Brother, I'm a long-time audiophile too. I only have so much to spend and got this turntable with the Rega Ania moving coil cartridge in order to stay within the budget. My wife and I are pleased listening to the awesome music.

Imagine, your first Rega product, the RB 300 arm, was almost 30 years ago. Now you have a P6 with the new RB330 arm. Your journey in the audio world is so interesting! Looking forward to future videos on the P6.

Great video! Thanks - I originally bought a P3 as I didn't want to spend more $$ on a P6 at the time.. since then I have upgraded over 18 months with GrooveRider - sub-platter, counterweight, ball bearing, platter and also added Ortofon Quintet Black cartridge.. the only difference now is the plinth and the Neo PSU which is compatable with RP3 according to Rega.. Had a real problem with hum from the start, so much I didn't want to use it! Solved that problem (mostly) by repositioning the phono stage (Chord Huei).. .trial & error but has made an amazing difference.. just run out of space to move as far away from the TT as I would like!

Thank you for posting. I recently acquired a P6 with the Ania MC cartridge and my wife and I are quite pleased regarding the music extracted from the albums in our collection. Nice video.

I am glad you are enjoying it. You are braver than me; I wouldn't dare measuring the shaft's diameter because I'm too afraid of scratching it... Then again, I am clumsy... and a bit OCD about turntables. OK, I am very OCD when it comes to turntables! We'd get alone!

I have a P3 with Neo PSU upgrade and it didn’t need ‘tuning’ in to my P3, but the sound quality improved a fair bit. The sound is more clearer and smoother than before and speed stability is definitely better. One doesn’t realise the improvements until you buy a dedicated PSU. Of course there’s no need to change the drive belt on the sub platter. I’m getting an Exact cartridge soon and I reckon it’ll be fairly close to the P6. Good Video 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Exact is a very good MM cartridge. Tunning/matching of the Neo to the motor of individual P6 is actually a feature in the rega P6 website...... CUSTOM MATCHED NEO TTPSU AND 24 V MOTOR New high spec Rega 24 V low noise synchronous motor - each motor matched by hand to its own Neo PSU ensuring optimum anti-vibration control

I appreciate your info, good job. My RP6 always sounded real good with the Ortofon 2M Black. But I added all the GrooveTracer mods, the most important of which was the delrin platter. It gave me more quiet and a solidity that you didn't know you were missing until you heard it.

Best unpacking and setup video of the P6 I’ve seen. Since you bought it with the cartridge there was no need to fuss with alignment and spacers for VTA. Didn’t hear anything about controlling the speed, but maybe that’s for later on?

Opening a brand new product to see what's inside or underneath? Tapping the platter, feeling the smoothness of the bearing assembly, screwing off the hood? Are you joking? I am sure many people are wondering why on earth you would do that ☺️. So thank you very much for doing so and for this video 😉. I was wondering if there is a nut at the bottom of the bearing sleeve. At least the Planar 2 and 3 have a self locking bearing sleeve that screws into the plinth, so without a nut. Since the Planar 6 is made from a different material, without much material to hold onto, so I curious how this is done. For the same reason the mounting screws of the tonearm go all the way through the plinth and are secured under the bottom brace. Thanks again for this great video 👍

Looks very good, i use a rega planar 2 with audio techica AT95. Im going to put an Audio technica moving coil on the deck as they are only £210 in the Uk. You have the newly updated plinth and a speed switching power supply. The Rega respond well to tweaking, i had my tonearm rewired. Look forward to this, once set up it will sound amazing.

Way to go. I was a mechanical engineer who worked in the manufacturing of audio gear for a short period of my life. Watching the model the I have been work on, CAD drawings to parts moulding and testing. Then finally after 9 months, the model is fully manufactured. It hard work but wonderful experience like my own baby borned. Thus even more appreciate some of these great engineers making wonderful babies like the P6. Must keep the box and packaging. Since you also have a set, would you like to share your experience on it?

