I think the high centre of the nose, and front wing flaps is being very clever, using almost a ground effect for downforce, but keeping the critical smooth fast air to scoop this cleanly under the nose, but a groundforce effect to pull the nose down. This gives a consistent unimpeded airflow under the suspension and directly under the main floor. And the cleaner the direct airflow from under the front wing to the floor means the underfloor venturi's will work more efficiently and harder. I think the sharkfins ontop the sidepods venting hot, less dense air means their is in effect less heavy dense air for the ground effect to pull against, again making the venturi's work much more effectively in generating downforce. The deep aero undercut is pulling cold dense air into it, and channelling that away from the sidepods hot air stream along with activating the rear floor downforce. I think its so clever using almost 2 separate aero systems at once, and the groundeffect boost could be a huge jump on the rest.

@patrickr4762
@patrickr4762 2 года назад
I read somewhere that some teams have a separate team just to analyze other teams concepts. Once they spot one concept they immediately try it out in CFDs. During the Schumi era some teams have dedicated photographers just to take spy shots from rivals, or they pay extra for the other photographers.
@Lukas-ye4rg
@Lukas-ye4rg 2 года назад
I imagine they wont do it much as you have to provide proof that you actually thought of he design yourself. Aston Martin/Racing Point got a hefty fine for being „inspired“ by MBs car back in 2020. I imagine theyll analyse it but its not a lot they can do about it really. Also those designs are part of a whole design philosophy- you couldnt just bolt a merc frontwing onto a RB and expect it to have the same performance.
@sultanofswingdrift3021
@sultanofswingdrift3021 2 года назад
This season really limits how copying front-runner teams can do, because they are limited in wind tunnel times and CFD analysis ran. This is why there might be a team or two that makes a huge jump in the ranks.

Especially with the massive rules overhaul, it is refreshing to see such minute and precise explanation of what the teams are doing. Great analysis Kyle. Love this stuff. I'm an aircraft engineer and have a very good understanding of aerodynamics. The one thing I have always wanted to ask someone like you is regarding turning vanes/vortices/vortex generators. When on an F1 car is it a turning vane (knowing you will always get tumbling airflow) and when is it a vortex generator? As in when do you steer the air and when/why would you just create a vortex/vortices? Thanks, Simon, Christchurch, New Zealand.
