I'll be staying with the Axe FX IIXL for the foreseeable future but look forward to seeing what you guyz are able to do with the III!!! Should be fun...
I bought an ax-fx XL+ in 2015. I think this device is still very good for me and dont need the new stuff of the III. If i sold my ii for a iii, i will lose lot a money. Cost me 4000$ CAD for the ii. I only playing in my living room alone.
The Axe Fx II is still great. I have the Axe Fx III now but that is only because a guy here in my town that had one for sale. If it wasn't for that I still would have had my Axe Fx II...

Well I guess it's bigger and you need a new pedalboard for it so that makes it a new thing. I can't understand if people think that this is going to be something else sound wise. I mean it's the same thing as before just bigger and better and it cost more...
The rumours about the Axe Fx III is true. Today Fractal Audio launched it on their website. So the big question is, should I buy the Axe Fx II? Will it be worth buying the Axe Fx III and sell your Axe Fx II.
What car do you have? Just kidding. I just bought my XL+ in November. I thought I had more time before the III came out, so I feel stupid. Now I have to see if anyone will buy my 3 month old XL+ from me. The III is worth it to me because the main change I wanted to see were those four knobs being set up to be straightforward preamp pots. Them adding the fifth one just makes that even better. I'll still use Axe Edit when at home, but this is a better front panel for live. My only issue with the new unit is that it doesn't have a dedicated tuner button. I'm hoping the tuner is still easy to access.
Well I fell for you if you just bought the XL+. But you still have a great unit. Do you really need the Axe Fx III. As my friend said. This is the first model of the Axe Fx III. What if it has got a lot of problems in the begging. You might be better of waiting for the Axe Fx III mark II. Then that unit will be even better. You can survive with the XL+. That is a great unit. It's just that everybody wants to get the Axe Fx III now. But if you lose a lot of money on your XL+ then why not use that and see what happens in the future. Strange that it dosen't have a tuner button...
Psyckadeli TV It's not a matter of needing it as much as it has the two improvements I, and obviously many others, communicated that FA needed to make. The XL+ had me requesting that someone manufacture an Axe Edit hard interface with knobs for the preamps and effects units (faster than the mouse!). The III has the proper hard interface on the front.
Well I'm not sure. I only have the Axe Fx II Mark II so there are a few models up to the AF3. I didn't really like that you need to get a new pedalboard. I just bought the MFC-101 mark III and I still haven't sold the Rocktron All Access that I had before and I have two All Access boards at the moment. I'm not sure if it is going to be that much of a differens with the AF3. Sure it's great that it's so power full. I do max out my AF II from time to time. So maybe the XL+ would be nice to get. I would love to get the XL+ and then have the AF II mark II as a backup. But if they gave me an AF III I would be open to that ;-) What about you are you getting the AF3. Do you own any AF II?
Now the only thing missing is perfect is the power amplifier, in this aspect the kemper is still in the front, the 3u could fit a power amplifier like kemper !! What do you think about this Leon?

