So now I know the ONLY reason I did not encounter this bug is because I studied with the Fly with Magnar videos before the ATR came out and operated it by the book. I don't know why aircraft like this don't come with manuals I am sure there are plenty of people in the community that could help making manuals.
Thanks for this. Seems like most of the so called "bugs" eg throttle idle, fmc freezing are due to the fact that people don't understand the systems. This is due to the lack of tutorials/manuals. Reaction to the ATR seems to be overblown
wow such a simple process , yet so much tribble for the user as you correctly say due to the lack of documents , I thank you for this excellent information this has solved so many headaches for me , now I can start to use the product and enjoy it, a massive thank you to you Sir bravo . great work as always 🙂
Great video. I've yet to do a hop that involved inputting airways and I've still had some cases where the FMC freezes regardless. Also noticing the Copilot FMC and instruments are unusable to a degree as well. Great aircraft. just needs a couple of updates to iron out some small bugs.
Hate to say it but I've been entering my flightplans like this almost every flight and the (right) MCDU has frozen every time ☹ I also had it freeze a couple of times during PERF INIT before any flightplan entry.
The right FMC works perfectly but only when loading on the runway with engines running. Clearly an initialization issue that needs to be fixed for cold start state.
The only issue I had with manual data entry, if the flight plan is VERY long...you end up using up all the space available in the FMS, regarding input lines. Hard to explain, I could insert there a flight plan here for you. I solved the issue anyway...your press TEMP on the right hand side, then your CLEAR on the left...then you'll get more input lines again :)
Awesome with such a fast update. Hopefully a fix can be done to the ATR soon so it won't freeze any longer. Usually some 'monkey chaos' testing is done, so surprised something like that didn't catch this one.
There is no fix needed, but "knowledge". Just handle the FMS like it is wanted to be. You won't tell BMW to change their manual shift to the point that you just can keep going on full throttle to 200 km/h... 😜
@@MtheHell I can guarantee you that BMW will test wherever they have a driver to change input on their screens that it can handle invalid usage or data.
@@MtheHell Does the FMC completely freeze up in the real ATR if you enter Airways in this way? I suspect not. Incorrect input should result in an error being displayed, not in a complete freeze of the FMC... Therefore this does require a fix.
Then my question is, how is the real fmc reacting to the wrong input and why is ours not throwing any error msg.... I hope, Hans is on it and there will be some good updates. BTW, i managed to have engine 2 being stuck in hotel mode twice and was not able to get it out of that mode again ... Even with shutting down E2 completely. Over all this is a very enjoyable aircraft. !!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful as always. I couldn't find this way either. I had to restart the game multiple times. I was no longer entering the airway, I was entering the waypoint directly. 🙂
I've had complete FMC freeze on 3/5 flights. I did not attempt to input airways on any of these. User error may account for some of the issues, but on at least one of the incidents i was following your tutorial flight to the letter... and still had full FMC freeze.... This particular freeze you documented may be a reproducible way of causing FMC freeze - and as such probably relatively easy for the developer to fix... but it certainly isnt true to say "don't do this and the FMC will not freeze"
Great video! I also found that FMC becomes glitchy when you import flightplan from Simbrief (instead of entering it manually). With imported flightplan, it won't let you change any arrival data, such as approach. The only way to fix that would be to manually create a new flightplan while in flight. I now enter flightplans manually, which is OK since routes for this aircraft are usually short and it doesn't take long to enter. One thing that this aircraft still lacks is ability to enter coordinates or create user-defined waypoints, airports, arrivals, etc. (a bare minimum would be entering coordinates). I fly it in the area where Navigraph only has charts for major airports, small ones aren't even present in its DB. There are PDF charts available elseware, but I cannot use them because custom waypoints are not implemented in this model.

