Thank you for your video. I am attaching braided loops to my line today and did not like the super glue option. Your method is a more natural method.

Really like like idea, some folks use super glue but I noticed that the fly line starts to break and crack. I could see how this idea would be tops. Well, in Barbel season here in Spain, poor mans bonefish on a dry!!! Thx so much!!! And hope some great fishing comes your way.

Thanks! Agreed, the glue seems to break down the line. Best of luck in Spain!

Similar to how we did it way back in the late 1970's, when braided loops didn't come with tubing. I think the manufacturer was "Sue Burgess" or something similar - I remember they were manufactured in England. I don't remember what the instructions for permanent attachment were, but what we did was work the flyline up as close to the loop as possible; hopefully into the section fed back into the braid as well. Then one very small little section ( about 1/16") of whipping the braid on the fly line, working a tiny little dab of Pliobond into the whipping before pulling it all tight down on the braid over the fly line end. Resulting in the loop being as close to the end of the fly line as possible, cutting off the majority of the braid strands as close as possible to the whipping after the Pliobond dried. The new tube fixtures are better/easier in my opinion, whether you want your flyline tag end as close as possible to the loop in the braid, or you want a long transition section of braid over flyline before the loop. The only change I make is I think the supplied tubing is about three times as long as they need to be if you're fixing them in place with glue. I pull the tubes off the braided loops, cut them down to the length I think is sufficient, pass a piece of heavy mono/leader through the cut down tube, pass through the loop of the braided loop and then back through the tube, and then use the mono to pull the loop of the braid through the tube again. Then you're set up to install the braid with a much smaller section of tube to it where you want it. When you fix the braid in place by pulling the tubing over a small tiny spot of LePage Plastic Adhesive... the only way it is going to come off is if you cut it off. And the flexible plastic adhesive isn't going to crack or fail over time. Some of those Sue Burgess leaders installed back in the 1970's on flylines I rarely use and so haven't worn out yet, are still in place, still secure, and still functional 40+ years later.

Of all the other videos I've seen on braided loop tying... this is my favorit. I will use this definitely! Thanks very much for the info! Awesome video!

Silver Bow Fly Shop ... actually I stayed up last night and did all kinds of ties... kept ripping the 5lbs test line and had to move up to 6lbs I found that overdoing the wraps will weaken the knot ... so my magic number is 4 wraps for the nail knot ... looks almost undetectable. Hope this input helps others. Thanks once again!!

Thanks Steve! I will have to play with the amount of wraps as well. Good to know!

Thanks for the video man! cleared up a question I had about the whole process. Do you think it would be beneficial to keep the shrink wrap by sliding in all the up close to the point where the braid overlaps itself and heat shrink it there? Added security? Just thinking out loud!
@silverbowflyshop
@silverbowflyshop 8 лет назад
+Ulygan Good question, I think if you had a gap between where the fly line meets the point where the braid overlaps itself it could reduce any hinging there. I don't think it would add any security though.

I used Rio braided loop and when I cast my 7 ft sink tip leader and streamer, the whole works sailed out into the river, gone forever. Last time I used those.

I know a guy who didn't tie his fly on properly. First cast and that expensive Double Bunny sailed out in the river, gone forever. Last time he went fishing. One thing about any kind of fishing: you have to learn to tie and rig your gear up properly.

@@oldairbornedog1735 the difference being that a Rio braided loop tightens itself and is supposed to be permanently attached to the leader line. You don't tie anything. It constricts to grip the leader.

do you think a uni knot would work? Super helpful video by the way!
@silverbowflyshop
@silverbowflyshop 8 лет назад
+Ian Mactavish Sorry missed your question. I think a uni knot could potentially be an okay substitute for the nail knot. I would have to play around with it though and see if it locks the braid down to the fly line the same.

Hello like to get the nail knot too? You like it better then glue? Or this only for braided loops only? What brand you recommend?? Thank you Johnny.

Great video. I was wondering, has anyone had problems with the end of their line sinking when using these? My line is a little older but it's still in good shape. I used these over the weekend and noticed that the tip of the line kept sinking...
@silverbowflyshop
@silverbowflyshop 9 лет назад
gfxcaliber yes, that can certainly happen since the braid will soak up water. Treating the loop with a floatant occasionally will be one of the best solutions. Unfortunately it's one of the problems that plagues almost all floating lines.

What braided loops you recommend? Thanks a lot jb.

I know this an older video, but I must ask. Do the braided loops effect flotation or cast? I’ve always used a needle knot but loops seem so much more simple

Hi Ian Mactavish - sorry can't reply to your comment for some reason. thank for the comment. Haven't tried a uni knot but I think that could work well too since it is very similar

Sweet! Super helpful. I had this guide tell me that braided loops put a hinge in your cast but it doesn't really seem like it would to me. what do you think? also I want to put one on my sink tip line. it wont disrupt how fast the line sinks will it? thank you
@silverbowflyshop
@silverbowflyshop 9 лет назад
I've used them on everything from spey lines to sink-tips, to trout and tarpon... work fine for me, no hinging! They will be just fine on sink-tips, I have most of my sink-tips for my spey stuff rigged with them. Glad the video helped!

Interesting technique. I’m just curious why you didn’t tie the second knot, first? It seems it would be easier with regard to the nail knot tool.

No particular reason I did it in that sequence. Either way I think is good.

i have got some for these will these take carp on the fly and not break? thanks Matt
@silverbowflyshop
@silverbowflyshop 8 лет назад
+superhunter992 Hi Matt - yes, they should work on carp as long as they are installed securely. I would definitely recommend applying a little Zap-A-Gap to the piece of the braid where the loop is pulled back inside as well. Most loops already come with a little drop already but just double check that there is some there on that connection.
@superhunter992
@superhunter992 8 лет назад
right thanks for that i will do, got a bream the other day and a good fight for a 3 pounder cannot wait to get a carp on it will be a lot better than using a heavy lead rig . Cheers Matt

superhunter992 Right on, sounds like a great bream. Good luck and hope that works for you.

why not slide the braided loop into the tool tag end first rather than the loop end?

Could braid be a substitute for the 15lb mono?
@silverbowflyshop
@silverbowflyshop 7 лет назад
Oh yeah shouldn't be a problem. Gel Spun backing should work well too.
@Fernando_Woolybooger
@Fernando_Woolybooger 10 месяцев назад
Why not just put one nail knot bewtween your backing and line and call it a day? Fast, easy and way less complicated.

Utter crap you really have to pull those nail knots super tight or they wont hold the braid on the line the braid will simply pull off the line.
