Some years ago I was working as a garbo for Auburn Council and did the rear loader garbage run for 5 weeks. I uploaded a long video of truck #183 back then, showing the JP5/ACCO workhorse in action and giving a little look at the job. I saved this second video of the units/apartments run for a later date and have decided to finally share it. This video features two clips taken at slightly different angles, but involves a single job known as Auburn Central. Right in the heart of the Auburn CBD, beside the train station and above the main shopping centre is a large residential unit complex producing enough garbage to fill around 30 x 660Ls three times a week. I loved doing this job with this truck - so many bins in a group to keep the work going and all done inside a loading dock to increase noise :D Funnily enough when I once went around Auburn to video the trucks, I saw all the bins awaiting collection in this location and told myself I had to get it on video, then a couple of years later I did and here it is! Watching this stuff really makes me miss rear loader work, especially big tasks like this one where you’re constantly loading and packing, plus an awesome truck makes it just as cool. Don’t feel bad if you get bored part of the way through the video as it is pretty repetitive, but definitely enjoy if you like this kind of action.

@westaustraliangarbagetruck7430
Nice one mate do these get emty every week this is a lot of rubbish I get huff a 240lter bin not even that and there is 4 people in my family and my recycling bin is so full it got empty on Friday and it's huff full already and it's a 240 leter. And wasn't that yellow bin recycling or garbage or was it contaminated.

Nice one! I really enjoy your Rear Loader videos especially the ones with you working on those Doyle Bros RL's (the amount of times I have actually watched that series... over and over again!). I noticed this truck features the older type Spill Shield on the lifter and do you think it is more reliable then the shields that are connected to the arm and the body?

Good to hear! I'll never forget those Doyles days, bloody good times. You liking those videos wouldn't have anything to do with the trucks being 07 ACCOs ey? ;) It would've been mad working there officially when they still ran all the old loud ones, they run a lot of e5 now, devo. The awesome thing about this type of shield is that it boosts efficiency as you're rarely needing to wait for the packer, seeing that it holds all the material in the hopper when you lower the lifter. However, they can buckle a bit or the latches which hold it up can jam in the case something bulky gets pushed against it by the packer, but that's more of a bad luck thing. It really comes down to keeping the hopper cleared and paying attention to what's falling in to reduce the chance of damage. I imagine the spill mat is favoured more as I think it may be cheaper, it's lighter weight, folds right out of the way by itself to load loose items and it's potentially less prone to damage.

I like jobs like this which start to blur the line between fast paced residential and heavy commercial containers. Though I think our company record is 4 2yds of trash or 6 3yds of cardboard. Not 1000x 660L lol. Same goes for the indoor jobs which seem to be so common on your channel. Lots of echoing truck sounds, the beacon light reflecting off the walls, and that odd smell unique to an indoor parking structure. Good thing for that steel spill shield. How do you think the JP5 would do at a similar stop using 1100Ls? Seems the smaller hopper though fun to watch at work would get backed up were the bins any larger, though I may be totally off base.

Yep you would generally relate bins like these with commercial, plus given the fact this all took place inside a shopping centre loading dock, so you wouldn't think it was residential. I love doing groups of bins, makes for great fun and that completion speed challenge :D I'm sure there are plenty more massive jobs out there I haven't seen..... one day I'd love to reverse in some driveway with an RL and find 10 overflowing 1.5m's awaiting pick-up lol You know I honestly reckon even with 1100Ls this truck wouldn't struggle much, you'd probably just require an extra pack cycle every 4-5 bins to maybe clean-out some of the additional volume. With the 1100Ls being wider, basically the additional capacity at the back of the bin gets thrown further back into the hopper when the bin is flipped over, whereas in this video the bins are smaller so a lot of the contents drop more towards the front, not taking advantage of the rearward space.

How many tonnes does the truck load? It looks taller than ours in Sweden, ours are 2.10-3.60 meters tall. Greetings from a garbo in Sweden

I remember when this truck was packed up really full, it could hold about 10-11 tonne, which was over the legal payload but, 19 cubic metre body on this one. Height would've been a bit over 3 metres, I keep forgetting average height of our rear loaders, but about 3.1-3.2 metres from memory.

This truck must get full quickly! How many loads do you have per day doing these runs? I don't get how they fill so many up in just a few days! Was that recycle bin contaminated in the first clip? Good video mitch! Always uploading something good!

Yep you get the weight on board with jobs like this very quickly, good couple of tonne from this site alone. When I did the run there were 2 days you had to do 3 loads and the rest of the week was around 2, but now they have an extra truck due to growth. Yeh now and then there was a recycle bin or two out for collection, generally contaminated with something, didn't really check how much though, used to just chuck everything that was presented. Cheers.

Wow the compactor just keeps on going non stop. Lots of 660l bins to do round there, truck must fill up pretty quickly. A few dump stops during one day? Auburn still using these JP5's?

I love these jobs where you're constantly packing - used to tell myself if the packer stops you're not working efficiently :D Didn't realise how many 660Ls Auburn had around the place until I did this job, was cool to see. This particular pick-up makes it look like really heavy work, but in reality you'd get the most part of each day in 2 loads, only a couple of days you needed to do a small third run to the tip. I understand they still run this truck for now, otherwise the rest are newer UrBins.

Not bad, but I prefer the SL only because I drive one 👍🏼

Don't you guys have compactor roll offs like here in the states because that would be way more efficient. Or is there not really enough room for that.
@AussieGarbo
@AussieGarbo 7 лет назад
Yep we have RORO and hook-lift compactors, but they're more for shopping centres and commercial sites. Some residential buildings use compactors, but they're the small stationary units which feed steel RL containers or squash rubbish into wheelie bins. The particular site in the video is actually quite a longer complex than it is tall, so I understand these bins are put in multiple locations on the different levels to serve different units, that's why they have the letters printed on the sides to identify where they belong.

nope, not bored. haha that constant revving and just imagining the ejector slowly inching forward each time kept me leaning in like this was a 4 minute video. but why in God's name would you use 660s instead of anything better, at least instead of 1100s, at this stop? reading comments I guess each location doesn't need that large of a container if the building is more long than tall...I think here they would have a couple rolloff compactors emptied but once a week, or maybe 5 or 6 sets of just a couple FL dumpsters and make the people walk (or subcontract a third party to pick up and take bags to the dumpsters each night). The differences are interesting. wonder if the building's trash arrangement will always stay this way...

Sometimes this action is very capturing, one after the other, how much is there?! haha I remember checking the ejector before and after we did this, only took up space in one of those forward ribbed sections of the body - not bad volume reduction eh? :O With Auburn this is the biggest bin size they have, so I guess it was a standards thing in one way, but it works with the building design and how waste is handled there. First thing I think of as an alternative is a mini packer of some kind emptied a couple of times a week, only thing with that is they don't run hook-lifts or appear to have a workable spot to locate one for this complex. There are some real stupid set-ups out there, kind of like one council which has 100 x 240Ls fed by compactors emptied once a week..... methinks that's where better thought would be good.
