Yep. Something to consider. Good thing is that the tool still works and you can have access to backlog updates if on a budget and you skip a year or 2. But very fair observation!
These are answers to questions I've had for a while now. I own several tools, the autel mk808bt, being one of them and the one I use the most. Thanks for this chief. Read what you're about, I'm pretty impressed to learn youre a medical doctor. I'm an economist myself, turned automotive technician. If I'm not asking too much, I like to get to know you better, hence I checked for an email address and found none.
Well looks like I got taken😔 just bought an mk808 pro for $600. If this thing costs what you are showing to update that is insane!!!! I could see maybe $100 / year or maybe based on what platforms you want updated. I don't work on pretty much 90% of the makes or models included.
under 2 minutes in and you hit the nail on the head......they call them upgrades....they really are Bug fixes lol I'm a cnc machinist (not a mechanic) . The cad/cam people pulled this stunt all the time. You call them and complain about a specific function that does not work...They fix it eventually and release a new version. Then mysteriously something is not comparable and you need the new version. They have a good racket going on!!!!!! Bought the Autel 906bt for family use
The costs of the updates seriously discourage a purchase. I would like a scanner like this for personal use. I do not run a repair operation. I just want all the functions for my own vehicles, perhaps a different model every 2 or 3 years. The update cost is like buying a new scanner. Is there an option to buy updates for individual vehicles?
I hear you! I also have this just for DIY work. Autel doesn't have a plan for individual vehicles on this tool except you want to check out the MaxiAP200. It's a smaller device that works with phones. You have the opportunity to buy access by individual car makes per year. You will have one free software for a vehicle of your choice (lifetime). The annual fee per car make is $21.99. This covers updates and use of the manufacturer software.
Every bi directional scanner had to be updated. You can get cheaper scanners with free updates, like lauch. Alot of us shops sell our scanners and get new ones every few years vs paying for updates. It is ridiculous that they cost so much. What's even worse is updates normally cost almost as much as the scanner. Also depending on model can be more, example the newer mk906 to update is $1000 vs the 906bt around $400.
@Jo Speers dis you buy your scanner used? Never buy a used scanner because mechanics sell them when updates are due. You can buy a new scanner for the price of an update. I picked my model ( 906bt) because of the price if the updates. The 906bt pretty much does as much as the mk model but the updates are 400-600 vs 1000-1200
Buy the ts508 it can also use the autel tpms sensors, it has an obd2 cable so you can program by obd2 and it has free lifetime updates. I bought this ts608 last year I don’t do much tpms stuff, I knew I would have to pay for an update once a year but I didn’t realize it was 300 bucks. I paid 600 for the tablet why would I want to pay 300 to update? I figured it would be like 100 bucks and I also would be able to use it for light engine diagnostic stuff but not I’m pissed I bought it! For years I had the ts401 and I just wanted to upgrade to one that had obd2 and I let someone talk me into this tablet. I’m pissed I bought it. Had I known even a few months ago while my subscription was still valid I would have sold it to buy the ts508 that has free updates. It makes absolutely no sense that you get free updates with the 508 and not 608 both are tpms both do the same things
thanks very much for the information. if i may ask can you still use the device after subscription has expired. or will the device be locked? thanks 😊 and stay blessed
I’m looking for a scanner for my own personal stuff and maybe a friends but don’t want to have to pay for updates since i don’t ever plan on buying a new car
Will depend on your budget and the functions you'd want out of the scanner. If you want these tablet-style devices and care about bidirectional capability I've reviewed the XTOOL D7, the Autel MK808 is also solid. I most recently got the TOPDON ArtiDiag800BT; no bidirectional ability, but free life time updates with 28 special functions. You could look at some of these. There will be cheaper options if you consider the Bluetooth dongle scanners.
I'd say it depends on the cars you work on (e.g. Do you need the latest DoIP protocol), plus do you need more hardware? I did a speed test between the old and new versions, it didn't change much though. Also how good is your battery life?
Obviously you seem to favor Autel, have you tried any other scanners, Launch, Ancel, Top don or Xtool, if you had to pick a scanner for a knowledgeable and experienced DIYer, that was reasonably affordably ($350-800), what would you recommend ? Which is best for transmission work/diagnosis ?
