out on their past and made similar mistakes and sins. I think that’s why I stepped away from AC for the past 5 years. Ubisoft gave a really good story with this time period and after that....they just dropped the ball. Odyssey was flawed from the ground up, Syndicate was just a parody that pissed off a lot of fans (that Desmond joke was in poor taste), and the lore and canon was still all over the place. I got so tired of the series, the fandom, and the company that I had left it....until now.

A lot of complications lead to Shay's defect honestly, Achilles is a vet who understands only that the Templars are the enemy and probably for awhile hasn't seen a "good side" to them at all given his background and instead of listening to Shay's tries to take argue that the order would do worse with the tools. Shay at he moment is young and inexperienced yet is the first to see first hand what the artifact could do (I think my lore is pretty rusty) however don't blame Achilles to much Shay again since he's still new let's his ire get to him instead of try to calm down (it's an understandble anger though given Shay is of the faith and literally just caused Innocents o die
