This is an awesome breakdown of the las vegas stage! I never saw the Game Boy version of Street Fighter before and the master system version looks super weird. It's definitely got the vibe of it being a fever dream location xD Personally, I love The Music from super street fighter 2 and SFV Versions, as the turbo remix one that co developed with iron galaxy studios. Stage likewise, The Alpha 3 Max & SFV are my personal favorites! I can agree that High Roller Casino Is The Best Definitive Stage Of Balrog's Stage. glad that you mentioned the boxer claw and dicator international differences at the beginning there! the vegas stage is so pretty and it fits balrogs character as a greedy heavy hitter boxer
Excellent video. I really love the series. A few other of small bits: -NIN NIN Hall is indeed a reference for Akira Niishitani. Even at AKRIA, he still goes by NIN NIN. -When you were showing the HD Remix stage, there was something I've never noticed: By the CAPCOM sign on the left hand side, there's a sign that says SIRLIN CASTLE, a not so subtle (or humble) reference to David Sirlin, who worked on HD Remix and Super Gem Fighter HD Remix -There's one small Easter Egg hidden in Boxer's character theme in SFV: At the guitar breakdown, before it goes back to reprise the main theme, the music playing is actually the main them from his SFA3 theme, Unattainable Fists. Its a really cool Easter Egg. Birdie also has this as well. -Finally, this isn't a tidbit but a suggestion: Do you have the PC version of SFV? There is a camera mod that not only allows you to turn off the HUD but also go around the stage. If you don't, and need footage captured for a particular stage, I do have the PC version and that mod. I'd be happy to help capture that footage. Again really excellent video and I can't wait for the next one.

YESSS, I love these videos. I grew up with fighting games and paying so much detail to the backgrounds of stages and these breakdown videos are so thorough. Keep up the work!
I am no car expert either, but it has really bugged me in the past. They seem like UK vehicles and I know Vegas has a streak of showing off European vehicles. I did some quick Google searching and those cars look like Bentley T series cars from around the 1960s, but Bentley seems to have two headlights on each side of the front end. Possibly just artistic license to make the image easier to translate in 16-bit form. Edit:. I see starting the the Gameboy version and continuing in Super SF2, the cars have double headlights, really showing they are Bentleys.
I agree i think they were shooting for legally distinct versions of these cars. Which im sure is no coincidence in the SF@ HD remix version the Lambo is being covered up mostly by the crowd.
So happy to see another one of these, As a kid playing SF2 Special Championship Edition on Genesis, this was one of my favorite stages in the game. There's so much to take in, and I'd genuinely never seen anything like it before. It certainly made a strong impression, and Balrog became one of my favorite characters to play. So cool to see the evolution of the stage and concept!
Another wonderful vid! Having been to Vegas once back when I was high school, I need to go back again, but for only one purpose: to see Cirque du Soleil shows. Nothing else. My fav Balrog stage song is from Championship Edition on the Genesis! All the SF Alpha 3 songs use very similar instruments. Some of that game's stages are rather unique, especially Chun-Li's stage!
Hi BR, I actually liked this video before watching it because I knew it was going to be so well done, and it was. When I played the crummy commodore Amiga version of the world warrior of Street fighter 2 I always used to pick Balrog's stage. This was because it was the stage upon which the characters stood out the most. Having very poor eye sight I always had to find the best contrast I could and Balrog's stage was very good for this. Keep up the good work.
Guys in the front to me look like they represent pimps and gangsters, which is just very fitting for balrog, his lifestyle and the company that he maybe keeps based on his love of money and greed.

