God I really never wanted him to review Aurora because I knew this would happen

Wow, this is one of the few reviews where the comment section is actually tame and talking about the actual review, and the actual music. Infections of a different kind was and still is her best work, too bad he didn't mention it :(

I personally love this album. The mix between calm atmospheres and upbeat songs is perfect, and her voice, as always, shines.

I have to say, this is one of the most negative 6s that Anthony has given in a while. From how brutal he was being, I was expecting a 4 or 5.

I’m disappointed to hear that this project didn’t do it for you. And everyone who found this video do not take this review to heart and listen to it for yourself, seriously some incredible work here

Still can't believe you slept on Infections Of A Different Kind and A Different Kind Of Human, they're definitely her best work to date. I agree with most of your critiques here, still I'm really a fan of her and her music has a special place in my heart, it always moves me in a beautiful way, and this album wasn't an exception. I did expected a little more adventurous choices artistically, but I also know Aurora's intention with music is just speaking her truth and touching people who resonate with it, which she definitely does ♥️

i beg to differ anthony - maybe i am just relatively new to recent art pop but i found the album to be a breathe of fresh air - for example A Dangerous Thing was stripped back almost singer songwriter like then the rhythms collide with the vocal palette - the vocals throughout were delightful = very atmospheric - Artemis" tells its seductive narrative with a Mediterranean flair - fingerstyle guitar and bandoneon/spanish concertina shines plus layered vocal harmonies and Theremin - gorgeous

surprised there was no mention of "you keep me crawling", the strongest track on the album imo

I really like the song Heathens. But after listening to the album a few times it is true that some parts lack depth. Infections of a different kind is still my favorite album.

Seems like Anthony has a hard time enjoying pop music that is just simple and beautiful. But when it comes to rap he likes songs with some of the dumbest lyrics ever, as long as it’s “transgressive”. It’s a bit weird to me.

This review depresses me. I loved this album a whole lot. It felt like such a brilliant evolution of her music and I loved how much she branched out into different sounds and styles for this record, especially compared to her last. His tone was just so constantly negative and derisive, even when delivering what sounded ostensibly like compliments. Reminds me why I stopped watching these reviews.

I honestly love the spaghetti western sound of blood in the wine, a fun listen for me. Just my opinion tho

Maybe I have a bias for Aurora but I thought this was easily her best work. Maybe she never hits the creative levels I feel she could but I dunno, I love the album. But Aurora herself is a treasure of a person so again I might be biased because she's fantastic herself.

For me great album. But in same time it is very different from her previous work and very diverse. I am totaly surprised it was called "stagnation" . Someone can not like direction or generaly her style but I strongly do not agree it is "stagnation". Also reviewer said it is too much popy then in the same time he chooses and for him shine the most popy songs on album (for me if I would put ranking of songs from new album these two songs are in the middle or under the middle of ranking even if I like them). I respect different opinion, but can not agree.

Honestly, Aurora is always better live, and I almost never like the production on her albums, this being the worst for me personally probably. Like, the productions is always so much more poppy than what she does live, the albums sound like remixes. When the day would come and Aurora would release an album that would be recorded live with a band, it would probably be her best work.

I think Anthony was really hard on the album, but honestly I’m glad someone listened to it and noticed that Aurora missed out on creativity and production. Don’t get me wrong! Aurora is one of my favourite artists of all time and I’m crazy about her music. But it feels like she’s desperate to get into the mainstream, so she used worn out pop formulas (for example, “A temporary high” is a copy-paste of Dua Lipa’s “Physical”; “You keep me crawling” is an “I will survive”-like hymn; and if you sing Cure For Me on top of “The Innocent” and “Heathens”, the structures fit perfectly. Many lyrics on the album are very good, and the melodies are great! But the production is awfully weak (ex: the beat on “Everything Matters” is so disappointing).

Coming off of every other reviewer I've seen that absolutely loved it here comes Anthony to drive a dagger through my heart lol. I think it's interesting how he talks a lot about the production but never makes any mention of the best voice to ever grace my ears.

There's one thing that inherently hurts me about all the AURORA releases She's got that Bjork-like charisma, yet she doesn't seem to double-down on it artistically. Though her arrangements are often vast, they don't really hit deep, they're usually one step too generic.