Autel was my first professional scanner, and what I had for a while, so a lot of my earlier scanner videos are on this Autel. No experience with Ancel or Launch. I reviewed a TopDon scanner; Artidiag800BT, which I didn't like, though I have to say it's a lifetime tool, so some compromise on features is expected. I have loads of experience with XTOOL scanners. I've reviewed a couple. To answer your question on which to choose on a $350 - 800 budget, it really depends. If you would be into key programming and have a premium on speed, I would recommend XTOOL over Autel. However, XTOOL is more likely to have bugs although customer care is the best I've seen. They rollout bug fixes even on an individual basis. Autel is more refined, slower, but more user friendly. If subscription fees are a concern XTOOL would be your best bet. They're comparatively cheaper and generally have more complimentary years of subscription.
@@DIYAutoworksNG I know you have done some videos about Autel's subscription and whether it will work in future or not, I watched one of them, I've found a deal on a Autel 906MS Maxisys, it's a killer deal, seems like a lot of these RU-vid videos they use Autel's, but also see a few who complain about them not working, what's the bottom line, do they keep working after subscription runs out ? My brother has an older Autel, its way past its 1 yr and works fine, just can't hook it up to internet ?
Mine worked fine without a subscription too. The thing people neglect is creating a backup. If you don't do this and ever have an issue, you won't be able to get your updates/apps back except you pay for a subscription. If you're looking at the discounted MaxiSYS, also take into account it's renewal fees. You never know. Yea, I've seen some people say they had issues. I just haven't had. I have 3 Autel scanners that should be expiring soon and I'll leave them out of subscription for another round of observations. On your brother tool, do you mean connection to Autel servers or just connecting to the Internet via the included web browser?
I have 2018 honda accord touring my screen stereo is blinking doesn't turn on. Need to update or something else you're recommendation will help me thanks
So what exactly are you backing up when you say you need to backup the scanner so as not to lose anything if your subscription expires ? You backing up to a PC, USB drive or what ?
Hi. You can watch this video, it's exactly the same for the MaxiCOM. It covers registration and updating apps. Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.
Great you are supporting your husband's repair work! As I covered in the video, he will need to pay the appropriate annual fee for a new lisense. What is the exact model number for his MaxiCOM? He can buy directly through the Autel site. He will login and click 'renew' and pay with a card. Alternatively, he searches for an authorized Autel distributor and buys from them (generally cheaper, but he will need to ensure he is buying from a genuine Autel dealer).
I own a Maxisys MS906 TS which I paid a lifetime subscription for. Problem is, After 3 years if usage, I can no longer access TPMs and some other functions until I pay for a subscription. Have in mind that I paid for a lifetime package. What could be the issue?
Hi.let us say that I download only 3 car manufacturers to my autel device, and my subscription ends on December 2020. Will I be able to download more car manufacturers after the subscription ends? I know that I cannot have more updates, but will I be able to add or remove car manufacturers after the end of subscription, so I can save more memory to my device?
It really depends. Both have similar functionality with the pad3 having the advantage for advanced key programming (comes with added accessories for key programming). So really, it just depends on what you are focused on, if you are into keys then the pad3 has the edge.
Yes, in principle. A few limitations on a small set of cars, not specifically EVAP though. I go into details on the MP808TS and other Autel tool functionality after subscription expires in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LbjuKp1rYXA.html You may find it useful.
J'ai lu votre commentaire avec Google Traduction!
Nope. You don't loose functions. I covered using this tool out of subscription and demonstrated what still works in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LbjuKp1rYXA.html
Machine will still work but I'd not "fully " functional. This is because some of the operations of the tool require it to be connected to the Internet while on the vehicle. If you only use it for basic "code reading" your OK.
I agree. At the end of the day it depends on the car. For my Honda everything still works. But as you state, any advanced function that would require connection to Autel servers won't.
So... Without subscription, you get no bidirectional functions???? might as well buy a cheap one without bidirectional then. What if u miss a year of subscription, they make u pay for 2 years?
If you wait for the summer or Black Friday, they usually run sales. Up to 40% off, depending on the tool. See this video I did earlier on how I renewed mine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CbrJg-KP7ZE.html
