Thank you man!! I wasted $700 to get my car fix and no mechanic knew about Audis like you! They change a lot of things and now that i saw your video I fixed it myself!! Thank You!! The Best 🔥🔥🔥🙏🏼💪🏼
I have the diaphragm for a good 4 months and now I’m just getting around to fixing it, along with the spark plugs and coils. Very good information about this, I knew I could do it but today I will complete it
I have a 2014 Audi and this is the part I need to replace on my car. The shop was going charge me almost $500.00 for the part and labor. Thank you sir for sharing.
hey man so fixed mines bro ! i ordered oem Audi coil packs make sure they're the right length the first set was a millimeter off idk if that changes the reliability, but also change the spark plugs as well as fresh oil and filter, and i new MAF sensor and that'll fix your problem! i thought it was my PCV but no i was wrong ! the parts came out to be $530 and the tools costed $240 so in my opinion its worth doing your self took me about 2 hrs for all of it ! best of luck to you man!
Love your videos brother!!! I own a 2010 audi a5 2.0 quattro and I've had every problem in the book! You have helped with many of your videos! I appreciate it brother!
Thank you Naptown youre about to save me some good cheddar for summer brother. I was really about to give my 2012 a4 up till i found this channel. Wish i found you when i had to replace my turbo 3 weeks after i bought it in April! Nah but you helped me diagnos and replace my hpfp about a month ago. Hopefully this new $220 gates PCV and new plugs finally fix my car. Fingers f****** crossed.
Good repair . I nearly pissed my self laughing when you started it and it idled then ran crap before the Italian tuneup kicked in . Good video and credit for showing the defective diaphragm in the old PCV valve keep it up. :)
Excellent tutorial, I learned a lot! Especially liked that you disassembled the PCV valve to show the failure mechanism, and explained why the engine (briefly) ran rough after the repair. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. My 2009 A3 TFSI 2.0 has 90,000 miles on it and I noticed the same issue with the oil fill cap being pulled by vacuum back into the engine. I replaced the PCV breather and found that the old one didn't pass the pressure blow test. The diaphragm was also torn in three places. This was an easy fix thanks to your explanation. I'm building up confidence to replace my timing chain and tensioner myself.
@@tubbycustard8866 Not yet, on the timing chain. I'm still working up the courage to take it on. The tensioner issue is a time bomb but I've been keeping the rpm's down in the meantime. The PVC breather replacement fixed a bunch of minor issues such as no more oil seepage from the upper timing chain cover, better gas mileage
@@factotum2883 theres a way to check how much stretch there is on the chain w OBD scanner, I believe ppl say if its over +/- 5 degrees then it should be done asap
@@tubbycustard8866 I'm at 4 degrees now. Thanks for the tip. The tensioner with the defective design is the real time bomb. It could go at any time. I'm not driving the car now and this will be a project sometime later this summer.
Thanks a million for this video. I done these checks/previous checks you showed and it all did as advised. £92 from audi, design revised in 2017 so hopefully a much better design... also the round cap hole near sucked my finger in so there's definitely vacuum! I'll get the part fitted, picked it up this morning.. I'll update once installed.
Seems like dejavu every video I watch of yours....YES...the dealer stripped one of my pcv screws. I will be addressing that when I reseal the cam tray. All good content. Thanks Naptown.
My b7 is doing this, ordering the pcv tonight. You make it look easy and simple, you dont sit here and commendate yourself bc “its so so hard” look at me.
@naptowntuner your correct about the pcv creating vaccume. I learned that lesson this weekend when I reassembled the fuel injectors along with intake breather and "the whole shebang". I was having a misfire on cylinder 2 and a random on cylinder 4. I almost believe this was all cause by a vaccume leak. That nipple on the intake under your index finger where you removed the hose for pvc. If you had blocked that it would have run perfect. When the pcv fails that nipple can be blocked off to create vaccume.
I was getting the dreaded 'Low Oil Pressure, Switch Engine Off Immediately' warning on my dash (2010 A5 2.0T) and that freaked me right out, I managed to limp the car home (about half mile) shutting off the engine every time the warning came on (only happened at or around idle), saw some of your videos and some other mechanic's videos after noticing how difficult it was to take the oil fill cap off while engine was running (I thought that wasn't right, should be way easier) so I ordered a replacement PCV diaphragm incase I broke it when I removed it to check, sure enough there was a half inch tear in the diaphragm, replaced the cap with a new one, no more extreme vacuum in the crankcase, let the engine run for a half hour, got up to temp, made a short run out, no warning on the dash, engine sounds normal. I ordered some low and high oil pressure switches just incase the warning comes back as I'm fairly confident it's not the actual oil pump, going to take it for a longer drive today... fingers crossed!
Sounds very familiar. I have that same alarm pop up every 2 years (I have the car 6 years now), each time I need to replace the pcv and it is good to go again until the pcv fails again exactly 2 years in (give or take a month).
I just paid $1202 for my local dealer to perform this fix on my 2010 A5 that has already had the full rebuild for oil consumption. Drat. I could hear it whistling on acceleration at ~2300 rpm and thought it was turbo leak. Engine light came on with my wife driving and car started running rough and lurching. Took it to the dealer. Fixed, but your video is 8 minutes and they charged: $787 in labor, $258 in parts, $60 for oil & filter.
Ooo hey I got my name mentioned haha. After I put my k04 Turbo on and I was data logging with IE it blew that hose off during hard pulls. My car ran terrible and I thought I blew my motor. I got home and saw that hose was blew off and was so relieved. I am very new to these cars so I thought my motor was done. I zip tied my hoses on so that wouldnt happen again. Only had it since March I think. 3 weeks after I bought the car I noticed it burned a quart of oil every 300 miles and it started to smoke real bad. I wish I did research and knew these cars had that issue. I had to remove the motor and replace the pistons and rings.
