I’ve been waiting for around 5 years to post this video, when all of the units are now long gone and crushed. You want to know the full story link below Follow me on Instagram- auction_insider... nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn...
It’s not about them being greedy, they are ALL about safety and looking out for the bottom line! If you have 1500 cars out there and 1000 catch fire it doesn’t look good for stock price or the image of the company. Then the law suits to follow. You have to think beyond the video and realize that BMW doesn’t want to take a loss on any of these cars either and they have done their due diligence in making sure of that.
these cars were here locally to me in vancouver BC, there was a yard with hundreds of new BMWs left to rot due to "possible" salt water damage during shipping, for all those blaming BMW, the decision wasn't theirs, they were forced by transport canada to junk all cars, truly a shame and waste, honestly transport canada should be charged and penalized for the way they dealt with this
It was actually chemicals they use to de ice planes that was sprayed to melt the snow when they were in port with 6 ft of snow on them. All of these cars were inspected and are the ones the deemed unsafe by a team of inspectors from Germany
@@Auction_Insider right, another correction on my part, it wasn't hundreds, it was 3000+ cars, with average bmw cost $80k CAD, it was $124 mil CAD thrown away
Yep proves that in the end its just a pile of metal. One of many reasons id never buy one of these new even if i had the money, might as we flush the bills in the toilet.
I've been working fixing cars for almost 30 years, and I struggle to understand how any amount of "excessive exposure to water, salt and ice" that could occur during the initial storage period (as described in the news article linked to in the description) could result in a car not only becoming unsafe to the point that it's unroadworthy, but doing so in such a way that's impossible to determine without destructive testing. Rather than crushing these cars which is an appalling waste, they could have instead just auctioned them off as "Damaged in storage, sold as seen, buyer beware" and then not only would they have recovered some of their manufacturing and shipping outlay, but it would have saved thousands of likely perfectly fixable cars from destruction. I find it difficult to believe that any of these cars would have been any more unsafe or any more beyond repair than some of the badly collision-damaged cars I've seen properly repaired and put back on the road.
The real answer is that it's all about money. If you sell 3,000 "new" BMWs at a discount on the secondary market, it reduces scarcity. e.g. it would reduces the amount of money people would be willing to pay a dealer for a new one. Fighting in the courts to be compensated for the full value and then selling new ones is more profitable. Everything is about $$$
I went there and tried to get one. I didnt care which one, i asked for any, they said the problem is if i go insure it and smt happens cause of the damage insurance wont cover it. Thats why they csnt be sold. Insurance wont cover em
@@jamericanprinceify buy a car in Canada and the price will be 25% less depending on the dollar that day. Importing isn’t that bad as long as it’s not modified or lowered.
I'm from Germany and I see something like that, it breaks your heart and unfortunately you can't do anything about it..... how does something like this happen?
Growing up in Oakland County Michigan I remember going to a scrap yard in the afternoon with a friend to make a few bucks. We couldn't believe what we witnessed. A stack of brand-new corvettes six high stacked on top of each other!! All to be demolished!!! Apparently, they were test cars. For two sixteen-year-olds it was shocking. That was over 50 years ago. I think the name of the yard was Sam Allen's on the edge of Pontiac Michigan.
We bought a new, no mileage Subaru Legacy that had been on the lot for many, many months. Right away the battery failed and the dealer replaced it. Since then, we've had it in storage for over three years because of COVID-19. It literally went from one storage facility to another.
This brings back memories of when I was working at a BMW/Mini dealer back then as a tech and used to do PDI inspections on them when they were new. I've taken the plastic protection off so many times, if I was there, I'd start peeling it off 🤣
This reminds me of the VW Diesel recall, those cars are all currently sitting in an open lot in Nevada. They cannot be resold if turned in to VW unless the upgrade is done.
That was all a scam...as Kiwi testers found out...all done to push EV's diesels were too cheap to run,too reliable... hence diesel is 30p/litre more expensive than petrol right now in the UK(cheaper to produce as well), and agricultural diesel is banned on everything apart from farm equipment... all part of the WEF plan...enjoy driving while you can, it's coming to an end very soon!
@@williamrae9954 I believe you 100% I had a 2014 VW Jetta TDI that was my best car ever. All a damn scam. America still building diesel trucks with worst pollution than VW😡
They are nice looking cars. That generation of bmw m5 is prone to rod bearing failure. There is one right now at my work with a failed engine. 2012 M5 white in colour.
Great buddy, but absolutely heartbreaking..I can't get over the Alpina!! 😥 The wheels alone are thousands a corner.... It's only superficial surface damage ( when they got sprayed) what an absolute shocking shocking waste of precious resources 😲😮😱
mine too... i´ve been driving an E36 328i Coupé now for 9 years and i try to make it an oldtimer, keep it in good condition and so on... same goes for my 335xi E92... it hurts to see those cars going to be scrapped for no real reason... i mean, my father crashed his E36 323i Sedan very badly in 2014... but still, we managed to get it back on the road by fixing it by ourselves.
I thought it was incredible also and wanted to document it. I wanted to put this video out a long time ago but I think waiting for them to be gone was the right thing to do.
I met someone who bought a new m4 convertible that ended up being part of this group. A lot of the exposed aluminum bits in the engine bay and suspension parts had that white flaking stuff on it in the short time she had it, but otherwise no issues? BMW called her up later and explained what had happened and she needed to bring her car back. They offered to replace it with a similar M4 and she agreed. Her old car is still somewhere in this video. Color was topaz? I don’t recall the official name for it.
