Welcome to Axe Fx tips and tricks. In this episode I’m going to show you how you can make some really fast editing with your Axe Fx.
Hi I’m Max Haze from the band Psyckadeli. Today I’m going to go thru how you can speed up your editing in the Axe Fx. I am going to show you some editing tips in the Axe edit that can help you a lot to make a patch or scenes much faster. You might think that because I make these videos I use all the effects, amps and cabs simulations but you would be surprised how little I change from preset to preset. Even if you have the possibility to change everything you might just get stuck in finding the perfect sound. So I would say that less is more if you get to play or record with your preset as fast as possible.
My first tip would be to make a master preset for your sound. If you have a favourite signal path then you can save that to the last preset slot by going back on your pedal board and save it there. This will make it much faster when you want to make a new patch and then copy the master preset and use the parts that you like and then just change the parts that you want to change for the new preset. You can off course just copy one of your other presets for this as well.
There is a very handy feature in the Axe edit that I use a lot. If you right click over any block in your single chain then you get the edit feature in the top of the menu. Here you can copy the block that you just sellected. Then you can paste a new block into the signal chain and this block will have the same setting like the one that you just copied. As you can see here I copied the drive one and the new one is going to be the Drive two. So you need a free block of what ever you choose to paste into the signal chain. You can use this feature to copy blocks from other presets to a new preset as well.
So you can use the copy function for a lot of things. “You mean like this. Hi I’m Max Haze from the band psyckadeli in this episode” NO. one of us is just enough.
If you are using scenens or working with X Y settings you can also use the possibility to copy a setting. As you can see next to the X Y button there is an arrow. If you push that arrow you will get some options to copy the X Y settings. So you just need to choose the one that will work for you in this list.
If we go over to the scene selections we can see that there is an arrow above the scene buttons. Here we can copy the current scene and then choose another scenen and then copy the first scene layout into that scene. This makes it really easy and you don’t have to turn on or off all the settings that come on when that scene hasn’t been edited before. Here is also a handy feature so that you can swap places with the scenens if you want to move a scene to different scene number.
There is also a possibility to save your favourite amps and effect settings by using the global blocks. This will work like you have one amp for all you patches. So if you choose an amp block that you have saved as a global block then all the scenes that uses that global block will be effected when you change the amp settings and save it. So this can be handy if you always use the same favourite amp on all your preset. You have a couple of global blocks so you can have more than one favourite amp. But beware of one thing. When you change something and you save it this will affect all your presets with this global block. So to avoid the surprise when you go to the next setting you can load the global blocks without linking it or unlink it before you start tweaking the setting for your preset.
You will now have to find what method that works best for you. I have had a lot of help with these options and I hope you will find something that will work for you in the future. I hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks video and please help me make these videos by subscribing to this channel to support more weekly Axe Fx tips and tricks videos in the future. I would really appreciate if you help me out by liking and sharing this video on the internet. Because as you know sharing is caring. And as always folks use it for good not for evil.
