The clear is one of the most fundamental shots in badminton. Being able to execute this shot well will open up the court and make your attacking downward shots much more effective. If you are just starting out with badminton then make this shot one of the first ones that you learn.

This for the video! This is one of the more useful ones compared to the other videos on overhead clear. This shot is still the weakest part of my game...

how about turning the lights on so the shuttle is visible?

Hi, thanks for the great video! I think i can improve my technique a lot, but i've got one question. Do u need to put your non-racked arm as high, as u did here, cause sometimes you'd see pro players using their arm to aim for the shuttle and just putting up their non-racked arm till their shoulder ?
@elizabethcann3294
@elizabethcann3294 3 года назад
Hi, it doesn't necessarily have to be as high as that as techniques do vary in style, although as a general suggestion I say to point to the shuttle in the air

Hi, at the moment of impact is the racquet's shaft 90 degrees to the ground or is it tilted a little towards your head? Let's say if you want to hit straight forward. I would illustrate it like this: I or \? When you look at the player directly behind. Thank you btw, a very good video.
@EssentialBadminton
@EssentialBadminton 4 года назад
Balta Russow Hi, the racket is tilted slightly so that you have a combination of sending the shuttle upwards and forwards. A common mistake I see is when the general clear is too flat and this occurs when the racket is not tilted at all on impact of the shuttle
@boliussa
@boliussa 3 года назад
@@EssentialBadminton Thanks. What about the other tilt? So, on contact, should the racket shaft be tilted towards the body, or away from the body, or not tilted at all? So if you imagine there's tilting like a person bowing, so the racket should be a bit tilted forward on impact to get the steepness. But there's also the tilting like a hand does when waving Like how somebody waves a flag where the stick goes left and right. tilting one way and the other. How should that tilt be on contact?
@EssentialBadminton
@EssentialBadminton 3 года назад
@@boliussa It shouldn't be tilted sideways if you are aiming straight as this would direct the shuttle to one side or the other. If you want to hit cross then the hand and forearm would rotate (similar motion as though you were showing your opponent the back of your hand and then the palm of your hand only not as exaggerated as that) rather than the wrist/hand going from left to right like when waving. Does that make sense?

Nice video, how long does it take for beginner to learn clear - from one end of court to another end of court? Because I have been training for almost 2 years and still my clears are not going to the very end of court:(

maryblack811 Hi Mary that will depend firstly on whether you have the correct technique and secondly how frequently you are practicing. Make sure you have the correct technique and then increase the speed of your racket swing. Perhaps try to video your technique as often we are doing something different to what we think we are doing

It really depends on your build/strength/technique. From my understanding, not all people can baseline clear easily. Some like myself can do so due to my technique combined with my build. I am 175cm and 91 kilograms or 200+ pounds. Armchair exercises certainly help as well. Look up coach Paul Stewart Armchair Exercises on youtube since I found them incredibly useful in building ligament and muscular strength to produce said power. It works well with backhand clears too.
