Built this without the zener voltage diode and works great. From an early ray wilson design ... Loop back from ad out with switch to pin 2 555 and envelope repeats ! I didnt need a resistor , just direct feedback. Now we have looping adjustable ramp up / down and anything between lfo style envelope too 👍

Thanks for the tip on a simple mod. I have loop function on my AR already but might do this on the ADAR aswell. (Only problem is panel space for another switch...) 😅

a tip : you can watch movies on flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.

@Tanner Kristopher yup, have been using flixzone} for since december myself =)

Without an resistor, this loop is drawing 40mA. Depending on the output impedance of your PSU, this can cause problems. I added an 5k resistor and it still works but without power spikes

Enjoying these vids quite a bit! I'll have to build some of the modules you've done for my own DIY system. You're way ahead of me and I started building it months ago!

Sitting down and “boot camp”like I did that week did a big difference. Now I am just moving along by the momentum and NEED for that next module. :D hahahaha

I build the Thomas Henry design AD/AR which is also on the Electro-Music forum. It also uses the 7555 and works really well too. I guess they're not that different.

I think this one is really similar to that one. It is a very good design. TH at his best. :)

This looks - and sounds very good, Kristian. I’m guessing you use it frequently..? I need to get around to building this!

Ok, ultra-newbie question here - what type of switch should I order for this? From what I can tell it's a DPST switch, correct? With the ones I have found online, it seems like most have 6 pins. If so, how is this wired then? Sorry for such a basic question, but the switch is really throwing me off. Thanks!

Also, they seem to only be on-off???

It's SPDT, 3 pins. the schematic is drawn in a weird way. Trig/Gate coming in from the left, goes to the center pin.

DO you think I can do this with 9v and negative 0v to ground?

Hey Kristian, thanks for posting all this great stuff. Did you manage to get an LED on this module?
5 лет назад
No I didn’t. But maybe I should give it a go again as I have learned a lot in the recent months. :)

I've tried to follow along with you on these and have gotten way behind. Just learning electronics. These are great vids on the musical side of electricity. I remember when the Moog synth was born, which tells my age. I remember in one of your vids that you needed more power. Did you remedy that problem? I'm still good with the supply from your schematics, so far, but I was wondering if you had to build a different supply.

That is great! Don’t worry if you get behind, the videos won’t go anywhere. As for power I did beef it up a bit. It is possible to just build on the original one and basically add more capacitors and if one wants to add 5v. It is discussed in a video as you say if you watch the playlist it is the one about ripple. Just keep on building and you’ll get there. :). I have slowed down a bit too. The first week was really speedy, but now I have had to slow down and also I experiment a bit more which takes time. ;) Keep it up!

With a 556 chip instead you could make a dual module!
5 лет назад
Yep. But I am unsure if they make them anymore? When I bought components for this modular I only found 555s that was in production. It is still possible to buy them on eBay for example but not “new”. Two 555 would work aswell. :)

@ I found them here - www.taydaelectronics.com/ne556n-ne556-556-general-purpose-dual-bipolar-timer-ic.html

@ You're welcome! I found that site several years ago when I wanted to build an Atari Punk Console. Of course... shipping takes ages because it's coming from China, but the prices are fantastic!
