Yes!! Add more trees so there’s more shade trying to walk across downtown

This sounds lovely! Congratulations to those instrumental in bringing this funding to Austin. Very nicely done!

Dallas has had these for years, glad Austin is finally following suit.

A lot of what you said is easier said than done. Thats what the caps are for. I know a lot of people don't understand what they are because Austin doesnt really have any. You can build things, such as more roads, HOV lanes, buikdings, parks, etc ON TOP OF caps. Those upper decks you mentioned? They're KINDA like that but instead of two seperate upper decks with a huge hole in the middle waaaay up in tye sky, its a cap on the ground, one roadway connecyed, and the highway under it is a tunnel. Like in other big cities (especially in the Northeast such as Boston and New York City)

Agreed. I love the idea but the next 7-10yrs will be brutal driving through downtown. I hope TXDOT cuts toll rates (maybe 30-50%) for 18-wheelers on 130. That can eliminate some of the traffic.

Austin needs to continue to apply for more money to start the underground tunnel beginning before Holly Street instead of starting at Caesar Chavez Street. The majority of East Austin that needs to be connected is that area as well since that point is where East Austin begins. It also means more land area for open parkland since that area has more land mass than from Caesar Chavez to 8th which will add only a small slither of parkland...

There are 11 or more roads that go over/under I-35 connecting east to west Austin, from Airport Bldv. to Oltorf. You can widen the bridges connection east and west, but they will hit a bottleneck when crossing into west downtown. No room for expansion. Maybe adding just footpaths and/or bike lanes to the existing bridges. Then extend the upper level bridges starting at Airport and go south to Riverside or Oltorf, making them EXPRESS LANES ONLY thru downtown. East Austin has already undergone huge population changes since I moved here in ’85. There is no racism, only gentrification.

💯 agreed. By the time this project is finished, whatever minority population lives on the East side will be further pushed towards Dell Valley, Manor etc.

100% IRRESPONSIBLE! Look at the picture. There’s barely any guardrails between the walkways and the lower deck. You could literally walk over the edge. Or a dog could fall over. Someone is going to die because of this bad design.