Since I’m a musician and not a mechanical engineer, I didn’t have the tools like you have to measure and weight the different parts of the turntable. I just followed the instructions on how to set it up. All I can say is I love my P6. And I love the Exact cartridge, the frequency range is so balanced that nothing sticks out to call your attention. The clarity of the P6 / Exact is fantastic. Now that I know a mechanical engineer like you appreciates the build quality of the P6, I love it even more. If you have an email address I can share much more that I’ve experienced with this turntable and cartridge.

Hello again, I just bough and setup the P6. But I jump straight to the Ania MC ! And I also back here to check your belt, as I always thought it should be White one, apparently Rega stated that since March 2021 P1 2 3 6 would come with the black, standard one and only another 'reference' grade to upgrade to. I have not listen to it yet. I fear the worst, what if it is not 'blow my mind away' as people told ? lol. Ok, I would figure out that soon.

Put the belt in a jug of water put it in the microwave for 15 minutes it will reform it, ideally then put it in a bag of talcum powder, I've heard this can be problematic in humid areas but it won't do it any harm. Upgrade the belt to a double belt ideally. No shouldn't be play with the platter there should be a silicone Gromit on the spindle to take up the play. You could use a piece of blu tack in the middle and rest the platter on the inner platter a small ring of blu tack. try oiling the motor at the top of the spindle and ideally on the bottom with 75/90 gearbox oil just one drop on each don't get it on the pull it or belt. Use the oil to oil the main bearing spindle smearing the sides but at the bottom silicon carbon grease just a little knob

I been want it this TT for a while. but my my Thecnics sl 1700 mk2 is making me hesite to get it. There are so many good things with my technics, first at all is really quiet I made the test where you turn off the turntable put the middle on a record and I hit the plinth and no feed back on the speakers i think this is because this TT has a suspension, also I like the auto return, one other thing that I has is that when you play a record it has a some sort of delay on the sound when the stylus touches the record so you don’t have a loud pop. But man I been want it the rega so bad I just don’t want to deal with a hum.
@bitofthisanddad
@bitofthisanddad 3 года назад
At listening level, I cannot hear a hum. If I turn the volume way up, without playing a record, yes there is a bit. This doesn't really bother me. Rega has a total different phylosothy in TT design and if I put my ear on the plinth , I can hear the motor noise as well as the music from playing the record. P6 may not be as "quiet" as the Technics but it certainly give a very good musical sense. And that is what it is all about.
@theredon2
@theredon2 3 года назад
@@bitofthisanddad I’ll May get the technics 1210 gr or the 2x of project if I get another table. I like to have the option of adjusting the VTA on the fly. that’s the other thing of the p6 is missing that I want.

@bitofthisanddad 3 года назад
@@theredon2 you mean project X2? I like the look of that TT a lot. And yes VTA is adjustable is a plus. 1210GR is also in my mind too. @@bitofthisanddad I finally bought the x2 (Which is look great) and I don’t know if I got a faulty one but my technics I way quieter. The x2 for some reason produce a high clicks no the noticeable when music is playing but when I there is no music is really loud. When I play the same record on the technics I don’t have that click sound. Most of a records are great records most mofi, analog production. Speaker comer etc. So the record is not the issue. I’m thinking is something like ground issue. At least I have 30 days to return it. So now I want to get this p6. So far have you find anything wrong with this TT beside the hum? Thanks!

wear gloves when handling the parts, your fingerprints leave oils on finish. PS you just voided your warranty by opening up to measure the parts.. Way too OCD BTW You would need too isolate the cap from the circuit to get the true measurement. in a circuit unless it is written on it. What you measure with the multimeter probes will be the total capacitance at that point in the circuit (then make a rough guess to nearby standard cap value but this depends on your circuit)
@bitofthisanddad

I think I was measuring the voltage . Not the capacitance? Of course I am OCD. And this hobby is giving me a lot of fun. I think I have mentioned about warranty voided in the video.
