The "other" Avant Quad I show in the video is NOT a Ciro3, its the Avio3. So the Question: What do you prefer in a micro: No props in view? Top Mount battery? Micro FreeStyle Designed Quad. Use avant5nb for 5% off any quad at AvantQuads.com Ciro3 FreeStyle here bit.ly/3wh8CFW Ciro3 FreeStyle HD/DJI here bit.ly/3oznQDF
I like props in view for the Insta360 GO, gives you some of that "3PV" feel. I bought the Avio based on Nick's review and love it. Stuck a 3d printed camera mount on the top and I can barely tell it's there: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jr2KSm5fPVY.html I did have a pretty bad crash that broke the surface mount connector off the VTX, I don't think it would have happened if it was soldered directly, but I can't really blame them for that, I bottomed out hard trying to power loop my porch :)
When you have to work hard to find faults with a quad, that is a good thing. You are " biased " towards high quality builds. That is not a bad thing, a review does not have to be negative if the product is really , really good. Excellent stuff as usual, Nick !!
I was gonna buy the Avio3 in digital version but after watching UAV Tech's review of the analog version you also did a review on, Nick, I bought the Emax Babyhawk 2 HD digital instead. UAV Tech broke an arm on that Avio3 by just flying around his yard while doing the review! Damn, it's gotta be stronger than that if they want my hard earned cash! lol And, the digital version would be heavier too. They look like nice quads, but IMO the Babyhawk 2 HD looked even nicer! Every single review on it people rave up one end and down the other about it. I also liked how you simply use a bigger battery and it becomes a long range quad. Nurk got 22 minutes with it! I also think the Babyhawk 2 hd is a better value. You also can build the Avio3 or this Ciro yourself and save a few bucks, because Avant charges full retail for every single part including every single 3D printed part! Especially if you found a coupon code for some or all of the parts and bought them elsewhere. I had a tough time adding up every little bitty part and getting to their asking price for the Avio3! Not what you'd call a deal, that's for sure. Essentially full boat RETAIL!!! :(
Nick....I had been a Avant Quads owner long before you found it, but you have spent a lot of my hobby money on Avant Quads since (forcing me to hit the BUY button). Good stuff and Love their models. Top Shelf all the way. Great review.
Nick you should check out the Armattan battery pad, it's foam but with a layer of sticky rubber on top. I like it because it's thick enough to get you up above the screw heads without being heavy solid rubber
Just got my first 2 packs through my new ciro 3 and wow! Is about all I can say it's a whole lot of firsts for me first 3 inch first 4s and first cadex camera. And again wow! From a total noobs prospective this was the easiest and fastest quad I have setup(or didnt have to i should say) so far. All around winner and the build quality is exactly like in this video super sweet and clean. I just wanted to leave a comment again because this is exactly as described and its great!!
Fantastic flying, Nick! 😃 Pretty interesting little quad! Seems like something in the middle between a classic 3" and a toothpick! Great review! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I like this frame, I really wanna build it if not buy a bnf. Seems to handle very slick. Im currently doing an analog/DVR build on an iflight DC3 frame
@Nick Burns its not gaffers tape but it’s pretty similar I’m a skydiver and we use gaffers tape I’ve tried gaffers tape and it’s just not quite the same.
Its funny, how many times I have been told the tape is this or that. You being a skydiver freaks me out some. I have an issue with heights. If I look up at a building or otherwise lose the horizon in my peripheral vision I fall over. :)
@@NickBurnsFPV the thing is when your up real high in a plane or helicopter you don’t have anything to reference how high you are. Bottom line is avant- is super awesome eddy is great and I hope they can ship to Canada again
Thanks for the good review. What I wrote below was way to negative I figured after a bit of research for the price a quality build seems actually quite good and limited receiver (or other) choices seem sensible in a way. -But as a "beginner" I am a bit confused about one point. I buy a "cheap" tiny whoop with an SPI receiver and a "cheap" radio (Jumper T-Lite) and have telemetry and figure out how to report low battery to my radio (and get RSSI, and whatever I don't know about yet) and think wonderful state-of-the-(cheap)-art. Then I a proceed to something more "quality" and expect the same only better (..., haven't had to many problems to say more robust more range, but sth. like that).- -Then I find out the dedicated receiver on the high quality model can't do telemetry. Confusing and should be mentioned (in my case HGLRC petrel120x (2s), ordered with XM+, an R-XSR would have been available only I didn't know i want it). If I put enough effort in it I can probably build a relative high quality quad myself and choose what I want to build it, but a quality "bind'n'fly" should offer what a budget product does, if it is only about a 5-10$ plus for a better receiver and it should point customers to it.- -I wonder if that is a current newbie issue, because of the current state-of-the-art or if posh product producers expect their customers to order no-rx anyway because there are so many choices (are there?) and the XM+ is just a placeholder for people who have no clue? The CRSFR I guess has Telemetry but that is a specific path which is maybe not so appealing to newbies as we see a lot about openLRS and who know what's next.- -Well I have my first soldering iron and I'll figure out how to use it :) BTW I am from the EU, where the current "execution order" generally denies flying FPV without spotter, that's why I am a bit focused on RC telemetry to get the data I otherwise can see on the FPV monitor (indoors :)).-
racers would KILL way more batteries if they were all top mounted, think of the direction of travel, the object and the physics... the battery and camera are the first things to make contact with the gates, and we all know batteries are expensive.
