I don't think it's just about the conversation, it's the possibility of conflict. I am a follower of Milena (and a few other christian influencers) and what I find fascinating is their desire for peace and harmony. On some level most of us strife for peace in our lives, but only few go so far as to avoid anything that could possibly lead to a disagreement, let alone an argument. And if you whatch Milena's videos, she talks about that one of her biggest struggles in life were the first years of marriage when she "wouldn't submit or tame her tongue" (her words). Watching Milena's videos, she seems more at peace now. And this is the danger of the conservative movement: it provides you with a sense of peace. That is because the religious model makes it miserable. My marriage wasn't great until I got out of religion. Now our marriage is great and not at all miserable, far from it.
Im a catholic woman and was with a « traditional » guy during two months this year. It was my worst dating experience. He put so much pressure on me and made us fall into the sin-repent-sin-repent cycle. I did not have any kind of shame related to intimacy before him. Staying with him would have meant that I would have had to abandon my voice, my individuality, would have had to basically sacrifice my heart and my soul. There’s so much repression in these relationships. The woman is meant to disappear and to be silent (praying lol). Sometimes I think these people are not mature, have no experiences outside of church, don’t have a real identity outside of Christ and they force themselves into these relationships with all these rules. They are afraid of themselves, repress things. Their white interior shows an absence of personality and a will to constantly appear as white doves. Now I see that as highly suspicious. I would prefer to remain alone with a bunch of birds than getting married with these parameters.

“Don’t have a real identity outside of Christ” THIS. Even I struggled with my identity after going through a deconstruction in my beliefs, I was constantly surpressing my opinions, inclinations, emotions, desires, etc for the sake of “being more like Christ”. I had no opinion unless it aligned with that. It was all boring, dating similar people was boring. I had to find myself again after years of repressing my personality, I’m still on that journey but I already feel the happiest I have ever felt being able to be myself as opposed to trying to mask/hide and be like someone else.

Ex Christian here who is also aroace. Everything spoken by the Christian couple is what I heard in the church. The pressure placed on women in every aspect over men was extremely common. As a minor, abstinence and purity was manditory because that should be reserved for your husband. Women were expected to do everything in a relationship. Some men would yell at women who chose to speak to them first because women are only meant to speak when spoken to in the presence of a man. This video is tame in comparison to what I have witnessed.

On a practical note: If you ever do think about coming out when you go to college I would weigh how much financial support you get from your parents, the potential of them withdrawing that support, how much that would affect you, and if that’s worth being able to openly do as you please. Even in college I have friends who really rely on their parents and they would be devastated if that support was withdrawn but I also have friends who would be fine without it.

He's basically just saying that praying for your wife and family is something that bonds you together since you share the faith and love in God. He never said he expects her to pray for him or anything like that. There's much effort put into teaching people how to be good, rule following Christians (their version of what being a Christian means, which can vary from church to church). I'm an athiest and so is my wife. We haven't been 'physically intimate' beyond hugging or the occasional kiss in 13 YEARS (we've been married 15 and I've known her for 20) and we have an AMAZING relationship. I'm asexual and didn't really figure that out until we'd been married for a bit but once I realized that I didn't /have to/ be sexually intimate with her or anyone else in order to maintain my relationship it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders and I could finally just relax. It was wonderful. Sometimes she talks about wanting to find someone (we're poly and open) to be sexual with and I always encourage that but she's never, ever pressured me or even spoken suggestively about sex to me since we sat down and talked it through 13 years ago. I like to call our relationship "Platonic Romantic" because we're best friends who love each other but we're not what most people think of when they think of a married couple. I get super weird looks if I try explaining it to someone but I wouldn't have it any other way and I've never been happier or more at peace with anyone than I am with her.

The part that got me was when they talked about him taking the kids out. She said that she can do the dishes in quiet when he does that. He THEN said that when he does that, she can put her feet up for an hour. What happened to that first tip of listening to her? I am a devout Christian, but I really appreciated watching this and looking at how traditional norms can sometimes be harmful. It's good for me to expose myself to the ideas of people who are not religious. Thanks for reminding me of yet another way my life is way better as an atheist! My husband and I spent the first half of our marriage as cringy as these people, and are so much happier now that we are both atheist, we make excellent partners, exploring forbidden things like opening our marriage, sharing housework (gasp!), and having equal value, and are not forced to live a nauseating cookie-cutter existence that was preached to us every week.

