Re. you going for Fisi, fittingly I remember Jean Alesi liked him (at least as of 1998). The pair had a collision at Austria '98 after very strong wet weather qualifying performances from both of them, and after the incident Jean specifically said that he felt it was a shame partly because of losing a potentially good result and partly because "I really like Giancarlo!".

The change of regulation for 1998 was clearly state to reduce the car's cornering speed. It's pretty much the last of the raft of safety regulations due to the May 1994 accidents.

Congrats and I'm sorry. You started this, so we'll suffer through this one. Also, you decided that Flavio was a good enough boss to work under him again, just don't punt Wurz and you'll be fine ... wait, what do you mean? WHERE'S FLAVIO?! All right, F1 98. I'm experienced with F1 99 so I can see some similarities. Obviously the forecast, and the ability to change the setup mid session ... Except that 99 actually shows you the complete forecast for the day and has not lied to me in the time I've played it! I think we need to start playing some Eurobeat over some of these races, those were some sick drifts, even if there were plenty scary. Qualifying ... casually 3 seconds in front of the field. You know, just usual things. You know, there's a non-zero chance this game takes into account your actual qualifying times to adjust the AI into more competitive times, which could be tested by doing a few laps at the start of qualy, advancing time and seeing how the AI times reach. Or maybe Benetton brought good ol' Option 13 back. It's clear to me either the game THOUGHT the track was dry but the graphics disagreed OR the wet weather is poorly done in this game, which I can 100% believe considering how unpolished and rough-edged this game looks ... quite literally. Also, I'm disappointed with the Championship Standings. In race it showed you as racing for "Benetton Playlife", but the Standings Screen showed you as "Benetton Mecachrome". Which is technically true, but then fully commit to it and say "Sauber Ferrari" instead of Petronas. Let's think about the positives, this might actually be an interesting championship. And there's only 15 more races until this is complete and F1 99 shows up as the light at the end of the tunnel. And, as an aside, regarding Fisico's DNF. One of the other F1 games at the time was Microprose's Grand Prix Manager series which ... well, was a manager game series. Their game for this year, Grand Prix World, actually made it a point to represent Fisichella's DNF by making the Mecachrome engine capable of breaking the rear wing, which also made Williams vulnerable to this. All engines could shake the rear wing to death by making the drivers use sufficient Top Speed, but the Mecachrome was special as it would do this on the default setting.

If there was ever a controller throwing moment, then the wet race start was clearly it! Well battled Ash

The prospect of you having to do Interlagos, Silverstone and Suzuka with the way you have to drive this thing almost gives me a nosebleed. On a positive note, you did a bloody good job of making the game look driveable here. You're probably one of only about 10 people who've unlocked its secrets. Just keep reminding yourself that the promised land of F1 99 awaits 🙂

So I remember another "quirk" of this game is that when using the auto gearbox sometimes the game will shift up rapidly especially out of slow corners costing you tons of speed 😅.

This is the NASCAR 08 of F1 Games. Handling that would be decent in any JDM Drifting game where you dont have to go in a straight line! I also appreciate the slow and steady introduction sequence before the race.

What an absolute joke of a game. I remember coming from 97 and being so gassed for 98, getting it and barely driving it then reading it WELL before 99 was released lol. Also… as per, great content mate

It's almost like the devs couldn't get the weather forecast to work so they made tyre choice irrelevant as a "fix".

I remember when I first played this game. I got it as a gift from my mom when I was like 4. You know what my first reaction was? I fucking cried over how fucking shit the game was. I had F1 97 the year before. The game was so bad, I thought I accidentally asked for the wrong game.

But I only ask because I actually do like the 99 game, but the analog in it gives me a rough time. I think it handles smoother with digital.. I dunno, just a thought!,

I am seeing this game for the first time in over 25 years and I am shocked. I played it a lot back then and I loved it! I also thought the graphics where good. Now seeing it I’m utterly shocked how shite this is! I also played Indycar Racing by papyrus which always was amazing(I still have the big boxes of the games) and im utterly shocked how I could enjoy this mess when I knew the amazing products of Papyrus..
