Some of the video footage shot for the music video many many summers ago. Our John Deere 1948 Model A tractor and John Deere 24T Baler driven by a Wisconsin THD. Crappy field that year. Mostly grass instead of Hay but always a fun time bringing the field in.

Brings back fond memory's. As a kid I would bale with1954 jd 430 and t24 baler with the Wisconsin motor. always had spare sheer bolts in the tool box. my dad worked and at age 8 I would go mow/rake/bale during my summers off from school. best times of my life.

I appreciate the comment. Yeah this was made long ago but we still make hay every season with this equipment. You are right about the shear bolts. Of course if we were baling good hay instead of grass, it would probably go a lot smoother.

You did a great job with both videos. There fun to watch.

Wow, I'd love to have an old John Deere setup like that and a couple of hay fields to work in. I envy you for that. Thanks for posting. Mike.

I like your video. I have put it in my favorites for my sun. I'm going to purchase my uncles McCormick model 46 baler with a Wisconsin engine. I have a '48 model B that I mow with. I have one video I have posted and this summer I will post more. Thanks for sharing your video. It's fun to watch and run this old equipment.

I learned to bale with a 14T with a Wisconsin and a JD 50 in front of it. We still use a 24T with a #2 Kicker to make 4000 bales every year

we had one of these..1968??? or older...but member the wisconsin motor and hand crank it...some of the bales were so heavy the twine would break...

Yes, it's a 48A. I really couldnt guess on the volume per acre. Our field is a very poor producer as it has not been properly taken care of in a while. Also there are horses that share the field now and graze in some of the better producing areas. Last year we invested in lime and fertilizer but that didn't do much. Really need to get some manure down and turn the whole thing over.

There is a fertilizer called a Haymaker put 200 #S. to the acre on and that will be all the more Money you will want to spend and that will do the job. Trust me!

Im pretty used to it. I think it was a pretty decent design for the times. The tongue weight on that thing is substantial with that Wisconsin engine sitting on the end and the majority of these balers weren't set up like that

I've got a John Deere 24T that I'm going to be fixing up for next year, and I've still been trying to figure a couple things out. When you pulled up that lever after you were done, that kicks the unfinished bale out, right? Also, I was reading comments, you said you have been maintaining this for about 15 years? Just wondering where you go to get parts? Great video by the way! Love the older stuff!

John Deere has the parts. That's where I get mine

That thing he pulled up at the rear of the baler was the trip arm for the knotters. That adjacent spiky wheel turns as the bale is pushed through the bale chamber. The spikes poke into the bales as they push through the chamber and causes the spiky wheel to turn. As that wheel turns that arm tracks or walks in a V-groove pulley. Notice that at the bottom of that arm has a U-shaped cup shape. When the arm gets to the topmost reach it “falls” into the U-shaped cup which allows the arm to move forward which trips the knotters. Then the arm drops down to start tracking the length of the next bale. If you look closely on that arm there is an adjustable collar with a set screw to lock the collar into position on the arm. The further down on the arm that the collar is positioned, the shorter the bale length…and vice versa. This is how bale length is set. By tripping the knotters and by releasing the pressure in the bale chamber, the last 2 bales can be manually pulled out of the bale chamber. Tripping the knotters puts twine around whatever hay is left in front of the last fully tied bale in the chamber. This last bale is always a short bale-some times only a few inches long. You would trip the knotters only when done baling for a long period of time or at the end at the season. If the bales were not 100% dry, leaving them in the chamber would result in rusting of the chamber and the bales rotting. You would not do this at the end of each day. With no bales in the chamber, there is no resistance for forming new bales. It is this resistance that compresses the hay or straw into compacted baleS. The first 2-3 bales formed with an empty chamber are worthless bales. The are packed so loose that they just fall apart. When they emerge the twine is removed and the hay thrown in a windrow to be rebaled.

Its an A. The G's have side by side intake/exhaust stacks among some other things.

that grassy type hay doesn't pick up that good with straight tines, I changed mine over to the bent-end type and this seemed to help the matter

I wonder, does the Wisconsin 2-cylinder ever vapor lock on a hot day? I know that the V-4 motors do with the carb down in the valley like they are. Dumb design. Newer motors have the carb up higher -- good thing too! Great vid! I like the dancing tractor effect.

Looks like y'all need a better hay rake. If I would have raked winrows like that and missed all that hay my grandpa would have beat the piss out of me
@Green95Hoe
@Green95Hoe 13 лет назад
No the hand raking has nothing to do with the speed. Most of my field was grass that season and grass always dances off the tines.

do you think this would be a good bailer for a ford 8n?
@Wanous-hv7zo
@Wanous-hv7zo 5 лет назад
Ford 8 n is a shit tractor doesn't have any power or tourqe. I put a 24 t on my grandpa's 8n when the whindrow got tall killed the engine. Your 8n is just a garden tractor
@Wanous-hv7zo
@Wanous-hv7zo 5 лет назад
All your 8n is good for baleing hay is bringing empty racks. Guttless turd

Don't get me wrong, I'm I'm JD through an through, but don't diss the 8n or the jubilee, smooth running with plenty of power for its size

You tool. Its a 24T. I think perhaps after buying parts out of my original owners manual and maintaining the machine for the past 15 years I might know what model it is.
