As a musician, once you get a lot of their songs under your belt, the best thing about them will become clear. As good as they are chops-wise, they just write really great songs, and they play so well as a unit that they can pull off a ton of complexity and density of composition (without muddiness). Live they are crazy fun and my favorite band!
They faced a crucial decision around the time of their last album: Whether to keep pushing the boundaries and experimenting, or to stick with what had worked so far. They had the guts to choose the former. A lot of people who are new to them before are not going to "get" it right away. But in the end, this is going to work out for them because great music and great musicianship will eventually carry the day.
Earlier this morning was when it came together as a song for me. Six days, three to six listens per day. This isn't unusual, at least for me with Band-Maid. They can be a lot to take in. Then there are songs like "Bestie" where it's very accessible as a song but it took about the same time for me to appreciate how well put-together it is and how much musical depth it actually has.
Another good reaction. I was on the fence about this one. I’ve listened to it at least 6 times and now I really enjoy it. There’s a lot going on with the instruments but, should we be surprised.
Nice reaction ! You should watch the their instrumental videos. From Now On, Onset, Without Holding Back are must-sees. These three songs have three very distinct faces.
😊Kanami's solos are written as part of the songs and are all very different. She never adds more to them than the songs require. Band-Maid are truly an ensemble and perform as if they share a single ego.