Sad you skipped over Infection Of A Different Kind, her best album to date yet by far for me. I still totally see your points and have to agree. Aurora for me is more than the music its her whole artistry and being a lovable human being (which is something you obviously can’t take into measure when doing a review)

This album is easily her best work to date. I suggest everyone who watched this video to try and listen to her songs before giving a final evaluation. This album moved my soul in so many ways. Listen with your heart instead of just your ears and you will see 🌝

I have mix-feelings about this album... I partially agree with your sentiment... I do feel like lyrically and emotionally she's remaining on a space that is comfortable to her, within her "brand". Although I haven't figured out yet why does it feel a little gimmicky/like a character that doesn't fit anymore on this album, when I never got that impression previously... Maybe it's just the vocal choices she's making?? However, I would have to argue that production-wise/music influences-wise, I can clearly hear how, on this project, she tried broadening her spectrum and make something with a more broad-modern appeal. Well, I guess I can't expect everything to be as brilliant and carefully crafted as "Infections of a Different Kind" + "A Different Kind of Human". Those albums put the bar pretty high for me. Also, I would like to note that, personally, I believe "Exist for love" is a gorgeous ballad. Breathe-taking. The topic is very simple, but it sounds so gorgeous, I love the melody. I do feel like you're being a little unfair though, since you seem to be expecting her to be super experimental... When her intention seems to have a broad appeal and be relatively approachable/pop-friendly. I don't think she's trying to be "crazy experimental" here. In fact, I've never had the impression of her wanting to be super experimental, I think she wanted a sound that was more folkloric and angelic, as opposed to pushing boundaries sonically. So, she's not trying to go on the same lane than Björk or Arca, and that's fine. She's not Björk. Still, I really want to hear her explore other parts of her voice... A 7/10 for me.

The album is pretty good. Everything Matters is such a great track. The melodies are amazing on that song. Cure for me did nothing for me. Doesn't really feel like an Aurora song.

If you think Aurora is not creative or sterile, I’d really like to know what kind of music you listen to that’s just so amazing? Please I’m curious... I think people who are more in touch with their emotions are the ones that connect the most with Aurora’s music, it’s an emotional experience and honestly I don’t find any pop music that gives me the same effect.

Wow, this review is really negative. Perhaps it’s just because I feel a lot more connected with Aurora and her music, but I think this album is absolutely stunning. This made me a little bit sad tbh because I can really reel the emotion and message in each song, and to hear all that be dismissed because it sounds “plain” to you is interesting. Of course you are subject to your own opinions, this video just seems quite a roast.

Why so much negativity?

This person doing the review doesnt have a clue as to the uniqueness of Aurora because he has other priorities other than lyrics, voice, melody, production, emotion and yes originality. .He doesnt have music experience to identify originality so I wonder where he received his training of music? Oh, thats right he doent have any music training. He is some guy off the street that decided to start a site and give his opinion. It is easy to criticize when you dont know what you are talking about which from what I hear he does a lot with other artists. Well he is entitled to his opinion like everyone else.

I will have to respectfully disagree my fren, I thought it truly was ~ the embodiment of beauty. And I’m a metal listener. Screamo particularly. I’ve found Aurora and man. Wow. Beautiful. The vocals, the ether of it. It’s really an amazing body of work that you can tell the girl put her soul into to perfect. And perfect, it has truly been. I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to discover an artist. Sometimes we fail to understand that as a human, our ambitions ARE human. We have to attempt to create something beautiful, something impressive. You don’t appreciate how hard that really is to start from scratch and write and produce all of her own melodies, lyrics and music. She’s done a simply incredible job at achieving that. Blew my mind. Exist for love? It’s like opening a veil into the realm of Gods and being awash with this ethereal angelic serenade. A human did that. A human did that from scratch. To evoke that type of emotion out of anyone of us; through music alone. Is wild. Aurora should be infinitely proud of herself, because it’s incredible.

Sounds like every criticism in this review would be a valid production choice if the aim was to garner higher streaming numbers, and to go in the direction Anthony would prefer would be a financial liability.

One thing I wish this album had was a little more cohesion. Reading the comments I see that she was branching out her style with this one so she was trying a lot of new things, but it lacked a musical through-line for me. Definitely liked some songs on here though.

I don't watch a lot of you since I have yet to agree with you on anything. But since this album means a lot to me I gave it a try. Now I just wish I could take my view back. I expected nothing and was still disappointed. I'm even almost convinced you didn't actually listen to it multiple times. To me the songs I didn't really like just became better each time (besides Exist For Love). But hey, now I at least know to never click on one of your videos again, so that's a plus.

A light 6 seems fair. I personally really liked it (would give it an 8), but it was the Aurora album that stuck the least with me emotionally. Cure for Me is definetly the song that stands out the most for me.

Wow, I’ve never disagreed with a Fantano review more. I checked out the rest of the album after hearing Cure for Me on TikTok, and while half of the album is definitely very contemporary millennial pop (which turned out to be in line with the rest of her discography), the other half is utterly fantastic.

