See more reinstall TIPS in the bottom of this summary. These are incredibly important to prevent a Check Engine Light after reinstalling the intake runner flap assembly.
This C7, 2012 A6 3.0t w/142K miles developed a pretty serious coolant leak from underneath the supercharger, but it was not where you would have expected it. In this video you will see the car with the front lock carrier in Audi Service Position, bumper cover removed, supercharger removed and a replacement of the water pump, thermostat, coolant pipe, vent pipe, etc. Use Google to find the removal and service position procedures as I did not have time to show the how-to in the video. After the front lower fender liners are removed, there is 6, 10mm bolts, 4 coarse torx screws, 1 washer fluid line, and various electrical connections to remove the bumper cover; depending on the car's options.
Some more tips for this job: the broken coolant pipe has several items mounted above it to remove before it can be torn out. The Intake runner flap and fuel rail assembly being one of them, which means the fuel connections from the high pressure fuel pump to the rail, and the line from the right rail that leads to the left rail need disconnecting, and several T30's holding the stainless fuel line down the top of the engine. Also, there are mounts on the coolant pipe that secure it to the rear, top of the engine that were very difficult to remove because of clearances. I used my micro 1/4" ratchet and 1/4" torx bits for these.
The MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE REINSTALL, has to do with placing the intake runner flaps in the correct position by folding them gently with your fingers, before threading in the (5?) torx bolts and 2, 10mm nuts on the top of the fuel rail. In each intake port, there is a thin metal divider. The intake runner flaps need to be turned down a tiny bit, so that the runner flaps will be able to fully open to 100%; exposing the valves. Which means the flaps need to be on the RIGHT SIDE of the thin metal divider (on Bank 1-pass side ports). If you DON'T move the flaps to the right a tiny bit, before pushing the assembly down, the flaps will be in a stuck closed state.
Please don't hesitate to leave a comment or question about any part of this job. I will not soon forget it.

This pipe is such a common break. Mine just went. Im in there now. Hell of a pain to remove fully from the rear. Not enough videos showing this or actual removal from the special clip hidden in the rear.
@mk_ultrarunner
Wow! I've seen the the water pump and t-stat done without even been in service mode. Now you got me concerned after I ordered water pump, t-stat, belts, etc. I will remove the supercharger, but also my PCV body needs replacing. That will have to be another day. How much coolant did you lose/replace?
@allenavelar83
Hey really hope you see this today! Do you know what o rings you used for the crossover pipe and the thermostat?
@jazibahmad1110
3.0tfsi are notorious for coolant leak if there is a coolant leak its probably pcv also known as crankcase breather and thermostat housing can leak too or the water if one of them leaks i recommend doing all three because around 100k miles all of them would leak the crossover pipe breaks just be ready and the coolant pipe above the pcv also know as crankcase breather would break too but i got lucky it didnt break but you can do this at home intermediate level of work but the engine actually pretty strong timing chains are really good on these engines just change your oil every 4k miles if its the dct transmission is perfect strong af. Never had a problem other than coolant issue
@thefittedfew
Would you get splatter on the hoses due to the leak?? I’ve been noticing white splatter marks on some hoses due to the leak landing on the belts while the car is on? Would you recommend just replacing the oil separator unit while I’m there??
@Hitmanjat
Amazing Video! I am dealing with something similar and about to take the supercharger off as I can't pin point it. I assumed water pump as it leaks badly as soon as I pressure test it behind the pump, but it appears to be coolant leaking from just above the water pump everything about my water pump is dry. I am thinking it is this return pipe or the coolant cross over pipe, did you have a hard leak as well? Thanks
@Beef_Supreeeme
Such a helpful video showing the parts and part numbers. Thanks for taking the time to create this.
@bloodblood23
Was your car overheating? Or just losing coolant

If only VAG had made the coolant pipes out of metal instead of plastic...

This problem happened to me about a year and a half ago , almost 2 years ago. Ordered new water pump and thermostat and crossover engine coolant pipe and bingo all good. BUT TODAY had the same issue happen just the same way. Coolant spewed out all over and covered my belts and fans with coolant. What happened to me this time ? Water pump again ?

You legend. That's what my problem was!! I have been chasing it for literally months. I have had the supercharger off 3 times and I had replaced everything other than that pipe, as none of the other guides mentioned it. Thanks man!
