📆 Preordered on July 1st, 2022, and almost given up on, the Ayn Loki Zero has surprised me by showing up, and it's time to see if it was worth the wait. This portable gaming machine aims to give you a gaming experience similar to the Steam Deck, although with somewhat modest hardware specs.

I am a chinese and really hope the Loki zero could be known to more friends all over the world, honestly the loki zero came out too late and in fact even in china, not too many people plan to buy it, but Loki zero is really a great handset especially when you are a big fan of 2000s/2010s 3A games, for now the Ayn just released Odin 2 which with a snapdragon 8 gen 2 cpu, and most of us are waiting for this cool gadget.

I agree in some extend. Last year it would been a great device. Lately the market of handheld gaming pcs got pretty crowded. And Ayn seems to be getting a little bogged down, too. They have quite much variants on theyr website to choose from or announced. I do like the Loki Zero. As you said, for older titels it is perfect. And for the preorder price of 199 USD that I paid i still think it is a steal. But for the 275 USD + Shipping and + Taxes (at least here in Europe) it does cost now on theyr website, you getting very close to the price of the 64 GB Steam Deck model. And the Steam Deck is definetly the more powerfull hardware worth the couple of bucks more.

Is this device capable of running game like castlevania lord of shadow ? It is a 2010 game i think and im not sure is a AAA game.

Love ur accent bud lol I have a steamdeck already but this still looks great to play emulators and games on the epic game store! These windows portables r so handy ! Be safe.

Thank you for your nice comment. At the moment I'm playing a few games (video coming soon) and I have to say, it performs surprisingly well despite the not so fresh AMD Athlon Silver 3050e. I also have a steam deck. A first batch 512Gig model. Still in the original shipping box - I have never opened it. The Steam deck is my retirement plan. In 15 or 20 years I will sell it for a small fortune🤑😁

I assume you are German too, was the import process easy? Did you have to pay a lot of tax? I only ever imported small cheap things so im a little worried about cost. What has your experience been with that?

DHL Express has carried out customs clearance on its own. So I had nothing to do with the customs clearance. In total - so 19% VAT + DHL Express Service fee - I paid 48,57 Euro extra to customs/DHL Express.

@@TheLiquidlane You're welcome. As I wrote in another comment, my cost is based on the pre-order price of 199 USD. In the same configuration as my device (8GB Ram + 128 GB storage), the device costs 275 Euros on Ayn's website. And you still don't get the carrying case (12 USD), charger (12 USD) or a screen protector (6 USD). That costs all extra if you look at the ayn website today. With shipping and import tax, you're pretty close to the Steam Deck price. The Steam Deck may be bigger and a bit heavier (675g), but it's a lot more powerful.

I can understand your. Sometimes it is a bit fiddly to operate. But overall and I am not a Windows 11 fanboy, I do like it because it widens the game choice. You are not locked in to steam or have to deal with wine. Just download and install the games from gog.com or install the epic gamestore. Works out of the box. It's handy.

Is it because the onscreen keyboard not shows up? If you keep the button on the up right beside the screen pushed for a longer time the keyboard will appear.

baisicly hold the options button (like ps4 mapping) and a keyborad will show up

I did a quick test, 30 minutes of Hellblade with turned off Bluetooth and WiFi at 83% screen brightness drains the battery from 100% down to 74%

I pre-ordered the Ayn Loki Zero as soon as ETA Prime introduced it. I didn't follow up on it because it was originally supposed to ship once in late 2022 and I was worried, since I wasn't home over Christmas/New Year, that there would be problems with delivery. But fortunately or unfortunately Ayn had postponed the delivery to I think it was the 2nd quarter of 2023. And by then I was already worried that the pre-order was a mistake and the money was lost. In 2023 I honestly hadn't thought about my order of the Loki Zero until Ayn sent me the email that it had shipped and just two days later it was there. I never expected it. And it's surprisingly good. I downloaded a few games from gog.com (e.g. Doom 64, Shantae and the Pirates Curse, Hellblade and others) and so far they all ran smoothly. Only Earthworm Jim wouldn't start. I got a blue screen. But more about the game performance in the next video.

I tried the GOTY version from GOG. The ingame benchmark run in fullscreen at 720p, medium detail and rest turned off - at minimum 25fps, max 58fps and average 49fps. If you lower the resolution you can achieve a min fps of 30 and average 55 fps

I got mine today,,,that pice of paper in the case is only given to those who pre ordered and funded the kick starter funds to create the this console,,,only 200 people got the thank you note...be well .

These ones are different than what the production run aya Loki zero,will not have same chip sets these one do to make more affordable to the general,,these particular handhelds are maxed out on everything ,and this little machine does it all,and then some..be well.

@@DavidSmith-vc5rn This is a stroke of luck for me, but others who watch the video or other reviews will get the wrong impression of the device. Especially if they decided to buy this handheld computer based on the video, they will not get the same device. How do you know that?