I understand that’s not what you’d want on your new car. Scrapping it is completely on the other side of the spectrum though. My 6 year old Mercedes C-class has some flaking white stuff on the outside of the engine as well. It’s common after six years and 90k miles and it will probably last another 90k miles or more.
@@roelp1126 I do not remember everything that was explained back then in 2015. It wasn’t just cars that were delivered to the west coast, but across Canada as well. These cars were under constant excessive salt water exposure while waiting on the docks on the east coast, and at one point were encased in ice created by the ocean spray. Either way it was just a huge mess, BMW lost their lawsuit against the port, and now they are all gone.
@@Fabulousprofound168 ok thanks, that sounds like a horrible scenario! Now I understand a bit better where the flaking white stuff came from.. Of course BMW Will never be able to provide any form of guarantee for these cars. Hopefully there will be value in the parts (if I were a BMW owner, I’d definitely be interested in a nice Alpina upgrade 😉)
They were exposed to salt and ice. Is this not the normal situation for any car in Canada? Does this mean your bmw will become dangerous if you use it all winter? If they were flood damaged I would understand.
Oh I was just being OTT .. reading comments here it struck me odd that so many people said they were heartbroken. Seems odd to feel that way about a bunch of cars.
It would cost more for the factory to pay somebody to fix and guarantee them than to have their factory make a batch of new ones. "If you or a loved one were injured because BMW profited by improperly selling salvaged cars with known defects, call 1-800....."
The BMW Models with a 320D Engine here in Europe actually do around 60 mpg on a run and at least 50 Minimum Driving locally, They are one of the best cars in Europe for fuel economy, especially with our price of fuel, which is over $10 usd a gallon.
In real life it's more like 40mpg, I've had a couple to know. I get similar numbers from my 330d, earlier m57 with a manual box. The six cylinder diesel models are the way to go.
I do alot of work on bmws with the diesil engines and I'm constantly fixing broken timing chains they are one of the most unreliable cars that I work on everything is made of plastic their just terrible if everyone were driving Toyotas I would be out of business their still the most reliable car ever made in my opinion..
@@petermerrifield1234 even the M57. I don’t see many problems with 335d but I do know what you are talking about plastics in the engines. I’ve seen almost new BMW X5, 750s with 20-30,000km on them huffing blue smoke lmao.
They are from Quebec and they end up in Kimco scrap yard in Kingston, Ont. being shredded all bmw and mini cooper I remember that, some kind of water damage, driver told me that .
They had them spread out over a few yards in Canada. I would have liked to see all the other units that were across other sites but I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be able to post this video
Would be nice if they could resell these at huge discounts but make the buyers sign a waiver/agreement that BMW isn't responsible for the safety of these cars and they need professional repairs done. However, in reality regardless of any waiver anything negative that happens from these cars will fall back on the brand and hurt their reputation.
The ignorance & negligence of the human race is a bottomless pit, making any known black hole in our universe look like a soap dish. What a disgusting, shameful waste. Honestly, when I was shopping for E9X's pre pandemic, the conditions weren't far off from these anyway! 😂
@@Auction_Insider damn what a sad waste, regardless of the damages, the interiors looked mint, could've easily sold or made someone's day with them.....god i hate the world nowadays , so wasteful with everything:/
Highlights the stupidity of mankind. To have all these cars rotting away instead of stripping them completely down and have a HUGE market on replacement parts. It doesn't matter if the car is recalled or isn't streetable anymore, the individual parts have nothing to do with that.
@@BimmerMafia I’m sure there might have been a lot of theft, I personally didn’t see any or I would have filmed it. It’s a problem with any big business though.
@@Auction_Insider oh Forsure. Especially with auctions & storage facilities. I work for IAA towing in vehicles. Before knowing the story I was already thinking hail damage or flood cars. But if they were at adesa auto auction. Usually means to be sold. The Adesa in San Antonio Texas has a car crusher but it’s only to crash a couple cars a month not 3k bimmers. Tragic
@@BimmerMafia we are also a storage facility. I should have made a VW diesel video because we also stored all those vehicles before they were fixed and resold
I just want a few of those beautiful monobloc calipers. Just a few sets and I'd be so happy. I can't stand to see so much waste. I haven't been able to find a recall that covers everything I've seen in the course of this video playing. But damn-parts, parts, parts!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree,German shit at its best. Tons of these up for sale now, never seen so many for sale. BMW business plan worked but now nobody wants them now they realise what money pits they are.
@@garlicnaan1 I’m surprised that bmw wasn’t held more accountable for the plastics inside the engine causing almost new cars to smoke after 20-30,000km. They couldn’t tell me they didn’t know about the problem during testing before release lol
These Cars are probably more reliable and safer to be on the road than 75% of the current cars already on the road who does their own illegal DIY 😳 and etc...
B48/B58 + zf 8HPs are pretty solid as long as owners never abuse them, I think it's becuz TOYOTA SUPRA use the same power units, every time driving my G11 LCI it's like heaven for a car guy like me, Carbon Core structure for less than $100k, it's like a dream come true!
Been so long, they should have sold these to some nigerian business man who will distribute them around africa or any where where the insurance laws..etc dont matter as much.
These cars have all been recycled and you need to be a dealer to buy at the auction. There is a public auction but not to much good stuff goes through. If you are interested it’s every Saturday morning pacific time at 930 or 10 ADESA Richmond google
You'd have to start it up first, and make sure it has gas, and I'd don't think they'll track you bc there were there to be crushed anyway and you have to have it hidden somewhere bc otherwise itll get towed if no registration