Real music experts gave her really cool reviews, so I stay with those

Aurora makes music for herself , she always has done ,"Her Babies" if her audience like it then its a bonus for her. I dont think Aurora is striving for international stardom , she not going to be pictured sneaking out of a hotel room of some other married artist in the early hours of the morning , her fans can easily access her at numerous small venues at affordable prices for as little as £23 here in the UK , she likes to feel as one with her audience and to talk and laugh with them. Regards your comment about sounding like something Billie Eilish would do , do your research is all im going to say on that. I believe if Aurora was in total control of her output we would be hearing a different Album and it might be better our worse than this one , we just dont know . Her fanbase know what to expect from her and so she can do no wrong although some may not like all the tracks its still what Aurora is. My God she never envisaged being who she is now when she was 15/16 , she just wrote for herself and hopefully will continue to do so. She has said she would like to do an Heavy Metal album , i think she will have a go , maybe not quite Metallica or AC'DC but good on her if she did. To sum up she has bought out an album which is a little different from her last two but still hit the UK charts straight in at No8 , is not everyones cup of tea so to speak but without variety we would all be listening to the same thing. It would be interesting to know what your favourite albums are in your collection

It's always fascinating to me how such superb music can fall on such deaf ears.

I love this album and to me it's a 10, I think in this project aurora tried to go in another way, with different sounds and I enjoy it, but her ep infections of a different kind still my favorite, it's damn beautiful.

I thought this was her best album yet. It is most cohesive in terms of theming. Very folky and primal which are my favorite songs from her.

This review......is objective proof that music is utterly subjective. I'm sure every hardcore Aurora fan knows what I mean.... Any time I hear people talk about Aurora this way....I want to force them to watch her Nidarosdomen show. Because if you don't get it after that....then she's simply not for you. I will say...her newest single, The Woman I Am is STUNNING. It's fairly upbeat and playful...which I didn't think I'd like. I like the darker moodier epic stuff. But man....this song is just too perfect to dislike. It's joyous incredibly well written pop with a ton of heart and soul. I cannot wait to see where she goes next. But hey....I am a W&W for life, so I'm way more than a bit biased. ;) I honestly think Aurora is one of my favorite human beings to have ever existed. She and her music mean a tremendous amount to me. It's just a little bit of a bummer when other people don't get it. Tho I honestly didn't expect Anthony to like it. I could just tell he wouldn't lol...

Here's the thing about Aurora: she's not the artsiest art-pop artist, she's not the electroist electropop act, she's not the folkiest folk singer. But if you want something that beautifully weaves the three together and don't WANT to dive into the deep end on any of those fronts, she makes extremely listenable and catchy tracks in the intersection of that venn diagram. Yeah, she's not Björking out to the extent that Björk does, but sometimes you don't want to do that. I think it's fine to just make beautiful music while painting within the lines that other artists pushed outwards for you. Aurora isn't a visionary or innovator like her predecessors, but she is nicely camped out in the territory that they surveyed years ago. It's not new ground, but it's not so well trodden that it's boring.

Strong 7. This is my first exposure to Aurora, and I'm really loving it. Almost all of the musical ideas really got their hooks in on me, especially once I first heard "Cure for Me." Maybe it's just because I'm less experience with music and haven't played it enough to get sick of it, but so far I kinda love it and I'm gonna give it another shot. We'll see how it works out at the end of the year or whenever else I'm done thinking about 2022 music.

I actually started listening to Aurora with this record, and while I'm not familiar with the rest of her work or even pop/art pop music in general, I feel like your thoughts on Exist for Love have a tad bit of "old man grumpiness" to them. I agree that lyrically it can certainly feel sappy, but the performance that Aurora brings along with it ends up making it a very, very sweet song, and the instrumental ups and downs are like the moments of both tranquility nd intensity one can feel while in love, which I think is something she is trying to portray in this track. Still, I'm glad I listened to this album and this review so I can further listen to her work tbh, so thanks Melon.

If I may , I think his comparisons to like the norm or what he's accustomed to and where he wants her to go , may or may not be ruin this for him .Like at its core Aurora isn't trying to be anything or do anything , it's just purely herself and exploring her ideas , thoughts and feelings( with a little bit of folklore and mythology) , she isn't trying to be poppy nor fit into a branch , these songs if honest have unusual pauses and deep lyrics and funny tempos

I honestly have to credit Frozen 2 for my discovery of Aurora. I’ve boughten all her albums and I think each one is fantastic. The River remains one of my favorite songs of her’s.

I always find it funny how Anthony sometimes complains that an album sounds "too pretty" or "too cleanly produced", like it's a negative. It's like: "so pretty and clean, eeew". It's funny to me for some reason.
