This is round eighteen of my second attempt playing through the Psygnosis and Bizarre Creations classic - Formula 1 97 for the Sony PlayStation.
Despite owning a copy of this game for over 20 years, I have never won the World Championship. So after a failed attempt with Olivier Panis, I'm re-teaming with Jean Alesi to try and make it happen.

It's an amazing turnaround. They still hadn't nailed race pace and reliability, but considering where they started and where they ended, the difference was remarkable. And then the regs changed and it was back to the back. 😬

It's the last chapter, than means F1 98 (audible thunder) ... is next. This was fun. Now, let's see if Alesi and Benetton can wrap up 2nd. Awwww, dang it. That race start and Panis' determination to catch Irvine by going through you just about killed it. That and attempted track extensions, but that's a different matter. Overall, a solid season, and a season that is very much a microcosm of Alesi himself (I'm positive it would have featured a few DNFs from the lead had failures been on as well). Hopefully there's a return to this with ... idk ... Justice For Kryten Squareh- David Coulthard, but armed with setup knowledge after someone researches what the setup actually does (That would be me, and spoiler alert: Rear wing doesn't affect handling, if you can believe that). I'm not ready for ... F1 98 (louder thunder) ... geez, that needs to stop. But we are going to run with it. All I know is Monaco THERE will be all kinds of fun and jankier than any other race. Just a guess.

This race was very much a microcosm of our season and of Alesi as a driver! What do you mean rear wings don't affect handling.... Even in the wet?!.... WHAT DO YOU MEAN!?!? The thunder's only gonna get louder I'm afraid. This one's gonna be... interesting. 👀

Awesome series - have really enjoyed throughout! I think you’d win that race if you did it over again… Also, starts in this game are an absolute killer it seems. Anyway, all hail F1 97 - what a game!

Schumy averaged 1.15 laps there, or there abouts, so definitely without the mistakes you could of done that mate. Look forward to the next project 👍

Well done, and we celebrate the completion of another F1 '97 season!! 👏 🎉 I like to think the ending movie with Murray's disembodied voice echoing through a ghostly cgi F1 car is what happens when we racers die. It's a little creepy, but it would be cool as hell 😎 lol I am excited for future plans, and we await F1 98's debut with the same excitement and anticipation of your drunken inlaws at a Christmas dinner 👍 Long live F1 97, the king 🤴

There is something very ethereal and quite special about that closing Murray cutscene. His voice at the pearly gates for racers makes perfect sense! That's the thing about drunken inlaws... could be a nightmare, could be massively entertaining. It could go either way! Not so long, just see you in a bit F1 97! 👊🏼

I love it that you uploaded this video while I was watching Formula For Success’s new Jean Alesi podcast video! 🙌 That felt like divine intervention, LOL 😝 Really well driven race, and congrats on finishing 2nd in the Championship! It’s a shame that starts have been so difficult to master for that car/driver combination in that game lately, very different from Jean’s race starts while driving for Benetton in real life! But I think you’ve done a good job of minimising their negative impact on race results. 🙂 Congrats on a pretty impressive season overall! 🙌

I feel like the developer brought in the office intern to design the racing line at this track. It's so bad. I can forgive the accuracy of the track in general because they had to model it in a few weeks, but the racing line was clearly drawn by someone who'd never driven a car.

Well, that was a very long, yet intriguing journey, sucks that you couldn't do any justice to Jean, but at least ya tried, anyways, long time no see, man, and can't wait to see ya enter the madness that is Formula 1 '98 "justice for" season.

@@TheOutsideLine hehehe, also, if the link i gave ya sometime ago about what Bizarre was doing during the Metropolis Street Racer worked, then it's easier to look it up in Wikipedia page of that game, it even has that Edge article referenced, so ya should find it with relative ease.

so in general, i find this series enjoyable whilst i was plowing through the Milestone/KT Racing WRC series marathon style (already about to beat WRC 10, so i'm left with Generations)
