This was like a FATE in modern ffxiv. It would sometimes spawn a bunch of void sent which after you defeated would result in you getting a ton of GC seals depending on your contributions. Back in 1.0 gc seals were actually a big deal and alot of the gear you could get from them were pre raid bis for some classes. You could also make ALOT of gil with gc seals. I remember i made about 3 million gil just doing this event whenever it triggered.