lil note: Balrog's character theme in SFV also has guitar riff from his theme Street Fighter Alpha 3, similar how Birdie's theme in SFV is mainly remix of his Alpha 2 theme with Alpha 3 riff at the end. Great vid btw
I used to think back in the day that I was weird as hell because I would just analyze fighting game stages and basically just pick them apart and see what I liked about them all. I'm glad I found your channel and I'm glad I found someone else that's obsessed with crazy stuff like this.
This is my all-time favorite fighting stage ever. Too bad Capcom refused to use the Golden Nugget brand anymore in later games, but this is an iconic casino in Las Vegas. This one represents Mike Bison clearly (yeah, I call him by his original name). My favorite version might be the one in Super, which looks more detailed, colorful and stylish. Not even the SFV one feel the same (despite trying to remake it, but looks like nothing like the Nugget anymore). And yes, also, this is my all-time favorite SF music ever, with the OG SF2 and Super version being my favorites.
Funny the stage and character both have in common is changing some names so Capcom doesnt get sued 😅I do think if you compare this stage to all stages in SF2 this stage has propbably the hypest energy amoung them all because it seems like not only are the people watching celebrating but the buildings itself too

I always thought the sign said Nin-Nin Ball like an advertisement for a special game the casino offers. Also, I'm really glad they brought back the regular blue coat and orange suit + cream coat guys from the original versions of Street Fighter 2 in the SFV version.
Great video! Minor correction: The Las Vegas strip is separate from downtown Vegas / Freemont where this stage takes place. The Las Vegas Strip is Las Vegas Boulevard spanning the area between the Circus Circus Casino and Mandalay Bay (historically the Hacienda).
I’ve always looked at the slight differences in each of the iterations of Balrog’s stage as details to show how he’s gone up as a fighter and a member of Shadaloo. The Golden Nugget slowly changing from a casino that displays Balrog to being more representative of Balrog in HD Remix and then finally being the ultimate Balrog paradise sponsored by Shadaloo in SFV. The stage theme in SFV also gives me a bit more of a melancholic feel than other arrangements of the music which, in my opinion, makes sense with the way his character is at that point still being legendary boxer but a bit troubled with his involvement with Ed.
This was great to me since Balrog is one of my favorite characters in fighting games because I even relate a bit with him on the aspect of trying to make your way in a world of people with the weirdest superpowers with just the strength of your fists, it's a lot like me trying to move forward as a fighting game competitor. The first time I went to Evo I made it a point to go to Fremont St. just to say: "I made it here" But especially the music has always been so motivating to me, back in the day I used to have a playlist of just different versions of the Balrog theme just to get pumped up before/during tourney matches; I want to share my favorite of them all to this day, it's an official release from Capcom but didn't appear on any game, since it was a special SF2 Tribute Album from the 90's where they asked a bunch of famed VGM composers to have their takes on the classic SF2 theme, and for Balrog's, it was done by none other than the legend Yuzo Koshiro (Actraiser, Streets of Rage), absolutely fitting. All the composers involved are legends on their own, so it's pretty cool to check other stuff they've done and see how they relate to their version of the classic SF2 themes (i.e. the composer of the Ryu theme is the same for Daytona USA, you'll realize instantly after 5 seconds in xD)
Great videos! My only suggestion... when discussing the character's theme songs, it'd be nice if you could drop in specific examples of the beats you're referencing instead of just describing them. If it's not possible due to time constraints, copyright issues, etc. I'd just leave those parts out
14:44 this stage on the PS2 is the exception, as in the Alpha Anthology, you can randomly hear the 3DO version of Balrog's original theme in the background

Great video with so much in depth detail. I still prefer the champion edition stage over the newer once. And the whole thing about keeping the download size of the game down seems like bs too me, I mean how much extra space could we possible be talking about lol

The Alpha 3 Max version has always been my favorite, maybe it's bias because Alpha 3 Max was the first Street Fighter Gam I played but I lve how colorful and vibrant it is.

Boxer, or "Balrog", will always be Mike Bison to me. Being a huge Tyson fan growing up and M. Bison's blatant similarity to Mike Tyson in appearance only cemented that for me.
Weird how they had 'Golden Nugget' during the arcade days. They didn't change Golden Nugget + others until after HDR, that's weird if they want to avoid 'Copyright' after 10-15 years into the history of Balrog's stage..
