Aurelius - Part 1 is a fan-made (unofficial) animated short film by The 11th Legion Studio.The video is mostly GenAI, excluding some of the music and sound effects. I used Midjourney for images, Runway for animation, Pika for lip sync, Suno for intro music, and Elevenlabs for narration.

I have a feeling that there is going to be a new wave of artists that specialise in cleaning up AI artefacts in art like this. This is a cool concept and all but it needs the human touch.

I have never seen animation so good in 2 points. 1. when the female ship commander is explaining the MIssion, her mouth moves so naturally. Mouth movement is something Hollywood still can't get right in animations. 2. When the transport is departing an old man is looking at the screens. Old age is another thing that has never been done correctly as far as I have seen. I think I stayed about 5 minutes on that shot alone.

The guy who made Astartes made it mostly alone and without any AI tools. It's pixel perfect animation with a great narrative and major film studio quality. Its actually what inspired me to start making this stuff.

Both channels are doing great work, I just remembered Astrtes and when it came out, I must have watched those clips at least 10 times. And I still rewatch it from time to time. But what you have done is astounding, especially the 2 points I mentioned are things that I have criticized and hated about animation in general for a long time. The problem with Mouth movement is that generally, they move both Lips, whereas, in reality, human upper lips have no motion capability without lower Lips. DONT do that, anyone who is reading, I know you are making funny faces trying to move your lower lips. As for old Age, forget animation, even make-ups are doing horrible job.

As people learn to work with AI more and more on projects like this, I can easily foresee entire movie studios putting out great content that turn out to be manned by a single person. We're seeing a new genre being born. Let it be brought into the world guided by the Emperor's hand!

Yes, I see what you mean but no, it wont happen for a long time. That is what the latest actors/writers strikes have been about in hollywood that settled with AI not being used. But for youtube projects like this, 100% and I look forward to seeing more of what can be done. I feel this is but one example of what one dedicated fan with AI can do and I cannot wait to see more of it.

@@wolfblast Why would anyone outside of Hollywood be obligated to care what any union cares about? I'm sure it's not going to happen overnight, but considering how fast Hollywood is disintegrating and how fast indie creators are getting access to more and better tech, it seems inevitable someday.

But consider this; back when the film industry was mainly in New York, and the regulations around producing film got too tight, people migrated to California to continue creating with less regulation. One man studios are already a thing and it can be done from anywhere on the planet with access to sufficient resources. I think we are living in the age of the new migration from 'local' production (Hollywood over the past decades) into decentralized production, where individuals around the globe collaborate to create the art they wish to see. A very exiting time to be around!

@11thLegion- very fair point, in which case I think the actors strikes and all that were related specifically to Hollywood, independents and smaller studios not so much so yes I am very much looking forward to seeing what people like yourself come up with. Can't wait for part 2 😀

Pretty cool, it's one of those things that just don't look too close for to long or things start looking odd but if you enjoy it as a whole and let the little details slide it's pretty nice.

@@instantjizz For sure! I often run into problems with generating Mechanicus assets with Midjourney because there are relatively few images of them in the training data. Takes a lot more time to get one solid image with a distinct 40K Mechanicus aesthetic. Maybe I'll challenge myself and make a video just on them!

It's wild! And its just keeps getting better at an accelerating speed. The new Midjourney character reference function is gonna help out a lot when the characters I generate aren't the generic blue smurf guy with a helmet :)

I am curious why your AI can model Astartes armor so well, yet fail so abominably with spaceships. Can't you feed it 100 images of 40k ships?

I'm using Midjourney to generate the images so at the moment I'm not training my own models. I'm guessing there just aren't enough images of WH40K spaceships in the training data for the model at the moment, but given the rate of development this probably will not be a problem in a year or so. The main issues atm are consistensy (very difficult to get a similar ship from multiple angles), and generating motion in the images. The current img -> video models tend to morph objects in motion if they have many intricate details. The massive gothic style ships have so many details they end up looking like something completely different after a second of motion, so i mainly just try to move the backgrounds around them.