I just bought it this morning! 🤙🏻 looks like i’m waiting on them to get some components (back order) but no biggie. I also requested Red tpu and a Lhcp vtx antenna and was told i can’t do either. So $280 on a new quad and i can’t even choose the vtx antenna i want? Hmmm…A little disappointed - but oh well, place another RDQ order. 🤣😆🙄
They are a small shop and I am not sure if they offer options limited to launch or otherwise. Interested in the LHCP, you run LH so as to fly with groups or just how you got started and stayed with it?
Interesting, good review Nick. The 4 HD Freestyle looks good as well. The only thing I am concerned about is the long thin top plate with no middle support. GepRC does that as well and I have see them crack after crashes on harder surfaces (concrete) when the top mount battery hits first. Not an everyday occurrence and I am sure it saves weight, but I have seen it twice when flying with friends.
By the off chance you read this, Do you remember what the battery connector is? Xt30 or XT60? Just bought this drone and no where on there site does it say what type of battery connector it has.
Hmm, I've been waiting for the Diatone GTB339 to come back in stock, but it doesn't look like it will anytime soon, if at all. I just might have to pick this up instead! Great video as always.
@@FineVisionz typically less than two weeks. I believe they ship everything DHL which is the most reliable service, and often the fastest. I have seen items sit at customs recently for a week or even 10 days.
Iv got a question! I love how small these cameras are and wanted to make somthing that i can record as well for a project similar to a gopro but smaller with a 35mm lens whats a good wat to go about this?
I think you probably want to look at something like the caddx baby turtle or the runcam split series of cameras. These record in higher resolution and the recording is built into the board attached to the camera. Then you only need to look at power source, which for most is 7v-20v and designing a case to put it in.
@@NickBurnsFPV do you think the nexa’s performance is better or about the same? I know you said it’s the best overall 3 inch. Also do you think 3.5 would be better than 3 for me coming from only 5 inch quads?
@@jmillerfpv close to the same. If looking at 3.5 I would jump to a 4inch the size and weight difference is small and the efficiency and ability to carry a gopro or the like is better. 3inch is fairly distinct category as they are pretty small and get us below 250grams with really good performance. The overall performance of 3.5-4inch isn't dramatically different from a 3inch but the efficiency is greater with each step up in prop size.
@@NickBurnsFPV I didn’t see a nexa 4 inch in analog. They only have Digital. I was planning to carry a insta 360 go2. I really liked the new Avio 4 bnf but I fly freestyle and idk how I’d like that bottom mount battery.
As you likely know they are very similar using nearly the exact same components. I think the choice largely comes down to flight style. If you like to go fast and turn hard, avio3, if you tend to be more smooth and take longer lines then Ciro3.
Looks great, how would you compare this to the Baby Hawk HD II you reviewed recently ? Are they comparable ? Thanks if you get a chance to read or answer with any thoughts.
I bought the Babyhawk 2 HD. For one, this is analog. For two, the Emax is better quality, IMO. UAV Tech did a review on the Avio3 analog, and broke an arm while just flying it around his yard! Not a great quality frame, that's for sure. Thinner than the 4mm Babyhawk arms. None of the cross bracing for reinforcement either. You can go watch his video to see it. I'm not impressed with the Avio, and I too was really considering buying it. They do charge you FULL BOAT RETAIL for every single little itty bitty part including the 3D printed ones. I couldn't get it to add up to what they are selling it for, and the prices just went up even more! If I buy a BNF or PNP quad, I feel like we should pay less than what all the parts sell for retail. Otherwise, why wouldn't I simply build it myself and CHERRY PICK the exact parts I WANT instead of ones Avant picks. I think the Babyhawk 2 HD is a better value and every single review on it raves about EVERYTHING! Mine will arrive this Thursday. GetFPV had them in stock just a week ago. Most are sold out of it! GOOD LUCK! :)
I think the babyhawk II HD has more aggressive flight potential. But secure that battery led down on the BabyHawk II HD. I have seen more than a hand full with the wires ripped right off the esc.
Couldn't they have shortened up the standoffs a little? I kinda dislike that empty space air gap look between the top plate and the stack and the rest of the components. More and more these days frames are using this 'Low profile" frame style.
@@NickBurnsFPV I mean "that's what she said" would be the first thing coming to my mind, but this is a family friendly channel. Maybe it still says something along those lines and it's cropped out for a reason 🤔
@@NickBurnsFPVshorter standoffs and a different 3D print are very minor changes. I see why but better for end users to make the analogue version lighter and with better CG.
Well thank you very much. Hopefully it is some of both, I have been working on dropping some weight. Generally just eating better and a more appropriate amount. :)
Kind of a weak vtx at 200 max. Bummer. Also the price has increased well above 200, especially when you factor in the extra top plate which is the definite weak point, the bottom plate that is all in one instead of replaceable arms, extra props, etc....If the base price for this was at 150-175 it would be an easy sell.
i love how you make a big deal out of the zip tie battery leads , even tho it's a small thing it's important and the company's that do it should be embraced for doing it to make other companies do it too
