I do something a little different in this video. I write a renaming droplet from start to finish to show you an example of how AppleScript can save you hours on repetitive work.
If you've watched this video and would like to learn more about how to AppleScript, you can check out my other bite-sized tutorial videos where I walk you through bits and pieces of how to write your own AppleScripts.

This is a really awesome video; well structured, great clarity, in a good pace. I immediately subscribed and looking forward to see more of your videos. Fantastic job, thank you for creating a text introduction description of the video.

I'm having trouble picking this up. I'd like to use AppleScript to insert my Capture One 22 image filename into the title so I can organize my photos in my Mac Photos album. I know this can be done but I don't know if I have enough years left to figure it out.

Awesome content. I learned a lot. I wonder: after "re-naming" some files, why I cannot "undo" the re-naming action? Command + Z does not work. Any thoughts on that? Thank you so much in advance.

The actions of this AppleScript are not managed by the OS the same way the actions of a user are handled. The script is not calling in the Finder to do the rename, so the Finder does not know about the action the same way it would if a user made the change. Essentially, the Finder is the part of the OS that is managing the ability to “undo” something, and in this case the Finder didn’t initiate the change.

Well, this video is awesome. Its great that u explain how to manipulate the string of the file name. Thx! Could u do a video showing how to find duplicate files? I dont know how to do many parts of what is required for such. I believe we must first find all files and generate a hashsum for each and store on a list. Then we would need to compare items to identify duplicates while making sure items identified as not duplicate arent tested more than once, and also storing the items found as being duplicate on a separate list to then manipulate the duplicate files as desired, being moving or removing them for example. If u could throw some light on this scenario would be very cool. Thx once again bro

Hey Dan, thanks so much for the comment. I think the way you’re thinking about the “duplicates” script is sound logic and likely exactly how I would approach it. I once wrote a script similar to that for identifying duplicate photos. It did exactly what you’re saying, did a checksum of the file and wrote that as well as the full path of every image to a file (a database would be even better). Once it had all that info documented, it could then look for all the duplicate checksum values and move the files to the trash or a “review” folder. I’ll make a note of this request and if I have some time I’ll see about making a video on it. Thanks again!

@@ClickingKeys cool, thank u for replying. And yeah, whenever u can do that video is fine. I am still solidifying the concepts of loops and nested loops. Will be nice seeing those interactions working correctly.

Actually it occurs to me that this has nothing to do with Capture One. I just want to export images from Capture One and then insert the filename into the title.

Hey Steve, I’ve never tried to script Capture One. From Script Editor, you can try and open a dictionary for Capture One to see what options it has, if any.

Hey xxgamer_animator. Sorry you didn’t have luck with the script. I’m sure there is a simple explanation. Probably a small error in the code.