If Fractal wanted to really make a statement they should have added a built in power amp to the unit plus come out with their own combo with power amp and speakers optimized for their unit! That would be worth the additional cash, I don't hear enough difference between the Axe 2 and Axe 3 to fork over more doe !!!
I don't think there is any point in including a poweramp inside the Axe Fx. You have the matrix poweramp that works great together with the Axe Fx and the option not to use a poweramp at all. I don't see any point of the Axe Fx being anything more than it is today. But I agree with you that it's a big money gap to be filled if you already have an Axe Fx II. I haven't bought the Axe Fx III. I bought the AX8 instead. I still have the Axe Fx II XL at home but the AX8 is great for rehearsal...
@Psyckadeli - The rationale is the Kemper Profiling amp is your chief competition, one of the reasons the Kemper(with the power amp built in) is the better option is convenience... the fewer components I have to drag the better .The Axe 3 is huge and might as well have a class "D" amp built in... Today we have micro tube technology so developing a light weight killer guitar combo amp is possible and would be a very attractive option for gigging musicians who don't have roadies.. it's already happened for bass players
Well I owned a Kemper with the poweramp in it but I didn't like it. The Kemper wasn't my cup of tea. The options in the Axe Fx is so much better. So many more effects...
I own them Both- they both have their pluses and minuses ! as far as straight guitar tones I thing the Kemper is better- sounds more natural and organic... The Axe Fx has better effects and the axe edit software is fantastic.. if the kemper had software equivalent to Axe edit and fractal bot that would give the Kemper a sleight edge...but for me it's all about convienince and light weight without sacrificing tone otherwise I can drag my pre-CBS fender twin with stomp boxes to gigs but that puppy weighs over 100lbs pounds and these days don't wanna do that..lol but that puppy sounds incredible !
Yes they will work as midi controllers but I bought my MFC-101 mark III not long ago and now that would be equal to my Rocktron All Access that I haven't even sold yet. So it's a bit of a bummer to just use the MFC101 as just an midi pedal...
It would surprise me a lot if you can't just send over your patches to the Axe Fx III. But if it's a whole new machine then you never know. But I will guess that they have figured it out some how...
TexasGuitarist so far I really like it. I bought it because I got a really good price on it. I haven`t used it that much so far. I`m going to use it on some future recordings. But it`s looking good...
Is this going to be made overseas??? The previous AXE models were all made in USA. The MFC's are made overseas. I don't see too many reasons to dump an XL+ to get the 3 just yet, especially with having to buy a new pedalboard. My adivce, go get yourself an XL+ direct from Fractal for $1799 and a used MFC and you'll be in tonal heaven for way less than the cost of the new AXEIII and a new MFC! My 2 cents!
I heard the the Axe III will not be made overseas. Yes the XL+ is still a great unit. It dosen't get worthless just because there is a new Axe III. My biggest concern with the Axe III is that you can only use the MFC101 as any maidi board. That surprise me that they haven't made the Axe III so that you could use that MFC101 as you use it with the Axe II but if you would like to get more out of the Axe III then you can buy the new pedal boards. But you never know what happens in the future. No one seems to know how much the new pedalboards is going to cost yet...
From what I read on FAS forums, MFC-101 will work as a generic midi controller, no Axe-Fx Mode. FasLink II is totally different from the first one. So to have full possibilities, you have to get the new controller.
Well that sucks. Then I have put a lot of money on a pedalboard that can do the same thing that the Rocktron All Access can do and I have two All Access already. So I could had just stayed with them instead of buying the MFC-101. I really like the MFC-101. I was a bit sceptical at first. So I didn't buy it for a long time. But when I bought it I really saw that there where some good use for it. But you never know maybe the urge will get to big for getting the AF3...
Yeah, given the fact that MFC-101 is a great controller and I'm 100% happy with it, having to buy the new one sucks a bit. I'm still saving for the Axe-Fx III though. Hope that my Mark II will still be of some value by the time I have enough dough saved!
Well there seams to be a lot of people wanting to sell the Axe Fx II to get he new one. I think that the change would be too big in money for me. I would be better off getting another Axe Fx II so I can have a backup instead. Because I have the Axe Fx II mark II then I can still get a XL+ and get a more power full unit. But I will see what comes up...
I'm not really sure if there will be so many mark II or an XL with the Axe Fx III. Look at what they changed with the Axe Fx mark II and the XL and XL plus. All these things is on the new Axe Fx III. So I don't think there is going to be a lot of upgrades to the Axe Fx III...
That's to bad if you like the older MFC-101 boards. I just bought the MFC-101 and I still haven't sold the Rocktron All Access board that I had before. I don't need anymore midi pedal boards. I have enough for a whole band ;-)
Psyckadeli TV With all the i/o and claiming it can be the center of your studio, the thing has to have selectable sample rates. Hell.. some Apollo soundcards have on-board SRC. With Burr Brown converter jargon being thrown about and how pristine this thing is, one should be able to throw their soundcard away and use this. That's where the value would really come in.

I like my axefxii, but since I got a Kemper, I barely use the axe FX unless it's for the 2290, some other weird effect, or as a soundcard... so I'm considering ditching it for an Apollo or a cheaper soundcard and perhaps a couple 500 series pre's. If Fractal can make this "the center of your production studio" or whatever the actual quote was, I might get the III. For that to happen, it has to (at least) have selectable sample rates. This is one if the main things people were moaning in about the II. I mean come on... even line 6 lets you do it. This "be happy it works at all" is a totally lame excuse. I remember I being some people's response when AxeEdit didn't work forever and we were forced to become Apple 2c-like LCD screen Ninjas. Hell.. with all the power, why not make the III a mic preamp emulator too? Then you could do all but drums or an orchestra though it.
Iain Graham thanks for your honest answer. I totally agree with you. It`s crazy that this video has so many views. I would have been more happy if people would have watched my other Axe Fx Tips and tricks videos. I hope you like them instead...
I hope you enjoy the other videos and let's be honest this video can't be "The most boring pointless thing I ever watched" I have watched a lot of videos on youtube that was way more boring and pointless than this video ;-)
