Having a strong backside is crucial for balance and stability. Please join me for this 20 minute all standing workout that focuses on our glutes.
After a quick warm up I will take you through exercises that will strengthen your butt muscles and provide a balance challenge! Each exercise will be performed with a 60 second timer with 15 seconds between each movement where I will demonstrate the next exercise.
I'm using a fabric hip band to create more resistance. I love this band because it does not slip, bunch or move around on my legs. It's a great way to increase resistance and tone our lower half. You can also do all these moves without a band or with a traditional elastic loop band. Please have a chair nearby to aid in some of the exercises and to provide you with support when needed.
Strengthening your butt muscles is also really helpful in reducing or avoiding back pain. Our glutes are the largest muscle group in our body yet most of us just sit on them all day. What are you waiting for? Press play and let's do this!

I've looked at this routine a couple of times, but didn't follow through as I didn't have a band, Anyway, today I did it without a band. I really enjoyed it and think I got the benefit regardless. I'll order a band today for even greater benefits. My balance is improving with every workout you offer, that for me is huge as I want to protect my body for the future years. Thanks Lauren.

I found this exercise at the right time. After multiple trips to PT due to hip pain the PT test came back w weak glute. Love the booty band. Working on increasing my glutes Love your exercises

Great workout! And the Alta bands are a big improvement over rubber bands. Would like to see a floor workout specifically using the Alta band.

I am new to Yoga. Began chair Yoga to help minimize by balance issues, and work on getting in better shape being more inactive and gaining bad habits which led to overall loss of body health. Have been doing your yoga sessions daily, rotating pinpointing working on various parts of my body. I feel soooo much better, and plan on continuing with this routine. Appreciate another balance workout. My right side seems to be more unsteady then my left which I didn't realize until doing the balance routines. I'm glad I now have that awareness. The second to the last exercise had me sounding like rice crispy, snap crackle and pop.

This was so similar to my Barre class today ..1 hr class the band really makes a difference you feel it - also lots of squats…these classes do challenge me - makes me appreciate your classes but this video does challenge you as well ..when I decided to do Barre I thought yes look like a swan be precise and use lots of arm and feet positioning 😮 after a couple of months now at my gym barre we do a lot of variety in this class …having 2 qualified instructors on different days I notice the difference…as. I said it challenges you ..as always thankyou 🙏 June 14

Hi Lauren I enjoyed this balance workout. It was challenging at times. However, my dominant side seems to work best. Haven’t use the exercise bands in awhile. Glad to include them in the workout. I like your exercise band better because it stayed up and didn’t roll over like mine, but it still did the job. Lol 😂Thank you so much.

I put a ton of energy into trying to find something at home that would work as the band. 😉 Nothing quite worked. Will look into getting one. Enjoyed the workout. It seemed more challenging than the 10 minute one you had recently. I look forward to seeing improvements as I continue to add this one in. With MS, I spend a lot of time ensuring I don't fall. I'll take any further advantage I can get. Never thought before I found your channel that I would be able to do curtsy lunges with and without hand weights without holding on to something. The hip exercises really make a difference too. Thanks again ☺

You are most welcome Anna. It means so much to me to hear that my workouts are helping you! You're right, this workout is tough. Another idea for a makeshift band is to tie a pair of pantyhose or tights around your legs. Or even a sports bra. These items will provide just enough "give" to provide extra resistance. But if you think you will be doing this workout a lot then I would recommend getting the bands.

Got my bands. Used the light one. Enjoyed it 😊 I decided to try the band with the wall pilates since I modified the side leg lifts and clam shells. Ended up leaving it on.

Hi and thank you for good work! Couple of questions regarding the bands, I have couple of bands from pilates days, different weights light, medium and heavy, when using them are they supposed to be around the top of thighs or around near the knees? The band Im using is light weight (green) from pilates, used them mostly for claims both floor and standing. Noticed that when using the light and medium ones around the top of thighs, with some of the leg exercises they were too big and kept slipping down to knees, so I changed over to the light ones around the knees or maybe Im just little stronger than few years ago as I have been working on strengthening different areas of body! Do feel really good when trying new exercises using different muscle groups. Generally speaking I'm fairly active. Thanks again really enjoy all your workouts, I tried the kickboxing couple of times, NOW that really tested me - in a good way 😃!

Good for you for trying new things! Regarding your bands; because they are older, they may have lost some of their elasticity and that's why they may be slipping down. You can place your bands wherever they are comfortable on your thighs. Do not put them on or over your knees though, you don't want the pressure on the joint. In general, the higher up the band is on your legs, the easier it will be. The lower the band is the more difficult the moves will be. I hope that helps!

Hello, Lauren -I just completed this workout but cannot find my resistance bands, so I used a bathrobe belt. (Not too comfortable - no give.) I'm assuming that the belt you have linked (Alta) has give (?) I meant to tell you that you remind me of Nancy Kerrigan, whom I skated with many years ago. Thank you once again for a good workout. Yes, I am getting stronger! It feels odd -in a good way - to feel my body and strength again after 2 years of illness.🌻

You're very creative Violet! Yes, the Alta bands have give. they are stretchy, but not as much as a traditional latex rubber band. I love how they don't slip or bunch and they really activate the glutes! Thank you for the nice complement regarding Nancy, that's amazing you use to skate with her. You are at the least 3rd viewer that has told me that they ice skate!

I really love your videos. However, I've been told by my neurosurgeon to NEVER DO DEADLIFTS AGAIN. I herniated a disc at L1 - L2 doing deadlifts. Do you have another exercise to replace deadlifts in the first exercise? With gratitude 🙏💕

Sure thing Angel. Instead of deadlifts slightly hinge forward and lift and hold one leg slightly off of the floor. From there, curl your heel towards your butt and extend back out. Try for about 10 reps or using the one minute timer. Make sure to do both sides ;)