In my marriage, I'm the one who usually gets tired first. My partner likes to stay up late and game or build lego sets when he has the opportunity. I think its important to say too that "Notice the little things" is gonna vary within any relationship, if your partner is autistic for example (like me) theres a chance they might miss some things and you can't hold that against them every time. You can ask that they try to improve (within reason), and you can be affected by it and say that, but being poor at noticing social queues can be an actual diagnosis, and theres only so much you can do at times. I think "Noticing" or "being observant" isn't the best phrasing, I'd probably say "Being mindful and receptive". You want to stay aware of how they are being affected by things you do, or things that happen, to the best of your ability.

About that going to bed at the same time thing: I've been in a relationship for 15.5 years and married for almost a year now, and my husband and I almost never sleep in the same bed (maybe like 10 times per year). First of all, we have completely different sleeping cycles, with me going to bed way earlier and also getting up at like 5 to 5:30 am every morning. And second of all, I hate sharing my bed, even with my spouse. We still have a strong and stable marriage.

This is doubly contradictory if these same people believe that men are "just naturally more aggressive then women") Further, further, if all you can protect your wife from is other men, then what's the supposed "value" in men being stronger then women? These kind of people always like to frame it as "its men's natural/god-given duty to protect their wives" but if your strength is to enable you to fight off other men, then why would god make men in general stronger?! The strength disparity really only makes sense to me, from a naturalistic perspective, for one of two reasons: one: it was a random mutation and therefore there is no reason/value in it or two: it was because greater strength enabled men to subjugate women as baby factories...which is a _bad_ thing for the record! In reality, it was probably a combination of those two reasons. Either way I always come back to the same conclusion: Men being naturally stronger then women is _not_ the solution, its the _problem._ Force femme men, let's go! (for legal purposes, this is a joke, but also feminine men are hot)

Also, plenty of scriptures support a sexist take if you pick the right ones, just like plenty of scriptures support an egalitarian viewpoint. I think it’s smart of them to appeal to common sense and research about healthy relationships rather than using more scripture. All someone has to do is claim they picked the wrong verses to defend themselves. Also, their video appeals to a much wider audience because, *gasp*, a lot of their audience doesn’t care whether the Bible supports this shitty Christian relationship advice; they just care that certain Christians are going off the deep end.
What Drew said about the advice for Christian men being more fitting for adolescent boys...dang. Or should I say BINGO. Looking at the men from my parents' evangelical church, many of whom in the older crowd (including my dad) have outlived their wives (which is otherwise a cultural anomaly), it seems like they're actively encouraged to remain in a sort of Peter Pan la-la land in terms of what they're expected to contribute to a relationship. Like they're the pueri aeterni and indulged child-kings of the household.
Despite the problematic nature of their video there was one cute moment where they cut the video several times immediately after he said the "chaining you to the bed" slip up and I suspect there were a lot of BDSM jokes and flirting that got cut after that. 😂
I don’t understand why Christians and Muslims don’t like one another, they are basically the same thing. But, it gives me hope knowing women and queers have more right among Christian majority countries, hopefully it will soon be the case in Islamic countries! Of ourse the best scenario be a religion free society but that’s just too hopeful.

So he doesn't interrogate in the slightest why he believes that men are intrinsically incapable or stunted in this regard. Thus his advice has absolutely nothing to do with actual empathy; its all about surface level aesthetic and materialistic things, like noticing her new haircut or new clothes. But perhaps if he keeps going, he'll begin to interrogate why he believes these things, and why the religious systems he is within WANT him to believe these things. Why do they care so little about his development into a well-adjusted, balanced and emotionally healthy adult human being?
i think another reason the first tip is weird for them is because in traditional christianity you just take a partner just because you’re told you have to, not because you love the person. it’s like their tips are what you would tell a elementary kid who believes in cooties lol

I find it so strange that for every single “tip” she mentions some sort of sexual advantage or favor. It’s like she can’t comprehend that a man might want to do anything at all for his relationship unless it directly relates to a sexual benefit for him. Can I just say, your channel is a breath of fresh air. I’ve deconstructed myself not as much from christianity, but from New Age dogma (which is similar). now as an agnostic, I really appreciate and stand by logic, critical thinking, progressive values, tolerance, embracing feminism, disestablishment of colonialism and harmful patriarchal beliefs, etc. This rhetoric they are pushing is so harmful, and I see it everywhere. But channels like yours really give me hope in humanity ❤
My soon to be ex husband frequently used Christianity as a way to control me. He even forced me to go to Christian marriage counseling then stormed out when the pastor agreed with something I said. He forced me to get saved & said I was sinning by leaving him when he abused me. It was awful & im an atheist now
