I loved this video. His technical presentation was spot on and his since of humor is heart warming. I’ve watched this video amongst others prior to deciding on the P6. I went with an Ania MC which means I added a Rega MC stage amp as well. I initially put the power supply and stage amp on the shelf below the tt. As all the videos suggest, this is not advisable as a hum noise may be noticed. I moved the power supply and the stage amp to the opposite side of the self and the hum noise was extinguished. Although I cannot compare between other setups/equipment, I feel I have an ear for quality. I am absolutely blown away and continue to be pleased with my equipment selections. I have upgraded from a 1987ish system. The new technology is astonishing. Rotel RC 1590 and RB 1590. Sill pushing my Klipsch II signature Edition and Sansui SPZ9 speakers. And with that, I’m off to the man cave and musical bliss. Peace.

The problem with the plinth is not a joke. The plinth of my P6 was also bent. I've sent it back. Now I'm waiting for a new one. No go for this price, Rega. Shame on you!

Great review! I agree as former P6 Exact owner - very well described. I was able to achieve more micro-details and extension by moving to the apheta 3 cartridge from the Exact on my P6. My phono stage is a Bob's devices SUT going into a CJ PV12 phono stage only, then on to an LTA MZ3 pre. (Not impressed with the rega fono mc.) PS - lots of attention to isolation, on a shelf around the corner from my listening area. You are one of the most authentic and honest reviewers I have listened to.

Great video 👍 Hum, motor noise, uneven plinth - shouldn’t even be relevant to discuss at this price point. I own a 2016 Planar 3 and have made an additional ground wire to reduce hum and bought a new metal motor thrust bearing to quiet down the motor. Now it is finally quiet 🤫 I am satisfied with the sound, but these quality issues are not okay. Really agree on the importance of the phono stage. I spent more on that than the cartridge.

Rega had reinvented the wheel which others like Linn and Thorens Pioneer and Technics already invented. Rega is selling you this new wheel in small portions and increments. The law of diminishing returns apply. But packaging and hype is great.

I own my P6 less than a week. After listened to your comment about anti-sketch inaccuracy, I adjusted mine from 2.75g to "a hair less than 1g". I can hear more image balance between left and right channels. I have no test record just listening to a regular one so I'm not so sure about it.

I have been waiting for you to come up with this video, ever since the first one with Rega P6 unboxing came out. Thanks for posting your honest comments on this turntable. I fully agree with your thoughts. For it’s price the P6 with Exact cartridge is just fabulous. The Exact is very well balanced from top to bottom and sounds very neutral and very smooth indeed. I love mine too. I also found out that using the P6 without the dust cover sounds more open and cleaner. It is something you can try for yourself. For now, I just use a chopping board as a base for the P6 and it works well.

The cantilever of your cartridge seems to sink quite a lot when it hits the record, maybe a check of the tracking force would be advisable.

If you don't want to hear motor noise don't put your ear down there. If you want to hear no surface noise motor noise, just perfect silence in the background, do what I did 40 years ago, buy a CD player. I have a vintage Toshiba SR 370 direct drive with a SME 3009 arm Shure V15III cartdridge, and a Rega P6 with the Ania MC and a Musical Fidelity X-Ray CD player. I love them all, but stop listening to faults, TURN IT UP and rock out to the sound.

Lucky one your p6 has no sagging issue. Got mine 2month ago and it sagged clearly visible 1mm already. Also the back footprint has been somehow decrease size so I needed to put a coin underneath to get equalibrium of the platter. If things get worse I will return the unit and get a replacement. Hopefully this is possible as Rega seems to file this under tolerance. Also Azimuth is minimally wrong not giving sound issue but I expected more quality for the price

You can use an anti skate disc (basically disc with no grooves) and find the right force so that the arm does not move in or out. Maybe an isoacoustic board?

I think today the top match in hi-fi for all is between the Rega P6 vs Technics SL-1200GR. I chose the GR, and i am so happy with my decision :) I'm in love with my 1210GR. i had rega before and i loved them so much, but i wanted to upgrade and searched for a turntable that will be the one that have it all. No machine upgrades - just good cartridge and good to go! With the rega it's was just too much for me: belt upgrades, spacers, oil, the cover not closed with spacers... With the technics GR - a tank for lifetime. Very informative video thank you :)

Though you give the Rega a good review, your comparison with the two hi-end systems is really not fair. A fairer comparison would have been to listen to the Rega in THOSE systems and compare it with the more expensive turntable. I’ll bet you would have been almost as impressed as you were with the expensive table.

Thanks for your very insightful video. I have a Dual CS 5000 turntable with a MM Grado cartridge and have been thinking about getting the P6 with the MC cartridge. Not sure how much better or different it will be compared to what I already have. I have a NAC 58 preamp and the record player sounded decent. But once I moved up to a Parasound XRM phono preamp the sound was bigger and fuller. I am much happier with the sound I am getting that I am almost reluctant to move up to the P6...almost. Time will tell

So, what’s not to like? I’ll tell you. This TT’s tonearm does not accommodate cartridge swapping; thus, it’s not for those who enjoy cart experimentation.
@peterstudley1804
@peterstudley1804 10 месяцев назад
I agree , you can't swap out carts very quick or easy , rega's are just to fussy belt driven , all to much hassle when all you want to do is play an LP without a ceremony of wondering if the deck is running perfect every time, and a sl 1200gr /gr2 /G just works perfectly time after time ,year in year out , I upgraded to the sl 1200g after 30 years constantly nursing a JA Michell focus one , I wouldn't wish all that time fettling on a belt drive etc on my worst enemy.

When you set the side bios to 0 there is still pull from the internal wiring. this will try to pull the arm back to its resting place.

@@bitofthisanddad Side bios is a compromise on any arm and should really always done by ear. You are eight Rega do use magnet and its not possible to get true 0 pull. All I was saying is the internal wiring of any arm when its moved across the record will twist and create a pull. Clear audio even use this as a way of adjusting side bios.

Buying second hand turntable is easier said than done when considering all the adjustments and alignments needed for proper music reproduction,. Not mentioning the need to check the condition / operation of the 2nd hand TT and if necessary or unfortunately the need to fix problem in 2nd hand gear. Not everyone knows how to do that. Manufacturer has been trying to design TT with simple setup and operation so that more people can get into the hobby, creating a bigger space and eco system.
