Hey there, would you be able to make a video on how to replace the keyboard for the ASUS ROG Strix GL703VD? My down arrow broke off of the bracket. I may be able to just replace the single key, however I might end up replacing the entire keyboard at some point since the cheapest option is purchasing an entire new backlit keyboard (rather than purchasing one single key for $10 I can have an entire replacement set for around $50). It would help me out so much! Thanks for your videos, these have been very helpful.

Hi. Very well done! I have an off-topic question but I think you could help me. I have a customers Asus ROG strix 2020 that Im supposed to remove the bios password lock. Their kid set it and doesnt remember. They updated the bios in the past so the alt-r recovery doesnt work. It turns on and wants password. No boot options, no uefi, no bios setting screen, just password. Any ideas? I'm considering replacing the smd bios chip. Would that even work? I hate just throwing money at a problem. Thanks.

yes when removing it the black paper or the old keyboard doesn't matter how it comes out as long as you remove it, just place the new keyboard without damaging the black protection. and if you can't use the space bar from old keyboard get a bit of 3d printer filament (PETG)

@uFixTek
@uFixTek 3 года назад
PC for gaming its always the best if you have the space and time to use in one place, gaming laptops designed the way to make it hard to one to be able to replace parts or upgrade or service. and they are designed to fail after the limited time warranty , they have come up with their own section for durability and longevity, so they can sell extended warranty and or have people comeback to them for service. the laptop industry is no longer as good as before, where they had one mission one option! make them the best and last longer and upgradable! now its the war between them the war of who can sell the most and benefit the most from (extended warranty and service), *DLC. and they are attacking poor people and rich people, there is no best laptop out there, dont take me wrong, by saying best! by best i don't mean the best cpu or ram or GPU power. the best as in durability 0% marketing and so called DEFECTIVE HEATSINK, there was no defective heat sink back in old times where we had less knowledge of cnc machines, i can keep going on but as a tech service view i can say that there is no best laptop! Thank you for the feed back and support to the channel :) good luck

@@uFixTek I've had this laptop for about 6 years now and I've upgraded the very easiest parts I could, replaced thermal paste, and cleaned it regularly and properly. Recently I've been having what seems to be overheating issues, with no over clocking, fans not broken, proper thermal paste application. I think the heat sink failure you speak of is interesting, I'm not a technician or anything but it seems that it's causing issues I've never had before up until about half a year ago. I'd be interested to find good resources online to learn more about these things and "go down the rabbit hole" on these subjects if you have any suggestions. Thanks and any info is much appreciated!

Oh boy. Used this for replacing the keyboard on the GL504 as it's constructed about the same. Had no idea they used plastic rivots 'til I got down to that plate. My GL504 has been a nightmare. GPU fan failed completely within the first 9 months, and it took 4 trips to their repair department before they replaced the system altogether. A CPU fan died in the replacement system shortly after the warranty ran out, so I replaced that. Now, the GPU fan will randomly spin up to maximum (6400 RPM) without a way to control it and I've lost functionality of some keys. It's not sold anymore, but wow this model had problems.

Thanks for this comment! My GL504 has randomly decided it wouldn't register 9 of the keys on its keyboard anymore (including Enter), so I was looking for some tips on how exactly the repair looks like since I've heard it's kind of a nightmare, thanks to the video and your comment I roughly know what to expect now. As for other problems with my laptop, the minijack gave up in the first 2 years of its life (I had the main board replaced under warranty) and the usb ports aren't always working correctly with connected devices (fortunately changing the port usually solves the issue). No problems with fans though, apart from occasional loudness which is typical for this model I suppose. I went for ROG to avoid poor quality problems in the future, ha ha. I hope their newer models are less prone to defects...

okay before anything i need to know if you remove the rubber dome, and when you press or touch with your finger tip the key does work and shows the letter on the txt file, if so then your membrane is fine, and then you can just replace the rubber dome, but your rubber dome looks fine in the on that shot. you will need to place a very small amount of glue on the outer shell and place it in the center and let it dry for few hours and it should work fine, we do repair then often, but make sure your membrane is working and responding to touch.

okay 1st of all dont ever listen to asus or hp or any tech support they dont know SH***T. there is an issue with windows 10 updates and chip xg2, but there is a solution, you need to install windows 10 without the internet connection and use a 2nd computer to download and follow the steps: Here's a few steps to how you can get it working: 1. DOWNLOAD and INSTALL the latest Thunderbolt 3 firmware from the XG Station 2 support page. 2. DOWNLOAD and INSTALL the Nvidia Driver provided on the XG Station 2 support page. 3. DOWNLOAD and INSTALL the ROG XG Station Hot Plug tool from the XG Station 2 support page. IMPORTANT NOTE: Download these drivers using a second computer, and make sure your laptop is never connected to the internet, this will cause Windows10 to automatically update the driver. Install these programs while your laptop remains offline. 4. A few restarts, and everything should be in working order. It is now safe to connect to the internet. The GL502VM does fully support Thunderbolt 3 with 40Gbps

Well, the crucial part of this video is missing and without it, it's the highest level of BS, yet, it still helped me fix my son's laptop. The crucial part, that he conveniently skips over, is the re-mounting of the keyboard. As the case is made of ABS he suggests melting an 'ABS rod', available from hardware stores, with your soldering iron, drip the molten plastic on the posts, and he says it will be good as new. It won't be. The 'rod' he speaks of is most likely ABS filament for 3D printers. It's really cheap and you can get it at many stores. However, the temperature range between melting and burning ABS is tight, and unless you have a soldering iron with controlled temperature you will burn it. Even then, the molten ABS will not stick to the solid one, unless the solid one is preheated to between 105C and 110C. (Look up the necessary bed temperature used by 3D printers for ABS). So don't even try. Use J-B WELD High Strength Plastic Bonder. It is formulated to work with ABS. You will have to make sure you clamp the keyboard and the ABS housing tight together, so they don't move relative to each other. I used skewer sticks underneath, between the rows of keys, and used small pieces of wood as levers and small wooden blocks as supports with carpenter clamps to press and hold them together.

Awesome idea, good options and thank you for the feedback, this video is an old video, on the new videos i have mentioned using the ABS filament for 3D printers, or the best and free ABS plastic is to rip a key (space bar) from the old keyboard and use it to melt on the plate, and i use a soldering iron and set to 380C but once you start melting the plastic as you say i push down the new plastic with soldering iron to the old one so it mixes, it works like a charm all the time, i had zero issue with my clients and i do replace a lot of mesh keyboards weekly, just use the space bar from bad keyboard. but again as you mentioned if people have time and know how to mix glue and wont make a mess sure thing glue that, but if in the future you want to replace the keyboard... well good luck removing the glue :P again much appreciate the feedback. here is a video i made a very quick run down of the how to : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m3zuNBASGCY.html here is another video newer that i show the steps check @16:30 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xsg-Zn80hZQ.html

@@uFixTek Oh, OK, I have searched for the model number of the laptop and this came up, so I was not aware of your newer videos. I tried to melt ABS and fuse it onto the posts but my soldering iron has high and low settings only, so I could not control the temperature and although they looked OK the new heads I made popped off way too easily. Cured epoxy can be removed, however most likely you would have to use solvents as well and not just chisel it off. I'm sorry if my review sounded too negative, I got suspicious something was amiss because you skipped the remounting steps in the video. Having said that, your video still saved us a lot of time and money. Thank you!
