I just moved to Clayton from Walnut Creek and Rachel's assessment is pretty much right on the money. The major drawback to living in Clayton is probably traffic, but if you telecommute or are retired, the picture brightens considerably. One big plus that Rachel did not mention is that although housing in Clayton is limited, it is far less expensive than in neighboring communities such as Walnut Creek, Danville, Alamo, Lafayette, Orinda, and Pleasant Hill.

Yes totally agree with you on the housing but a lot of people are starting to consider that area so the prices are creeping up each year. :/

aside from safety, there are none. Then again, pretty much any small town is safe.

Fuck no. I moved out of Clayton almost ten years ago and couldn't be happier. Bunch of snobbish, superficial yuppies that think they live in Danville.

But still much cheaper than Walnut Creek, Lafayette etc since we are far from the freeway. It’s a remote workers paradise!!

I grew up in Clayton. It was a great town in the 1980s. Sadly, the yuppies invaded in 1990 and have not left. I moved to Martinez and it is far superior to this snobbish, pseudo Danville.

Clayton is far from snobbish. I have lived in Walnut Creek and have friends who lived in Danville. The people here are super friendly and nice.

@John Tashjian it's not cherry picking. I've acknowledged in the past there are friendly people in Clayton but that wasn't my overall experience You try dealing with gossip mongers who pumped you for info after your parents split, racists at Ed's Mudville Grill who sneared at you for dining with a Black woman, an inept police dept who was sued for racial profiling after they disrespected your friend, a bunch of yuppies who constantly tormented a good high school friend, snobs who transformed middle class suburbia into a place where nothing but mansions are constructed, etc. Just an FYI: I dislike Walnut Creek, too