If they had included a freaking manual for people to follow the correct procedures, that would have been a much smaller problem. I guarantee it is not a problem specific to flight sim. I'm a computer engineer. Most developers hate doing docs, I myself don't enjoy it too. Management also hates it, most sees it as wasted time that would have been better spent on fixing bugs or adding new shiny features. But it is such an essential thing. You can have a fine system completely burned because of the lack of documentation. Also it needs to be quick to find things. So, while videos are cool, they don't quite cut it. We need WRITTEN docs.
PERFECT, thank you so much. I just did it the way "not to" and my plane hung.🙂 Do you also know about the Prop Brake? I can't turn it off 🙂I taxi on Engine 1 with Engine 2 in hotel mode. Then on the taxiway I will turn off the prop brake, but that is not possible for me 🙂
Since the last update the whole cockpit freezes when entering an approach transition into the MCDU even when selecting from the list. There are also other bugs that have come from the latest update but this one in particular makes it unusable

I typed the airway in the airway box and had 0 issues of FMC getting stuck. But I guess its different for all people. The aircraft has so many minor small irritating bugs like a mosquito.
Ah ok that's explains the odd behavior I have had with airways. I don't get freezing but I do get repeated loading of the same airway. Simbrief also has a profile now for the downloader.
I've had another issue using the digital checklist when going through the icing procedures or just poking around in the option tab for non-routine checklists.
A thousand thanks! I have been unfairly critical of this plane. The FMS ain't so broken, it's just unusable without a manual or somebody figuring it out by trial and error. So I still down-vote this plane, but at least I can use it better now. Thanks again.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO , TUTORIALS ETC There's a bug with the Asono ATR FMC , if by any chance you try to change or modify the flight plan ( as you can do in Fenix Airbus for example) it gets freeze. Freeze all displays or interacción with the ATr and there's no other way that goong out of the sim and start everything again with a New fly ☹️ bugs bugs and more bugs😢
Mmh, I did quite some modifications to flight plans so far, never had a freeze with it. But do report it to the devs please, they're working on updates.
I tried importing flight plan from Simbrief, sort of works but not really. I was unable changing SID and STAR after importing. It's ok if there's no changes, but it's highly likely weather conditions have changed before you're at TOD. Anyway, I like programming FMS ! I hope Aviaworx will create a client, so I can use my iPad, like I do for MD82, CRJ and 737 series
But how do you prevent the right FMC from being stuck on the first page you select. I was disappointed that you never touched the right FMC to notice this. Otherwise though, very nice tutorial playlist for the aircraft and the method mentioned here does work for me.
If you spawn on the runway the F/O's FMC works fine. Then you can slew or warp to the gate and shut down to simulate cold and dark startup. Clearly something to be fixed in a patch.
What procedure do you do when you don't know your arrival info or the arrival changes compared to what you programmed initially? I can't seem to find a video on how to change that.
It works, but for me it bugged out and left out the areival airport so no arrival was selectable. When I tried to enter the arrival waypoints the sim just crashed.
Another great video. Could you enlighten us how to alter destination runways and approaches mid flight? Simbrief has just added the ATR to the Simbrief Downloader so I imported a previous flight directly into the FMC/MCDU and so far it's worked flawlessly. However, the weather is different, since it's an old flightplan and I wanted to test the import ability, but I am not able to change destination runway/approach. Would I create a whole new flightplan? Please help.

Any recommendation for takeoff/landing with a crosswind on this bird? not sure if it was your page that mentioned the MSFS bug (rudder becoming momentarily ineffective when your nosewheel is in the air but mains on the ground). Either way this causes issues when trying to takeoff or land with a significant crosswind since correcting with the rudder is impossible once your nosewheel lifts. Any workaround for this?
Never ran into that, had a 19 knot cross departure my last flight in it. Are you keeping the yaw damper off until you are coming or do you engage it on the ground? Another thing with the ATR, it requires you yoke into the wind pretty good to counter a lot of the effects when you rotate. Without that you will be tossed like a toy
No matter how much testing you do, the first end users are going to find a bug and crash the system. They're switching on self-service checkouts at my work next week, and we all know how the first day is probably going to turn out... (luckily, I'm on annual leave next week!)
Hi, I have some issues like: Engine are sometimes not starting up. While switching on std altimeter, the aircraft is always levelling off 200ft below the selected level. Any idea ?? Thank you !
Re your second point about altitude, set the baro to the standard 1013/29.92 rather than pushing the STD button and you'll find the altitude is spot on/VNAV ALT is captured correctly captured. I assume it's a bug rather an another ATR quirk.
@@A330Driver It looks to work turning the knob to set 1013/2992 instead of pushing or using B, Evo was right. For engines its seems that clicking on cold&dark before every flight on the EFB fix the problem. Thank you !
this is why i am a big advocate for devs to to include complete "noobs" as it were, to the beta testing program .. i think they could be just as usefull as subject experts like yourself because they represent probably 70% of the consumer base of the product ... they may be pressing things in totally wrong orders etc.... but it will bring to the surface small bugs just like this
