A while back, I was the program director of a couple of college programs as well as a full time professor. And System Admin. Once I had a student come to me and tell me that he might have problems because he has ADHD. I stopped him, showed him my prescription for my own meds and told him will work at finding a topic that he was interested in. Then wild horses couldn't stop him from soaking up the knowledge. Together we found that topic and 10 years later, he is the best network engineer that I have come across. But yeah, I struggled with that topic, even though I taught it because it didn't interest me as much. But they all got kind of scared and a bit excited when they entered a class that not only I was an expert on but I craved with a passion.

I always enjoy your take on the subject - and your mad editing style. Awesome. :-) Interestingly, I've come across a few doctors that actually recommended caffeine to temporarily help with ADHD (usually as a stop gap while we were working on finding which meds would work best) - something about how stimulants don't have the same effect as they do on "vanilla" brains (which may also explain why prescriptions like Ritalin don't seem to give a rush/high like normies get from it.)

I can take 25mg of Adderall and go right back to sleep no problem! 😄 At one point, when I was still working in the operating room and hadn't been prescribed any ADHD meds yet, I was consuming almost dangerous amounts of caffeine. Large thermos of coffee at 6am... four or five small-size quad shot mochas throughout my shift along with two or three Red Bulls for a boost... and sometimes coffee at night if I needed to stay awake in my home office. Thanks for the compliments on my editing! It's the most fun part of making videos... like putting together a fun puzzle or something. Have you checked out John's channel yet? It looks promising! I dont think its over diagnosed, I just think it's become easier to spot and recognise and that there are more people who have ADHD than was thought around when I got my diagnosis in 1995, great video though

I don't think it's likely to be over diagnosed currently. As for everyone I've met personally who's told me they have ADHD, my reaction is almost always, "Yep. I see that." I do get a bit concerned when I see it starting to look like a TikTok trend though, especially with those "quick fix" companies marketing drug services as a "cure" so often.

Hyper focus is painful. But it’s my poor executive function that kills me.

Sometimes my hyper-focus is a real benefit. If I'm trying to finish someone else's photo/video edit or clean my garage, it's great that I don't get distracted. It's when I hyper-focus on Angry Birds that's not so great. My executive function SUCKS, especially with money. My wife handles the finances 100%. When I was single, the only rule I could stick to was "if my checking account drops below $1000... time for a spending freeze." I had no savings apart from work pension, I had a lot of debt, I had a credit score in the low 500s. These days, last I checked, it's 836.

@@LegionOfWeirdos A huge percentage of the people who work in our IT department [myself included] have been diagnosed with ADHD where that hyper-focus can be useful. Building burning down? But look, my code works. Wait, where did everyone go?

Well... damn. I uploaded it, but didn't realize RU-vid would compress it so much. I downloads as a 640 x 640px image. Tried it on the Facebook page, but it also compressed to 640 plus it turns the transparent background to white.

Hi Jack! Adhd is real, but the origin is a little unsure. NOT hereditary, but often runs in families.... ‘Gabor Maté. Scattered Minds’. (It’s a game changer!) . Nice video. Thanks Christ.