Great content! I don't own an audi though :) Sometimes i use cigarettes to find vacuum leaks but I think it wouldn't help in case of an internal leak such as this one
Some person had got rid of the pcv . His contention was that it allowed soot to build up in the manifold. More importantly he said it did absolutely nothing for the vehicle. He had setup some kind of collection system and had blanked the pcv right out of the equation. Can't remember the forum, but worth a look.
He knows them inside out and he is still learning new things. What does that tell you ?? In keeping with modern trends these cars are very diverse, diverse in throwing up so many issues and problems that you cannot keep track of them all !! Its a value added sale when you buy one of these you get the car and all of the problems !!
Hey thanks! This video is super helpful! I just bought a Audi A4 B8 and while the engine was running I tried to lift the oil cap and there was medium resistance so I'm gonna change it preemptively
I'm late, but that's fake news. This engine naturally has vacuum. Lifting your oil cap SHOULD have resistance. Changing your Oil separator (people keep calling it a PCV Valve........) does absolutely ZERO.
That flatrate hustle is still strong... feel free to slow things down a bit (longer videos generate more revenue once your channel is approved for monetization). =)
Hey man your videos obviously are always super helpful, I just jumped in to an Audi s6 with the V10 I obviously have my list of preventative maintenance things I want to do but I just wanted to run a couple things by you or if you had any input it would be greatly appreciated! Not sure how to actually message you or know if you reply
Thanks for the video, I did that test and I definitely have to replace that valve, I have an oil pressure error, could it be due to that valve as well?
Hey, great video, I have an old a4 b6 cab with 2.5 V6 TDi 8H BDG the PCV is down in the V under a load of stuff in the way, have you done any work on those babies, she is a project car. Love your channel. Happy new year. 😁👍
Bought one of these cars recently and keep finding my way back to your videos! Great content! Would you know what the cause is for the PCV to suck up oil? I have the black top on it so bought another black top but when I took off the old unit it had quite a bit of oil pooling in the outlet to the turbo and in the outlet to the intake. Since replacing the new one seems to be doing the same. So I don't think the PCV is at fault... Cheers
The black top or the semi-transparent are just different revisions of the same exact thing. This valve takes out the extra (hot) air from the engine and send it back into the intake system. This hot air transfer with it a bit of oil over the time. the diaphragm over the time between getting hot and cold repeatedly wears down and the only solution is to change the whole valve. There are other solutions such as modifying it by installing a catch can but you'll have to clean the can regularly.
Yo Nap. love the content. long time sub. What’s the best approach for stripped bolt holes? I was provided with incorrect torque spec and unfortunately over torqued two holes. Thanks man. Cheers
I went through this hassle with that worthless PCV awhile back got fed up trying to get it to run right.with the catch can it works great, finally I tied a rag into a knot clipped off the ends and shoved it into the tube so it was hidden inside the tube and would pass smog.It worked then I went home and put the catch can back on because here in California catch cans are not legal.god this state is so screwed up.
So I've heard of putting your finger over that little hole and feeling for vacuum but what I think I have is pressure coming out of that hole. Is that normal?
Anyone else got or had trouble with your doors not opening from the external handle? Had to replace the Drivers door actuator and all is good but Passenger side door isn't opening now..wondered if this is a common fault..maybe Naptowntuner could mention this in an upcoming video to address this issue? Also the issue when car doesn't want to go into 1st or 2nd gear as easily as it should..noticed a lot of people have this issue on forums too 👍
I had a similar problem in that the rear passenger door would no longer lock on my 2009 Audi A3. I replaced the door latch assembly and that solved it. It required taking off the interior trim r and releasing a cable and removing a few screws. I needed to buy s triple square bit along with the the new latch I went for an aftermarket part and it was around $50. It would have been at least $250 for the part alone at the dealer, I would guess another $300 or so in labor, so I'm glad I did this myself. It took some patience to get the old latch out of the door but it can be done without removing the window.
My b7 a4 is doing something weird. I installed the cts catch can. And started getting what I thought was an exhaust leak, it sounded like a deep bogging noise. I then realized it was coming from the intake and the noise would stop when I pulled the dip stick out. Tech at my work said it was pressurizing the crankcase and most likely bad piston rings
So I have that “whole other problem” that you mention at the 1:55 min mark, that being a stripped screw AND a screw that broke off leaving me with the screw head. Argh!! Any tips for tapping new threads into the aluminum tray? Thanks man! Your videos are terrific!
Awesome content bro 👏. Can a bad engine oil seperator/breather throw out all kinds of codes, bad injectors etc..? I have a 09' S8 Audi. Im running into similar issue. I havent changed out the separator part yet, but I'm going to now to see if it resolves the issue. Plugs, coils all been replaced. My rear main seal not leaking. Vcds showing lean codes etc..few injector codes. When I start it car idles fine for moment then tries to stall off I don't keep my foot on gas pedal to give it enough gas at 1k rpm, if let go it stalls out. Have to maintain just above 1k rpm to not stall out out. Any suggestions greatly appreciated 🙂 thx.
My 2007 a3 has a p0171 code and a p0296 code. To lean bank 1. I ran some injector cleaner and it seems to have fixed the problem for a bit but the p0171 code came back. Cleaned maf and the code went away for a week then came back. I'm thinking pcv or the o2 sensor. Check for leakes near the intake and there was a Crack in plastic. Used zip tape to cover and it has been running good for a week until I parked it waiting to redo breaks when I have time. Hope the code doesn't come back but if it does I'll try this first when code comes up to eliminate this as option
