Forget the 2nd rounder. Connor Timmins was the only 2nd round pick since 2011 to play meaningful minutes in the NHL, and he was traded and is now always injured. By the time that 2nd rounder is an everyday NHL player, our window could be closed, but Eller helps get you closer to a cup today.
Good trade. Perfect world they retain 50% instead and its a 3rd, but what will likely be a late 2nd probably won't yield impact player for 4-5 years if at all and we are in win now mode. With the way injures going this year, any nhl caliber depth is welcome, especially a center who can play also wing and likely has bit more offensive pop left in him than current stats show.
^this. the kid going to the Caps (if they don't trade the pick sometime over the next 3 YEARS) is currently still in high school. if you can understand that the value diminishes on a pick the further out it is, you'll realize we didn't actually give up much.
@@peterbauman I'd respectfully disagree with that. Lots of solid players have been drafted in the latter rounds of the draft. Also, as a Rangers fan. The trade for Tara has ended up being a bad one thus far. You can tell there is almost no chemistry on the lines Tara has played on. King Hank, the Rangers former star goalie was a 7th round pick. It all depends on how good of a scouting team the organization has.
@@delsanravelvetheart4365 I'm talking about the time when the pick will vest (2025), not the actual round of the pick. this pick is 3 years away from even happening, and that decreases the value of the pick. The player this draft pick will yield likely won't even see NHL ice until 2028-29? and that's IF they actually nail the pick, which is never a given, especially in the 2nd round. I'll take adding a player the FO deems a fit that contributes toward potentially repeating during this window the Avs have with this group over a '25 second-rounder. And as for the Avs scouting? They've proven time and again over the past 5 years that they're the best in the biz. There's a reason even the ESPN writers joke now that people should stop trading with the Avs.
@@peterbauman I get what your saying. However, Lars isn't worth a second round pick. His best years are behind him for a player who hasn't even reach a 40 point once during his career isn't great and has a career plus/minus of -28. If it was a fourth round pick or later, I'd have zero issue with this trade. It's the fact they gave up a second rounder even if it's in 2025 for someone who is a mid/low tier player. That is a third line center at best, on this roster.
I think the trade is not great in a vacuum and even worse considering what every other team is doing. When everyone else gets impact players and the Avs don’t then we get worse by comparison.
I gotta be honest. I know Lars is a decent player. I don't think the Avs needed to make this trade. The chemistry they current have was good enough for them to make the playoffs and get almost a full healthy roster going into the playoffs. I give this trade a 3/10 as it stands right now.
360 points in almost 1000 games is solid????? Maybe for a d-man.... it's hard for me to take you seriously when you make silly statements like that. Lars Eller is not the answer, the avalanche haven't looked all that good this season and quite frankly the Eller trade was more to pacify the fans. This team is not going back to back.
