But I think most lists rank Tom Hanks as the top box office star of the 90s due to A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Toy Story 1&2, Saving Private Ryan, You've Got Mail, The Green Mile, etc...

Originally they had Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey in mind to play Mike and Marcus. They pitched the movie to Disney and it was shot down.. They spiced up the script a little and pitched it to Columbia, but this time with Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes. Columbia loved the idea, but Eddie and Wesley wasn't available. Eddie suggested Martin Lawrence and Martin brought in Will and the rest is history. While doing promos for Bad Boys 4 Life Will and Martin brought this up and that it's often brought up when they're all together.

Smith wasn't really known that well at the time except for Fresh Prince, and even then, he was only really famous in America. People always remember this as a Will Smith movie... but it was made as a vehicle for Martin Lawrence. It basically made Smith's career because he outshone Lawrence whenever they were on screen together.

Similar films to this trilogy are the Men in Black trilogy, the Rush Hour trilogy, the Lethal Weapon franchise, Red Heat and Tango and Cash. Both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence starred in equally successful TV shows before this movie. Director Michael Bay followed this up with the action thriller The Rock. The actor playing JoJo, Michael Imperioli, went on to have a starring role in the HBO crime drama The Sopranos

The reason Marcus talked Mike down, is that if he'd shot him at the end while he was seemingly unarmed, he would have been in the wrong. So once dude pulled his piece it was self defense so Mike took advantage and lit his ass up. 😂

nah, it's a programming thing - we get always the same script, they show us you can fight, hurt and more all the goons, lowlifes, petty criminals and sometime even innocent security guards/bodyguards... ..but when you get to the final boss/the most evil of them all - stop! he is important, "it's not worth it", double check if you follow every procedure, don't hurt, tame your anger - because in other words he is better than you, me, anybody someone see enough movies like that growing up and it can get to his/her subconscious, mind programming

Remember they actually followed up on this in the sequel by having Mike go to therapy for the airport thing. 😂 If he'd shot to kill after yelling "Freeze" while dude was fleeing he'd have lost his badge. If he'd shot him close range through the eye, he'd have lost his badge and been charged with 1st degree.

Another more modern (less action, more comedy) "buddy cop" (even though they aren't cops, instead PIs) movie I think you would enjoy is The Nice Guys - its on Netflix currently. Its directed by the same guy who wrote the lethal weapon movie.

Bad Boys is a classic. I’ve watched it many times. Bad Boys II is good also. I ❤️ Will Smith in Independence Day & Enemy of the State. Martin L. is good in Blue Streak (cop comedy) & National Security. Don’t know if you’ve seen Die Hard (Bruce Willis), but it’s definitely worth the watch!

Ahhh the first bad boys film where Martin was the bigger talent and Will was just getting his feet off the ground. This is '95 so Will would have 1 more season of fresh prince before they wrap it up in '96 if im not mistaken.
