The Source is the ninth studio album from Ayreon, a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen, released on 28 April 2017.

It's funny to hear Floor as being "from Nightwish". Arjen's been working with her (and her sister Irene) since Floor was 19. She's a core member of one of his other projects, 'Star One' (sci-fi prog metal). You noted Mike Mills in particular, and it is definitely worth checking out his own project 'Toehider'. Suggestions for that might be 'How Much For That Dragon's Tooth?', 'How Do Ghosts Work?', or 'Concerning Lix & Fairs'. His style can vary quite significantly, and his range is incredible.

Now you need to go Ayreon Live - 'Ayreon Universe Live' is a great entry into the whole Ayreon Universe as it is like a best of. Everybody dies from 'Ayreon Universe', follows on from this song and the live version is amazing and so much fun.

This is a true Masterpiece! Excellent casting of singers, and then there's Floor (❤👸). I really envy SIR Russell Allen's raspy voice. The genius behind all this is (The Tall Hippie Dude), Arjen Anthony Lycassen, the tallest known rock musician (203 cm). Greetings from Finland! ⛄👍

It occurred to me after seeing John de Lancie playing the part of the being dragging characters from Earth's history and testing them that Arjen Anthony Lucassen may have been thinking of Q from Star Trek Next Generation. Any thoughts?

This is what Arjen said: Arjen: "When I was thinking about the narrator of Electric Castle, who is an omnipotent being toying with mankind... that's Q, totally, and I started to wonder if I had based that character on Q when I made the album (laughs). I approached John de Lancie through an old email address, and I got an answer from him saying he would run it by his manager, who said no, they weren't going to do some hard rock / metal opera. But, John's wife - who was on Star Trek as well - is a musician, so they checked Ayreon out together on RU-vid and they loved it. John said to his manager, 'Hey, this is my rock opera. I'm 70. How many more chances will I have to do this?'" "The next thing was Skyping with John, and that was scary. I grew up on The Next Generation; every week I was waiting for it and Q was my hero. And there I was Skyping with one of my idols. It was very scary, but he's such a nice guy that after a few minutes I was okay. He was so interested and wanted to know everything, and he wanted to write all his own narration for the show. And he did. He worked on it for half a year and it was just incredible. It was a very emotional thing for me to meet John and to work with him."

I first want to thank you for not talking through the song. Lucassen has really good transitions from one part to another. They deserve being listened to, and not talked over. You were good on that. In '71 I got into Zappa, Tull, Gentle Giant. Why did it take me another 50 years to find Lucassen? Add Neal Morse and I have my favorite 5 groups.

It was funny that when you mention Mike, the Mike with many faces, you said "on a on" (I don't know Why), but it was funny for me because that Mike (Mike Mills) has a song named "On and on". Yeah! This is an amazing collaboration. Arjen Lucassen has the magic of gathering such an increíble amount of talented people in his projects that we only have to Thank to the universe for having gaiven us the oportunity of finding him and them. Check live versions that are amazing too and look for the projects of his collaborators: Toehider, Blind Guardian, Avastasia, Epica, Kamelot, etc.

this was released in 2017. so recorded some time in 2016, when Floor was On Tour with NW, recently Married to Hannes from Sabaton, and probably a few months pregnant with their daughter Freya. Ms Thing is the living embodiment of "Ride it till the wheels Fall Off".

Ayreon Live, Everybody Dies, Intergalactic Space Crusaders but anything Arjen Lucassan does is on another level. Great job, I am a old Metal/rock head and your story on getting the Encyclopedia Brittanica . My mom shopped at the A&P, she got the entire collection of encyclopedias each book starting with A and finishing of course Z including the dictionary and wooden bookshelf. It was a special A & P ran, each week they offered each volume for $1.99. We were also poor but she never missed a week she got the complete collection plus the wooden bookshelf to hold all the books. It was 2 shelves wooden, stained in maple or mahogany. again for $1.99. My mom and my best friend mom were the only ones that I know that went and got the entire collection over 26 weeks. My brother and I used them all the way thru college. Still have them but even though they are outdated and worn the memories of my mom collected them is priceless. Stay Safe Rock On!🙏🤘🤘🤘

Floor and Simone are very close friends and they both lead a band that's Symphonic Metal Floor Nightwish and Simone Epica the only big difference is Epica is a bit harder because of their growler Mark singing style with Simone's angelic tone and also they perform a lot of times with full Orchestras and choirs unlike Nightwish who uses the tracks

This Ayreon (Arjen Lucassen) is a genius at making stories. I definitely feel the resemblance to Freddy Mercury & Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". But I would suggest you to watch Ayreon Live and especially from "The Electric Castle" Live In Tilburg 2019 concert. Arjen made a comment about Joost being a "lul" (sounds like 'lull' in lullaby and means 'dick'). That's because Arjen is a very shy guy and Joost kept pushing Arjen to appear in the live concerts. Which he eventually did. If you watch 'The Eye of Ra', you'll see Arjen speed off stage as soon as the song is finished. He's moving so fast, that Floor is barely able to point the attention af the audience at him before he vanishes backstage. Why do such a lot of artists have stage fright?

this is NOT a collaboration. Ayreon has already a lot of albums. Everything revolves around Arjen (the "tall hippie dude") that is the compositor/producer and "the mastermind". Many artists/singers come and go throughout the years. Also: each album is a story and all the albums are connected in some way.
